I think the reason Shin enjoys fighting is because he doesn't have to think about the past or future, just the present. In an odd way, while combat is chaotic and unpredictable, he probably fills in control while in it. That is just my theory.

      Sounds right to me.

Not really a theory, this theme is also heavily explored in American works like The Hurt Locker and SEAL Team. A lot of soldiers would rather be sent back to the battlefield against an obvious enemy they can point and shoot at instead of being at home forced to confront their own personal problems with their friends, families, and mental states.

You ladies missed it a few episodes ago, Frederica has a special ability, she can see glimpses of the present and past. That's why she knew a lot about shin when they first met. As for Shin, the reason he's smiling is because he's thrilled to be on the battlefield, it's the only place he feels like home...

Yesss we know! We film ahead/in batches so clarifications aren’t always brought up to each other right away. Thank you though 🥺 -Sam

How many episodes do you typically try to film ahead for any given show? Im just curious as to how many episodes will it take for what someone might say in the comments to be mentioned in a video. @TheReactPack

It's a crime how so few people know about this show. At least that's the feeling I get. The storytelling is only surpassed by the outstanding OST from Sawano. My favourite show of all time and I'm glad you're all enjoying it so much as well!

Im sure youve been told, but Regina means queen, so Bloody Regina means Bloody Queen. Lena has built quite the reputation since the end of part 1.

My thoughts on Lena's uncle are very similar to my thoughts about Annette. They both know that what the Republic is doing is wrong but they feel powerless against the system so they relegated themselves to being bystanders. The difference is that Annette was given an opportunity by Lena to help Spearhead so she finally did. Uncle Jerome's "I'll buy you some time" is really all he could do so when the opportunity presented himself, he took it. (It's probably also his way of atoning for becoming a bystander)

I think he doesn’t enjoy fighting; he sees the battlefield as a place to die. We see that Shin doesn’t think about the future-he firmly believes there is no future for people like him. Another reason is the expectation from his comrades to carry on their will until his final journey, which burdens him. Everyone relies on Shin, but Shin has no one to carry his burden. he just want to end his suffering, n feel excited when he knows he about to die , yes suicidal ideation. He's selfish, he want everyone to live, but its ok for him to die

To comment on what you said about Shin "loves fighting" isnt true. At least not in the truest sense of the word. All Shin KNOWS is fighting. Its been his whole life up to that point, and within that period, he's had to not only execute his friends to prevent them from falling to the legion, but carrying the emotional weight all that loss that has fallen on him for those 5+ years. You spend your life in that world for so long ESPECIALLY when youre still at the age where youre impressionable, the toll that takes on your mind is ASTRONOMICAL. And yes.. throughout this and the prior arcs of the show, Shin's ultimate goal was to be killed in battle. He sees it as something close to his atonement for what he sees as his sins and failures on the battlefield. He believes that everyone else are the ones who should have had a peaceful future while he alone should bare the weight of the war. Hes feeling the full fury of survivor's guilt at its max level, and to some degree he WANTS it to consume him. He's not resisting falling into madness and despair. He is at his very core, broken. He enjoys fighting not because of the "thrill of the fight" but because its a distraction from the voices of the legion, the crushing guilt of his shortcomings, and generally the pain of mourning those he lost. He feels genuinely at peace knowing at any minute, he could be killed and released from that suffering.

You misunderstand General Karlstahl. He was a fanatical idealist even more so than Lena is. That changed when his country hows ideals he embodied and embraced abandoned this ideals and used a giant percentage of their population as slaves. It broke, his will, hus mindset, his worldview. The sacred country that he believed in had betrayed his ideals. And so he turned from a fanatical idealist(like Lena) into a deeply broken nihilist. His worldview changed into: [This country has destroyed my ideals, this countrys people have abandoned my ideals. Their destruction and death through the legion is a fitting punishment.] That is the reason he did not try to stop the Republic he wants it to burn.
Another thing that you missed is the fact that Karlstahls military boots are old and dirty meaning before he became a general he truly fought at the front and now at the very end of the Republic he leafes fir the front once again wuth nothing than a simple assault rifle.

A better man would not have been broken and would have used all power available to him. A better man would see when a chance is presented to right his wrongs. A better man could have contributed more than a symbolic gesture of his final day.

@@bthsr7113 All you say is simply arrogant. Its easy expecially in modern day and age with the internet to just sit in your room and speak high and mighty. The reality would be that if you were confronted with General Karlstahls situation with the same way of thinking than Karlstahl you would act exactly the same.(and before you say you would not act like him, well if not than your comment is meanigless) He is neither ment to be a good person nor a bad one. He represents what Lena could have become would her situation be slightly diffrent. Karlstahl shows us and even himself realises that Lena during episode 16 is what he once was. Fanatical idealistic, with an iron will to defend that ideals. But even more than that Lena has combined pragmatismus with this idealism. She accepted the use and sacrafice of the Eighty six as necessary to survival. In contrast to that Karlstahl accepted the use and sacrafice of the Eighty six because he wants the Republic to die. He wants retribution for the death of his ideals and the Eighty six are simply cought up in it.

As a General he has real power to fight the status quo of the military committing horrific atrocities. His Niece is a rising star who can help rally support, and even when demoted, she managed to gather a cadre of fellow officers who shared her views or at least had the good sense to heed her warnings. Instead of wandering off with a Battle Rifle, he could have been using his authority to remove obstacles to Lena's strategy, or even cosign on her orders, for the emergency defense after the Gran Mur was breached.
Then there are the people who never just gave up to be active participants in what San Magnolia is doing. Even if he didn't think he could do anything, walking away would have been better than to be actively involved in the oversight of Spearhead being served to the Legion on a plate.

On this first offensive Legion killed MILIONS of alba, not even funny how many they killed...
The 86 protected some major areas but only protected assets so that the republic had a fighting chance. They abandoned 90% of the alba to their deaths; you can see this by the fact that in the next episode the only area left is the first district, the rest is fucking gone, at the end, only 1 million alba survived, and in the second major attack of the legion, only 300,000 alba were able to escape the republic because of the republic elites that wanted another minority to serve as their slaves, the other type of alba. But little did they know the federacy only made the effort to recue the people of the republic because they needed more soldiers to fight against the legion so... at the end, my theory is that the alba of the republic will literally become the 86 of the federacy.
