I took delivery of my 992 C4S Oct 15, and have done 6,200 miles on it. Winter tires allow superb driving in snow and ice, and the wet mode actually does what they say it will do. In wet mode, it also transfers some of the rear wheel power to the front, closes the front flaps, adjusts the wing accordingly, lowers the RPM, and makes for a much safer car in the wet. I have rear steering, front lift, 360 camera, steering plus, colored belts, tach and sport Chrono. Basically, I’ve done everything to this that I could throw at it, and it just teases me for more. The standard brakes are phenomenal. I could go on, but this is really quite the car. And good review, Pete. BTW, putting the car in Sport Mode takes the car out of start/stop function and auto turns on sport exhaust. You could go to Indiv Mode and make those changes automatically, but I’m just happy being where I’m at with this at this time.

I’ve been driving Porsches for 40+ years and all have been manuals. I’m now 74 years old, have extensive racing experience but, if I stay with 911, my next one will be a PDK. Just beginning to think of physical issues as I age further. However, I’m seriously considering a GT4.........even less than a 911 2S and it’s a GT car. It definitely a very hard decision. I’ll decide next year when the PDK GT4 becomes available. Love your channel!

Unless you need/want a manual, the base is the best. I have had both a base and a 2S 992, and the 2S is a beast but the base just feels more balanced. The S has TON of torque and it can handle it but it feels like too much. I wish you could get the manual on the base, thats the only reason to get an S, IMHO.

The drive for constant progress really is silly these days. I get why Porsche have to do it, but 110K for a ‘sports car’ is crazy. This thing offers supercar performance and quite frankly, it doesn’t need to. Cars need to be lighter, simpler, and cheaper with less tech.

The 991.2 Carrera T would probably be the sweet spot for me personally (can't wait for the 992 version of the T). I guess that's why the 911 sells so well - it can be a pure sports car (Carrera T), a great all-round daily sports car (Carrera S/Turbo S) or a complete track-weapon (GT3 & GT3RS). Great video as usual Pete!

Pete, an update on the S6 I 'purchased'...left a 3g deposit, was gonna collect next day, though a strange thing happened as I was leaving the dealer. Made me book an AA Comprehensive check on the car, thank God I did. Result, it's got 'Red Flags' ! Problems, In other words, AA said don't buy and it's only 11 months old ! '149 point Audi Check' ???? HPI clear as well. I was nearly screwed, now I've just got to try and get my money back. I don't want this crap now to deal with, as I'm an old guy...My Lesson Learned, Get an AA Comprehensive Check, they are Brilliant !!!

I have a 997.2 and I feel like it holds its value well. But the new Porsches will not hold their value as a percentage of purchase price. If in the USA, 997s are 30-50,K and 991s are 40-60K used (40,000 miles say), then sure 992s will settle in at between 50-70K second hand in 3 years. They are worth more, but also not as DIY friendly. That aspect will quickly knock value off as they run out of warranty. 997s are not scary to own secondhand, but each generation ties you more and more to the dealer and then high end mechanics. Not fun. There are options, like would you drop 70K on a new C8 Corvette with warranty, or the same money on a out of warranty 992 that will cost 5K a year to maintain...and lose more and more value. I'd be torn if I didn't already have a 997, I tend to keep cars forever like my 91 BMW M5. But The market will dictate the "hold it's value" reputation of 911s, and I think they are turning in to Audi style depreciation vehicles lately.

    Hi Ped
Another great video, and welcome back to the super star PUPS🥰🥰🥰 As a very fortunate owner of 991
(Gen1) Carrera 4 S Cabrio, I find the comparison very interesting. I have always maintained the Carrera is
most useable as a daily driver, great build and reliability so far! My pet hate is the dash, unable to view the
Two outer dials. Price would be an issue on the 992, but for half the price one could find a 991 at half
    the price.

A really good review, as always.
A boggo 12 month old 992 Carrera 2, manual box (if only they did one), guards red, nice wheels, sports exhaust and Android Auto would be really compelling as far as I'm concerned. All the power you need for UK and Euro roads and without the nonsense add ons that just aren't necessary in a car meant for driving.
As for the dog test, I was parked on the aire Gevrey Chambertin on the A31 in France a few years back, when an elderly couple in a 993 pulled up next to us. Out they got and then out of the back seats got an Irish Setter and a Yorkshire Terrier! Happy as pigs in muck they seemed.

Hey Sir. Not just another great and nicely edited review, but a superb Porsche review. Entry level now up'd to £100k is justified because is the greatest marque out there with the best combo of build and performance splashed in abundance with reliability in the sports car field. I do think the rear shape takes a little time to fall in love with, but the basic 'Porsche 911' dna is still there from 67 although vastly improved from 991 generation on. For me it could only be a 997GT3RS. I would love to have a drive in the 992 just to see how so very different the 911 is now to my aircooled 84 Carrera 32. I owned a 997 Carrera 2 S drop top. Best car I have ever owned and driven by a long way (compared to an Aston Martin, BMWs, AMG Mercs and a Macan and Cayenne) and I wish I had not sold it. As you say PP it is not until you drive a 911 that you appreciate how good they are but I also share your concern about the increasing cost of buying one. My 997 cost me late £60s to buy in 2011 and I sold it two years later for late £50's with around 15k miles on the clock. I would love to have the 992 but the inconvenient truth is I would have to spend nearly double the 997 and cannot afford one...and I do not think it is worth double the money.

Need to start planning for my change as it’s 2 years old this May, Some fringe options, but main contenders 992 C2S or AM Vantage. Hi Mark. First world problems indeed but very cool. If I was using it everyday then I'd probably go 992, less frequent use then it would be the Vantage...should a mega car. I will be doing a full video of the house when it's finished later this month 👍

The 992 Turbo S will be a time machine! Great video as usual. I’d be interested in the comparison between the C2S and C4S, to understand what +ves (or -ves) 4WD brings to the party. Oh by the way, £109,000 can be seen as a bargain, as the same car here in Singapore would be well over £350,000! Ouch!

Great review of the new car on roads I know. I tested the 992 but found the electronics confusing and the car slightly too wide for UK roads. I know I am just getting old and set in my ways! I think I'll stick to my older 997 which you commented on in your first Goodwood meet and greet over a year ago.

Hi..... Further to my comments when you reviewed the Audi R8.....lack of storage, luggage space etc I am MIGHTILY impressed by your review and presentation of the new Carrera S as it would most definitely be a practical car to use as a daily driver aswell as we could use it for weekends away with our dog accompanying us on the back seat. Plus you can still have your fun with it aswell.
Price is a bit steep as you mentioned and when I was playing on Porsche car configurator I managed to spec my "dream" Carrera at £127k! Ouch!.. carbon ceramic brakes I guess and some other things not essential but even basics like parking sensors you got to pay extra for.... bit of a cheek.
Not looking to swap our M4 Comp just at the mo but might wait a while and see if we can find a nicely specced 2nd hand car.
Our aim would be to keep the car long term and I THINK Carrera just might be it.
Thanks for the review and I have subscribed if that helps you at all?
    Regards
    Roger

Great review, once again! Well done! I now have a Carrera 4 on order, it'll be my workhorse though-out the year. I drive a lot on the Alps and on German Autobahns, and I think this is the perfect weapon for the purpose. I went quite light on the options and only chose the most practical ones, like adaptive cruise control, Bose, seat heating and cooling, full electric seats, comfort access and then some small options on top of these. The car will be GT silver on the outside, and black on the inside, and comes with silver window surround strips. I wanted a very classy and low-key car, and I think I got it right. Let's see.

All said & done Peter that’s a very fair review, I agree 💯% with your criticisms regarding the outer two gauges, they’re not as visually accessible as I would like. Yes there’s a few minor things that could be criticised but overall I think Porsche has finally created one of the best 911’s. Some of the “add ons” e.g., 18 way electric seats I wouldn’t be putting those on my list, but overall a nicely spec’d car. At £100k+ it’s not an easily affordable price for some but for Porsche devotees, those loyal to the brand it won’t be an issue. For me I would be looking at a well documented, cared for 997.2 if I was to go down the 911 route. Currently I’m enjoying my 981 Cayman & thinking of ways of scraping up enough for a 718 GT4 Spyder, probably its going to be 2020 as the allocations for this year are done, although there’s sure to be a few “flippers” available at £10 - £15 K above the factory prices. All comes to those who wait (I hope).
Thanks for sharing, I could have watched another half hour.

I have a 992 Cabriolet - it's fantastic. remember the C2S is only an entry level car temporarily, there will be a "standard" Carrera at some point. I have seen poor fuel consumption, but I've also achieved over 30 sort can be frugal if driven gently - although I'd sooner use more fuel and drive it more aggressively! Great review as always and yes, the outer dials being hidden from the drivers seat is irritating but offset by all the positive attributes of the car.

Even that will have nigh on 400 BNP, what I'm finding interesting is that the 718 GT4 is about to get PDF mated to that new 414bhp engine which will destroy the Carrera and maybe even the S. this will be a first for Porsche so looking forward to your review and thought on this big first 👍🏻

The rear wing is to make the car go faster. Bernoulli's principle principle predicts that the decrease in pressure is associated with an increase in speed, i.e. that as the air passes over the wing it speeds up and moves faster than it was moving when it left the demonstrator's mouth. That car was brilliant in terms of its handling with the mid engined layout and, to be honest better than the 997 in that respect. But funnily enough, as highlighted by Ped, it was the extra +2 seats that persuaded me to go for the 997.

Downgrade in styling from 991.2; heavier; fussy touchscreen is a negative; can't shift with the "razor" when the paddles are awkward to use at high steering lock; engine and suspension will be even better than before (somehow they can do that, amazing). Hmmm..well Peter, here is an interesting fact. Not far from where I live, a man bought a new 911 in 1980 but I am not sure which model yet he stunned the road by doing it. He bought another one (Carrera 2S) in March 2000 and I saw him out in that this very afternoon. Those are his only cars and his daily drivers. The current one is just on 80,000 miles going by the MOT history and has covered 3/5000 miles per year. That tells us something...a big cheque written but only twice in nearly 40 years. I can see him preparing to collect a new 911 next March and your test car could be his choice. It is on my list but not new..a well spec’d Carrera 4S maybe but then on Sunday I am off to VSCC Prescott with my old friend Adam and he just might have a newish 911 Cabriolet because his wife has been planning it for a while...we shall see! Otherwise we have to put up with his Aston Martin Rapide S or go cheap in the SL...cars...always an addiction! A good video Pete...roll on to the next one!!😎😎😎😎

Love the Turbo S but a well-spec'd 4S is far more road biased. There are some excellent tuners around to heighten track enjoyment, if that's something you do regularly. The 911 is truly the No.1 drivers car of choice, and an entry level model is surely a good used 911 😉

Great review, appreciate the perspective of what model you'd want as a daily driver and not just which one is truly ridiculous, aka GT2RS. My main question is which would you prefer as a daily driver as well as one you occasionally take to the track, the 718 Boxster S or the 911 C2S? I have a 2018 718 Boxster, love the balance and feel and peppiness, but have always wondered about the 911. Please share your thoughts, thanks.

I big thing the 911 gives you is more storage but I've never been one of those that think a Boxster is for those that can't afford a 911. Very different cars. Then there is the cost to buy and run...Boxster wins again for me 👍
