  • In this video, I share what led me to remove one of the ottomans in my R-Pod 179. I then show the process that I used to repair the floor and replace the trim under the slide-out bench. The goal of this mod was to keep the look consistent with the original look of the R-Pod and to allow me to later restore the R-Pod to its original state if so desired at a later date.

    Hello John. I travel in my R-pod 190 for a living (travel nurse). I've learned to use every nook and cranny for storage. My 190 has the "U" shaped dining area in the back. With just me and my dog I didn't require all the sitting room. I removed the cushions along one wall and placed a small, pressed wood, 6 hole shelving unit. I purchased canvas boxes that fit in each hole. I have more storage than I need now. The shelving unit is black, and isn't a perfect match for the interior, but it has proven to be a great modification without having to do any reconstruction! Thanks again for your great videos! I am currently in Eureka, CA and the weather is sunny and cool on Jan. 14th!! Happy trails!

      Thanks for sharing the modification to your 190. Sounds like it working well. The 190 is a nice floor plan with the dry bath. All the best in your travels and thanks for watching!

    Hey John, Same thing happened to me with my ottoman when the camper was new. I forgot to take the top cushion off before I brought the slide in and that was enough to loosen the screws (make those big holes in the floor) and knock the ottoman over. Fortunately when I had it in for service the dealer put it back in place for me, and I added a couple reassurance screws after I got it home.

      MN, I think the ottomans are not secured all that well into the floors, as the floors are a very thin layer of plywood and then foam insulation. It's easy for them to come loose for sure. Thanks again for watching!

    Love what you did! Do you think there would be a way to reliably mount a Lagun table to the couch base?

      In the R-Pod 179, the dinette has a solid wall under the seating area. You might be able to attach it there. I haven't done this to know but I am think some other owner may have. I would point you to the owners forum (rpod-owners.com) or the R-Pod V2 Facebook group to inquire. Thanks!

    Hi John don't we need the Ottomans if we want to convert that area for sleeping? Thanks!

    • @JohnMarucci

      Great question MN. On my Instagram feed I have photos of using a folding camp stool and cushion that fills in this area so you can still convert it to a bed. Thanks for the question!

    Does this problem reflect the quality everywhere else in the rpod?

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  5 років тому +3

      Sam, I don't think this reflects on all other areas of the R-Pod. The floors and walls are especially light weight in order to keep overall weight down. Generally the build quality is good compared to other RVs in its class. I'd recommend looking at the R-Pod, Jayco Hummingbird and Winnebago Winnie Drop in person to get a feel for quality. All the best!

      @@JohnMarucci thanks John for the recommendations. The fact that you've bought two of them tells me they must be decent trailers.

    John, I like this idea and the space create. I have one question for you, or others making this alteration before I jump into removing one or both of the ottomans : Does the slide our need the ottomans for support when pulled inside? The bottom of the "bed / seat" seems to rest on the ottomans. Without that support could something happen to the slideout.?
    Really like comment since I'm ready to do this if there is no problem with slide integrity. Thanks.

      Ron, the ottoman bases don't provide support for the slide on the 179. You should be fine removing them. Many people have without issue. All the best!

    What can a person do to secure the ottoman to the floor better?

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  5 років тому

      +Eric Huddlestun That is a good question and I don’t have a good answer. The sub floor has a foam layer which is part of the problem. I am open to ideas on this from anyone who has one. Thanks for watching!

      Take the ottoman up and put a beed of industrial-strength adhesive on the bottom of the frame before you remount it to the floor, or in my case put it in the garage. There goes my nightstand🐸

    Can’t use the dinette as a bed anymore.

    • @JohnMarucci
      @JohnMarucci  6 років тому +1

      We do plan to use the dinette as a bed and I should have covered this aspect in the video. With the folding foot stool where the bed-side ottoman was, and small cushion on it, we can still accommodate someone sleeping there. The key word here is "one," not two adults. It may also work for two small kids. If you check out the video on Sleeping Better in Your R-Pod (in the R-Pod 201 Playlist) you can see the way I set the dinette up for sleeping one adult. Good catch and sorry I didn't speak to this. Thanks for watching!
