With my beardie, I made a clicky noise when I put my hand in the tank. Just a little soft noise. I also made the noise when I fed him. Over time I noticed that he would come out of his "frozen prey" stance when I made the noise. He knows it means it is ok. Also reading out loud next to the tank, not looking at him seemed to help.
Those are some good tips!

Mine never acts terrified no running or barking, but he will not let me pick him up. I went out of town for two weeks and had a pet sitter there (so he was fed and not alone) and when I came back he heard my voice and ran to the glass and so I just decided to try to stick my hand in and give me treats and pet him since he seemed excited and to my absolute shock he ran up on my hand! It happened two nights in a row then never again lol. At least I know he loves me now lol
Haha that's good! Every now and then Winter let's me pick her up. And she doesn't bark or pee on me anymore, so I know progress was definitely made 😅 some are just less cuddly than others

I got a new leo a few months ago, and he still doesn't like me much. He doesn't run away, but has intentionally bit me a few times 😔
I finally got to hold him last night, and he was calm for a bit. But then he tried to run off, and got super stressed and freaked out when I wouldn't let him. Poor guy even lifted his tail at me 😢

Mine like me just fine, I put my hand in the tank in front of their faces they test by licking, I don't touch them then they usually(!) climb on my hand. This works for most any animal even the human breed. Happy you see you back and looking so much better

I find understanding their body language can help with gaining their trust. It'll tell you when it's best to leave them alone and when you can have a small interaction with them.

Happy I finally watched this! I rescued an elderly male leopard gecko that had never been handled and I’ve been taking it slow as afraid losing its tail this late in it’s life could be critical. Will try some of these ideas though. Thanks Elle!

@@ellesreptiles my baby leopard gecko isn’t really afraid of being held. She actually fell asleep in my hand multiple times. It’s just if I move too fast she’ll get a little shocked, but she is brave :3
Thank you for this video. Helpful information. We actually have been petting her so she can get used to our smell. We've had her for a month now and still haven't held her yet. She's a bit skittish. But we will have to move her soon to clean out her tank. She's 3 years old.
I just adopted a one year old boy on Saturday. His name was Victor, but his name is now Geordi. He is so super cute and I have been guilty of the Star gazing 😂😅Thanks so much for the info
Great tips, Elle! I can't recall the idea of just having your hand in the tank being one that I hear about very often, and it's such a good one! Familiarity decreases fear ❤ I can't remember if you have any Cresties at home or much experience with them? But if there is any content you can think of that would be good for Crested Gecko owners as well, I would be down for that too. Take care of yourself, fellow reptilian 🥰

That's how I worked with the gargoyle I got from Animal Trax. He's quite the nice gecko now. Anyway,I'm glad you are getting better.

I have three Leopard Gecko's two are absolute sweethearts who are happy to be handled but one is a biter who has never liked to be handled, so I respect her wishes unless she needs help with shed on her toes.
I was wondering if you could do a similar video with crested geckos? I just got my first crested gecko last week and aside from seeing her eat the first night, I haven’t seen her at all. I’d love to have a similar video with crested geckos! I’m so glad you’re doing better!
Those are intresting not my experience with my baby leopard gecko he was NOT shy he was able to be handled. Until.......... I actually burt him with too hot of water a few weeks ago 😢 But he is walking. He is my fav leo morph Mack Snow! But i still am upset with myslef i have watched your videos WWR,Clints Reptiles and All kinds of others and made such a dumb mistske anyway..... Im glad there are people like you in the reptile community. ❤

Hi!! So i just got my leopard gecko a week ago from a Reptile Expo. He isn't a baby but they couldn't tell me exactly how old he is or very much about him at all. He has only eaten 2 crickets since then. He won't eat anything else. I've tried meal worms as well as wax worms, just to see what I could get him to eat. I'm lost. Lol
How long should you wait to make a proper decision on if you should get a leopard gecko and how long should you wait after seating up a terrarium?

Helppp, I have a new baby albino lepard gecko and a normal one thats has not ate since I got him (about 6 days) how can I get him to eat? The normal one eats all the time but the albino does not
My leopard gecko ran out of my hand when I was in the kitchen and went under the stove and I couldn’t see her when I lifted and and moved the stove, she was a baby/young and small I had her for a year now so she’s bigger but I never picked her up again ever since I’m scared to touch her now
Before that happened tho we were bonding I put her on my shirt and my bed and stuff but she scared me after she did that (went under the stove) she a fancy leopard gecko
