Could we see your portfolio? Bootcamp isn't enough. A killer portfolio that proves that you can do the work will afford you the opportunity. Yes, the market is saturated and the economy is down. But that will change and there is and will be a need for QUALIFIED designers. Go hard on that portfolio.
I took it down, it wasn't relevant to what I'm looking for now. Gotta revamp it. Thanks for watching!
@@jansleyreal can I use ux/ui design to make a prototype of an app / website / program I want a company to buy ? I am not trying to spend my life looking at a computer to code
Your insights are truly appreciated. They've offered me a fresh perspective to ponder upon. Thank you for sharing your valuable experience.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing!!! It is feeling like no matter what your portfolio looks like, or how strong your UX or UI skills are, without a lot of related work experience or a referral, it’s impossible to get an interview for a low paying internship.
There are still people trying to get into it, so it’s important that we’re transparent about what that actually looks like!
So true, you have to really want it, and put the work in! Thanks for stopping by :)
This was so nice of you to give out your thoughts on it. Thanks a lot.❤
My pleasure Janet 😊
Our journey has been the same. I swear I start thinking something, and then you release a video about it.
I’m not done trying, but I am done trying so hard for something that is beginning to feel like spotting a unicorn. 🦄
Thanks J!
That's funny how similar the journey is! Keep working at it my man, you got this!
Found you a week ago and I've been binging all of your videos! I appreciate you sharing your journey, And the realism of it. I'm a software engineer, not really trying to break into the UX industry. but I still really like hearing your perspective
Thanks for stopping by Daniel, that's cool to hear someone in a different industry finds this interesting!
Hey Daniel, Im im between these two careers. Could you recommend a youtube channel about software engineering?
This was very informative! Thank you for your input, I’ll be checking out more of your videos. Currently, taking the google ux design course.
Thanks for saying that! Have fun with the course!
thankyou so much for your honest advice.. it really helped a lot. can you share more about ur learnings and how you tried to implement the steps to reach till here..
They definitely do resonate. Can't wait for you to land your first Job/Gig
Thank you Oba, I appreciate that!
Amazing insight brother. 💯I think one major reason also for why profiles gets rejected is because it is filled with saturated case studies e-commerce, OTT, Dashboard, travel app, etc etc. Maybe we should try something really different, like making something for potters not e-commerce, just giving an example. Recruiters are definitely done scrolling through these kinda common topics. Like sometimes I imagine out of no where a recruiter comes across a project involving something like an app for garbage pickers, that case study will definitely be attention grabbing.
Yep that's a really good point actually! A lot of the case studies are starting to look like carbon copies of each other.
I have been a UX Designer for more than 20 years. You give some great advice.
I appreciate that Melinda!
In the last two years, I've been learning and working hard in the UX design field. Because I live in a rural area, I can only handle freelance or remote job, which is quite challenging for me. However, I do have a good client, which is obviously not a return on my difficulties. You may be wondering why I am still sticking on UX, and the answer is simple: I enjoy it.
You can participate if you are really driven and dedicated to UX, but I wouldn't advise you to pursue a career in UX if you are not!
Exactly, if you enjoy it, definitely stick with it!
I just got a job as a ui ux designer at a start-up and damn I'm burning out pretty quickly also there are a lot of things I thought I knew oh boy was I wrong 🤭🙈
As a motion designer who specialises in ap and ui motion i've been using more and more Figma. While I don't want to be a ux designer I think having some of the tool will really come in handy.
Woah what is your job? Sounds interesting
@@artualpseu3691 When it comes to figma I make animated prototypes of apps so they can show customers and investors before the app launches or to get funding :)
bro already quitted he's journey to become UX design.😂 check he's recent video.
A year and a half without being hired is rough, I’m sorry to hear that. I’m learning UX now and contemplating a career change but it’s difficult when you hear discouraging stories. Are you even being interviewed? or is it so difficult that you don’t even get a call or email back?
To be fair, I'm carving my own path now, so I'm not even applying for jobs or trying to get hired. But when I was actively trying, yes I got recruiters reaching out, and even a few interviews set up. You just have to be incredibly persistent. Appreciate you watching Dan!
The market is overly saturated in UXers, and going to a boot camp won’t be enough to get your toe in the door.
What I can say is because UX covers an overwhelming array of disciplines, it would be good for you to evaluate your skills and see where in your previous experience did you interact with users, or perhaps you were hired to redesign a website, or maybe you helped in CX related to sales. There is so much you can cover, your case studies would need technical expertise to show off your knowledge in stakeholder management, user flows, user interviews or stakeholder interviews, wireframes and high fidelity design flows.
if anything, your case study should have a summarized detail of your challenges, goals, achievements and future outcomes.
also your resume needs to be prepared to show your impact on projects, speaking of metrics or achievements.
lasty your portfolio. all you need a 3 glod use case studies: 1) Usability testing or some form of research with insights. 2) technical work and 3) a mix of end to end UX processes.
These are solid insights, I appreciate you sharing this!
Very crystal clear explanation 👌
Thank you, glad you liked it 🙂
Thank you for this! I am just starting on my own journey with UX/UI/Graphic Design. I come from a healthcare background but need something more creative that tickles all the right spots in my brain. Given the saturation of the job market, though, I am taking it more into the realm of a new hobby. It will give me the time to play with it all then transition into freelancing later.
Congrats on starting your journey! I think your strategy is a very healthy way to learn it. No need to 'hustle' your way to learning it
@@jansleyreal Exactly. I want to take my time and enjoy the process.
I am going to describe to you
Thanks for scaring away the competition btw XD
Haha I had a feeling I would do that in the beginning. Thanks for subscribing :)
AM in the end of AI engineering and for me trying to understand these concepts are difficult but i have been always fascinated about ui ux. am at confusing state what to do .is it worth it? atleast to try a freelancing at the end?
Freelancing with UX/UI will most commonly steer you to web design.
1 month into a boot camp and I love UXUI. I wish I had know about this years ago. I love design, problem solving, and working with others. I took the Udemy course first and loved it. Frustrating at times, but figuring things out and learning from mistakes is enjoyable and actually fulfilling.
Thanks for sharing this! Sounds like you found your calling, hope you find an awesome job! :)
@@jansleyreal thanks! I actually look forward to see where this takes me. Even if it’s not specifically UXUI. I love the tech-design field
Can I get you to review my persona & script template on your channel?
I hold one bachelor in cs with a focus in design, one bachelor in nursing and some social sciences. I cant get into the field no matter how hard I try. Now I started on a master in business from a top10 school and suddenly people want to hire me as a product manager instead.... Impossible
Just my 2 cents, but PM is probably perceived as a less 'sexy' role, so it's a smaller pool of people looking for jobs, especially if you're getting an MBA. The design market is flooded with uneducated people.
Me ajudou muito!
I’m glad it helped you!
Do you happen to have recommendations on udemy where the courses incorporates projects?
Unfortunately, I don't have any specific Udemy course recommendations. I feel like most course will advertise if they incorporate a project.
Is it in general or country/location matters? Maybe its different depend to where you live or its very difficult wherever you are? Btw, im new on this field and trying to learn on google coursera. Can you give me some advice 😅
I think it’s a difficult industry to get into no matter where you are haha. My advice is do as much project work as possible to build up your portfolio
@@jansleyreal Thank you very much for your response ♥️♥️
People are saying it’s very competitive so a certificate isn’t going to get your food in the door. I am trying to pivot my marketing career and have almost 10 years of marketing experience, most recently in digital marketing. Would that at least help me stand out or should I pursue another specialization?
Marketing will definitely serve you well here. Really the main thing is to have relevant project work, and to be able to communicate that on your portfolio.
No, it's not worth it. If I were starting over I would be looking at a AI discipline that appealed to me. 700 people applying for one job. Its cooked.
AI definitely not a bad way to go
Isnt AI similarly in demand what makes you say AI is more sensible, give me stats
Im doing my bachelor's and I want to do higher studies in ux UI design before getting a job. Which is the best country to do masters in ux UI design??
You don’t need a graduate degree to get into UX design. No sense in getting more student loan debt if you don’t need to. Bachelor’s is more than enough 👍
Just out of curiosity? So, there are absolutely no programming skills required when becoming a UX designer? I ask because I am a self-taught frontend web developer, so I have skills in CSS3, HTML5, Bootstrap, SASS & JavaScript with React. These are skills which are implemented on a website and what the client or the user would see on their computer. I mentioned this because since I enjoy creating friendly using experience by programming. Are there jobs which require someone to have both UX Design as well as programming skills like web developer? So far, I haven't seen anything online figured I ask since this is your specialty, thank you.
Yes there are plenty of UX jobs that prefer knowledge in coding languages. I've seen quite a few of them. You won't be doing actual coding though. I think they just want you to understand it so you can communicate with devs
@@jansleyreal Thanks for getting back to me. I guess my next step would be to learn of these type of job titles if any exist, I appreciate the knowledge.
There’s a job specifically for that called UX engineer
@@stephanieliu8320 Thank-You. I just know the very generic names like web dev, backend, devOps. etc etc.
@@DevlogBillyeah these for sure, UX engineer is someone who knows both front end and UX design
Hi i was thinking about entering this field i alwayes wanted to be in a unique tech field what do yoi think should i persue ?
Whatever interests you the most. You can make money with anything given enough time and persistence
great
Thank you!
your story has been helpful in keeping me away from this career path. I'm better off trying to become youtube famous than a rank and file UX designer lol.
I think it really just depends on where your interests and skills lie, and figuring out what's actually worth chasing after. Happy I could maybe give a little clarity though haha
I had five years of experience and just got laid off. It has been almost 4 months I couldn't land on a job. Every job I applied there are about 1000+ applicants. The market is crazy right now. Think carefully before you switch to this field.
1:34-3:26, All these "obstacles" for basically a $50k salary a year sounds kinda just like rudamentary beginers grind and not like negatives to the field... My personal opinion.
Weird how ux design pays more than graphic design.
I think UX design typically drives more business revenue than graphic design.
UX is very different from graphic design. A large part of UX is the ability to do user research to inform your design choices. You also need to test your designs with users and make improvements. Then you need to prove your designs have moved the business closer to their goals, whatever those may be. There is also the additional challenge of making sure your designs can be built within the technical constraints provided by the development team. All along making sure your designs fit the UI patterns and interaction of the system you are designing. I know some UX Designers that do not even do vehement visual design of the UI. All they do is interaction design. It has very little to do with graphic design.
there is no work.
Plenty of work, but very competitive :)
Boss : Anon you are our new UX designer
Me : What?!
Boss : I signed you up for classes
Me *googling the fuck UX designer does
