Disclaimers:
Although I have a few reptiles, I am in no way a reptile expert. I just research a whole bunch and make videos. Please always do lots and lots of research (outside of these videos) before getting any pet, and please take any sick pet that you have to the vet for care. 💜

This is how I ended up with a bearded dragon. My cousin bought it for her son and then he lost interest and so did she so she asked me if I wanted it because she knows I have other reptiles. I did some thinking and ended up taking her in and got her a 4 by 2 enclosure and went all out with the rock background. I never would have chosen to get a bearded dragon, but now that I have her, I really do love her. She's a sweetheart
Awww well I'm glad the beardie ended up with you - it sounds like she has a good home 🥰
My son is 15 weeks old. When I was 14 weeks pregnant I found a bearded dragon on the street in LA so we jokingly say she was his first pet. If he wants a reptile when he is bigger it is my responsibility to care for any pet he wants. I’m the adult and I’m responsible for the lives in my home.
I wouldnt say dont give a kid a reptile but the amount of neglect is crazy sometimes. Im an offender i bought a gecko with no research when i was 8, im 11 now and she finally lives a good life cuz i started learning more and taking better care
I'm nine and me and my dad are thinking about getting a ball python, and we already did all of the research required but I'm glad that your gecko is having a good life now.
My husband said another idea for you is what to do when your wife wants a reptile 😂😂
😂
This. Then my husband can watch it.
Im a teenager and i have been the caretaker of my ball python since i got him! I did months of research before hand and was and still is very passionate about him and i have been very responsable with his care! And also make sure to save a bit of the money i make to put aside for his food and future needs/emergency. And even finding someone to take care of him when we go on a trip
My parents now love my snake and i am very lucky to have gotten him!
That is so amazing. Good job you 💜
It sounds like your ball python has a great home 🐍
I rescued a young corn snake 4 years ago, I let my sister and two little nephews snake sit for a summer. They took very good care of him and he still lives with them to this day.
That's so awesome! Love that they're taking good care of him 🥹
I got my 6 year old son a leopard gecko and after 10 minutes of research, I quickly learned that the starter pack from PetsMart wasn't nearly enough. As of today I'm probably three hundred dollars in on his $29 gecko and climbing 😂. Now he goes to sleep watching his buddy "Brick" in the hide. Definitely worth it.
So I’m a parent with a couple ball pythons, a blue tongue, crested geckos, and a fat tail. My daughter, 7, said she wanted a reptile, I told her to go and find one that she wants to keep. ball pythons were her choice. So for the past couple weeks she’s been helping me take care of mine (both of them) including taking temps, misting, feeding, thawing the prey, and handling. And she has been doing her own research, and I am so very proud of her.
As a kid I was constantly catching Anole lizards 🦎 , putting them in a makeshift container and then releasing them after a day or so lol.
lol my first reptile was a crested gecko at 43. but in high school i helped take care of the critters in our bio lab which included a 5' long greeen iguana, a burmese python and while we had monitors, i fed their food instead lol
I'm so glad channels like your's and others. It was so hard getting info when I started 40 years ago
💜💜💜
Good evening Elle, hope the week ahead is amazing for you!! Thank you for making a video to help the parents as well!!
Young girl ( 6 year old ) wanted a ball python !!! We were at a reptile show . The mother was concerned about the price . Some of us told her about Craig list & a reptile rescue. The mother did a good job about getting information about care .
I would say my very first reptile was a horny toad! It is now illegal to own them and they are trying to replenish the population, but this is where it all started for me. I got a female iguana when I was 33, my two kids and I got bearded dragons in 1997, and we got corn snakes a few years later. They were always very good about the attention the pets were given, but I was always the one who stayed on top of it so nothing got forgotten or left out. We also had poultry...lots and lots of chickens, turkeys, and guineas. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Always great to see new videos. Out 8 year old originally wanted a turtle, I vetoed that when they discovered how much space they need.
We are hoping to finally get her leopard this weekend coming up. Lots of research and learning by both her and I. The one we are looking at is a rescue from a family whose kid got bored of it.
Feeling nervous but your advice helps
I was always a fan of lizards as a kid but couldn’t get one until I was an adult. My first reptile was a rehomed bearded dragon who I soon found out had adenovirus, and then died 2 years later from gastric cancer after many vet visits. 😢 But that didn’t deter me from getting other reptiles and I now have two geckos, a uromastyx, and two snakes (along with an assortment of tarantulas) and all are happy and healthy! Edit to add: I almost forgot the Pacman frog, technically an amphibian but didn’t want to leave him out.
That's amazing!
And I'm sorry about your beardie - adenovirus is so scary 🥺
@@ellesreptilesmy second beardie Wilbur had adeno. We got him from petco and took him in for a checkup a month later and he was diagnosed with it. He ended up losing most mobility in his two back legs. Eventually the disease got the best of him and he passed. I will never buy from petco again. My first beardie before Wilbur was also from petco. He wouldn’t eat from day one. We booked a vet visit and started feeding him slurries, but he didn’t make it and passed two weeks after getting him. He didn’t even survive to the vet visit. Petco is just absolutely horrible.
I got my first reptile at 18. It was a leopard gecko with severe, severe MBD that I rescued from a pet store in a mall in ATL. Her name was Bubba.
My stepson is turning 10 next month and his favorite animals are snakes. I spent the last week getting everything together and finding a reputable breeder and today we picked up his first reptile, a corn snake. I've already told his parents that I have no issues being the one to take care of this snake and take adult ownership of it, especially if this provides a bonding opportunity and a chance for him to see them up close and personally.
My first reptile was a bearded dragon.
I love how you stress that the parent needs to be involved.
I got a corn snake when I was 40 for my son. Now, we have 6 corn snakes and 8 hognoses!
Good video for parents and kids. So mean parents just don't check on the reptiles to see if they are getting cared by the child. Thank you for this one and how you let parents know they are the ones that should make sure there kids care for there reptile pets. These are not toys but living creatures that need care.
GOD BLESS 🐍💖🦎💖🐢💖🐸💖
Totally!
Wonderful video! Thank you
My first pet was my mother's parakeet that we co owned. He was finger trained and taught to talk.
You did a yearly price on a bearded dragon, could you do one on yearly price of a leopard gecko and a crested gecko. a corn snake and a ball python. Also on raising your own insects.
Its funny they say ball pythons don't like to climb & mine likes to hang from the ceiling . She will find a shelf and go for it . When she was a baby she liked to hang from my hair . Their is always one that don't fit the norm
My first reptile I had was when I was a kid many years ago, it was a king snake my father caught in the backyard. This was back before anyone thought about not taking animals out of the wild. I loved that snake very much but my mom hated him because she grew up thinking snakes were descended from the devil of Adam and Eve.
Oh wow 😅 well I think king snakes are awesome 💜
@@ellesreptiles so do I, now I have a Mexican black king snake
I got my bearded dragon 2 years ago (so 25 years old)
I have a question about my leopard gecko! It doesn't like being held yet, but, today when I picked it up, it just sat on my hand and kinda layed there. Does that mean it likes being held, or does it mean it doesn't feel good? 😢 it was like, dragging its belly on my hand sometimes when it walked, but, its eyes look fine and healthy and it's tail does too, so what does It mean, that it was so calm on my hand, when it didn't like it before? I've had it for two weeks this Tuesday
I just got into the hobby about 5yrs ago I spent those years learning and got my 1st reptiles last year 3 cresties. Today I'm getting a beardy. What should I get next😅
