@*_No Videos_* I think I may have overthought and read too much into what you said, I apologize. Dogs are dogs, agreed. If you're interested, I misinterpreted what you were saying as that it's not likely or common to train dogs to the level where behavioral errors don't happen, where they don't deviate from their job, get distracted or do something unnecessarily as seen in this video.
These dogs have usually poor obedience. They stay in kennels all the time except when working and they're speciliazed in one specific task. It's a big misconception that military dogs are highly trained. They're expert in one task only. PSA and Shutzhund dogs are highly trained. The proof of what I said is in this video actually.
I went to a police dog open house in Toronto a few years ago. They did the same thing with the thief and the dog take down. Except it was a woman pushing an old fashioned baby carriage. When the "thief" stole her purse, the woman lifted up the top of the carriage and a German shepherd came flying out and chased the guy down. Then the women grabbed back her purse and smacked the guy in the head with it. This must be a staple at police dog shows.
Idk why but that is the most hilarious scenario ive ever heard. Imagine someone actually trying to rob a woman and she just has a spring loaded German shepherd in her BABY CARRIAGE
Well-trained pups being pups makes this endearing. I'm sure without the distraction of the crowd, they do just their work without a hitch. Atta' boys and girls!
our dog trainer was training a belgian malinois to be a drug sniffing dog but she suffered a knee injury and couldn't become a sniffing dog; he gave her to us because he couldn't have her and she's the sweetest even if she had to cut short her career
We have 2 mals. On rainy days I would do scent work with them. I learned my lesson not to hide the scents (treats) near my cookbooks they would go back months later scatching and biting still smelling the treats.
I AGREE, I DON'T SPEAK WELL ENGLISH, FOR ME THESE DOGS ARE NOT MADE FOR A CIRCUS SHOW WHAT IS GOOD IS TO SHOW US IS WE ( HUMANS WERE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND ) THAT DOGS, AS WE CAN SEE, ARE ALSO ANIMALS WITH OTHERS CAPACITIES AND THAT IS UNNECESSERY TO MAKE A COMPETITION EACH ONE IS DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER ONE AND THEY ARE OUR BROTHERS, FRIENDS AND LIVE IN THE SAME WORLD WITH US SIMPLY...
For service dogs: I agree they probably should have been to a few places with crowds before being considered professional. For police dogs though: Belgian Malinoi (or however you spell it sorry) are not expected to be calm and collected for everything. They are expected to focus when the time is right but even still the time to focus is right before action. So for them it’s less of an issue
There is nothing that makes one feel more patriotic, even if that is not necessarily your own military, then watching these dogs go to work for their country and enjoying every minute of it and now and then just deciding to do it their way!
My late father was a RAF Dog handler in the late 50s early 60s and every time I see this team it reminds me of him and my first pet who was a RAF police dog
The irony in this is that not a single one of these dogs would win at Crufts as they have straight and sturdy backs. Which, you know. Is needed to actually do anything.
Yeah, I had a working type German Shepherd from a herding bloodline. Looked nothing like a show GSD or even a guard type. Look up what the original German Shepherds looked like and that would be him. Nice straight back but man could that dog lope, I never once saw him run but he was still one of the fastest dogs I have ever had.
galax A 'pedigree' is just a generational record of a bloodline. A reputable breeder will use this to breed in qualities they want and/or remove problems they don't. GSD's in shows can be trained to do anything, they are just GSD's that happen to be in a dog show. Cheer up buddy.
We just had Veteran's Day to honor our United States military service members, past and present. The RAF dog team is such a beautiful display of all that's right and noble in our military and civilian service personnel and their devoted animals who risk their lives.
There was a perfect hole for that one bottle in the basket. So they planned that little distraction/complication to show how smart good boi Gusty is :)
These demonstrations are so important to show that police and military dogs are just regular dogs, they just have a job. Great way to show children that these aren't scary. They just need space when they are working.

They need a lot more training tbh. In my opinion if they do this on the streets they shouldn't really be working. The focus is slightly terrible for a working dog.
Every dog has something special they can do. Not all dogs can do the same tricks some of them are specialist in there own field and we are lucky to have them in our time of need

What breed is the dog?
You can honestly tell the dogs genuinely enjoy working with their humans.
I love that at the end of the day even the most elite trained dogs are still just dogs.
Though these dogs do a very important job and are very well trained, I would hardly call them “the most elite trained dogs”
Yup, they are just trained dogs, they're far away from "elite trained"
