Here's why you're seeing purple street lights around the Charlotte area

- About a year ago, people started seeing purple street lights pop up all over the Triad. Now, more than a year later, we are still seeing some of these purple lights.
WFMY News 2 reached out to Duke Energy to get an update on the efforts to repair the lights.
Duke Energy Spokesperson, Jeff Brooks, told WFMY the lights are purple because the laminate put on the light to make it white, has worn off. It’s a factory malfunction but they aren’t dangerous.

UPDATE:. 3 YEARS LATER since first news reports and even more are showing up and they have not been replaced. Please do some REAL investigative reporting.

The mercury vapor lights are going to be deadly later in my opinion. They emit UV light, but look greenish or off-white and like a e-i-e-i-o light. Look at where they are placed in your city. If drones are recruited to streets near them, how many ways will you have to leave your city in chemical gas? Have you noticed where the lights are that are orange for only a short time and spend a lot of time greenish? What other frequencies are being put out? Are they some kind of radio signal for drones? Note that visible light can be eclipsed and that bluer and UV light and higher scatter very well. You can see the bluer light above a football or baseball field without seeing the lights, right? Well, higher spectrum light is going to be seen whether there are trees blocking or not. That is what they want to do! Look at them and plot them in your city. Look for green and anything that is bluer or green on camera but not green visually. If there is chemical gas, they don't need street and building lights to block you if you are walking out because you won't get very far!!!!

@@SwitchedDreams The distribution of lights like mercury vapor lights, the metal halide lights (I think) that are at least transiently green and violet and keep cycling if they don't stay that way, and the purple streetlights in places that I have seen seem to be geared towards being on evacuation routes (even through grass to another main road or around other traffic that might stall for some reason). Why is being in a car so important vs walking out? Gas? I don't know, and I am not sure what it is that people might all of a sudden want to leave in the middle of the night for, but it should concern everyone.
