Its legit. The red and green LED were invented in the late 50s, early 60s. The blue led was invented in 1972 but was barely visible. The first real blue LED was finally invented in 1996. The tech of blue leds continued to evolve and then eventually allowed for the creation of the white LED in the early 2000s. This is why White LEDs exploded in commercial and home applications in the last 15 years. White LEDs are blue LEDs, covered in phosphorus. The phosphor changes the wave length. These lights have defect where the phosphor is burning up, changing the wavelength from white back to blue.

I’ve seen these bulbs in Iowa Rest Stops. Love the color as it is easier to sleep under this light than bright lights at night. And wonder if it reduces swaums of flying insects? Or repells them?

It's done all the time. Led flashlights don't typically emit white light from the actual diode. Blue LEDs are incredibly cheap to buy at higher power levels, then they apply a yellow phosphor coating. When the photons hit the phosphor coating, the energy from the collision emit a range of yellow spectrum photons. The mixture of blue photons that pass through with the newly emitted yellow, combine to give a cool white color. If you disassemble an led flash light and look at the led, it will have this yellow looking layer on it, scratch it off and the flashlight will undoubtedly be blue.

In junction city ks they were some purple lights and they had to replace them to the new led lights.
