The German supermarket Kaufland was prevented from entering the Australian market because of Colesworth's practice of buying up the best sites and not developing them. I expect Lidl doesn't really exist here for the same reason. The government should end the current duopoly, but they won't
I’m a cattle farmer. $20-$50 per kilo on the shelf. Meanwhile $2 at the saleyards. The likes of Woolies kills small business and controls prices…before every town had butchers, bakers, vege stalls, grocers. Prices were fair and service was personal and the shopping experience was pleasant. A contrast to the turnstile type chaotic checkouts and over crowded carparks. A big price to pay because we as a society are too lazy and rushed to forgo one “stop shopping”
Woolworths thought they could RIP the public off and get away with it and be in Australian on Australia Day,,, BIG MISTAKE The public aren't stupid and COLES should take note you are next,,,, once upon a time COLES and WOOLWORTHS were great family owned Australian supermarkets that provided service and price value but not anymore,,,you get no service and prices are rediculously high,,, shame on them,,,😢
Woolies and coles should also not be allowed to stock products branded with their house brand if there is an Aussie equivalent on the market. They are actively giving less shelving space and making high prices on other brands driving money tight customers to buy the cheaper coles/woolie brand. Soon they will not only own the supermarket industry in Aus but also own all the product on the shelves. Giving us no choice in were or what we buy.
Unfortunately it's also the rising price of producing Australian-owned product. Our milk (which I won't name due to doxxing) had to raise the price we sell to Woolworths for because it's become much more expensive to produce the product
@@sonic176yt7 I dont think so. I have eyes and I am old enough to have seen 40 years of changes. Every year the coles/woolies brands expand and the 3rd party brands shrink. They are not simply filling the gap due to lack of brand variety, they are removing 3rd party products in favour of their own. Just think how much of their shelves had their own brands 10 years ago vs today and now imagine if they keep this pace will it be in another 10 years.
If you're in business, you're trying to profit off of your products. It's logical and predictable. It's the CEO's damn job to facilitate as much rip off as they can "reasonably" get away with. All CEO's would do this or be fired. This is what you get when food is sold for profit.
And a side note for Coles, Woolies, STOP pushing the foreign brands ahead of our Aussie ones. Sure they cheap but they NASTY and rob our farmers! And instead of donating shit brands that doesn't sell, give the kind of food people can use. Yeah I'm looking at you emergency food box people. Put pressure on the stores for better products, just because some people are poor don't mean we eat slop!
Woolies loves giving their customer half price on junk food like chips and chocolates. When there is a price increase, they'll do a discount that week on that particular item, perhaps 20% off. Week after, check the new regular price. They have so many subtle tactics. Vegetarians, good luck, you'll rarely see discounts there. Coles is no better. Down Down, but stick it to ya quietly with something else.
The unions were screaming for years. This short term thinking is too similar to US corporate tactics. Nothing will change, he will cry into his retirement bonuses. So will his successor.
five finger self checkout discounts are the way to go hey overpaid marketing geniuses at Woolies.. hang an aussie flag outside each store. Watch what happens.
Went to buy Whittakers Chocolate today at Woolies. Price has jumped from 6.50 to 8.00 in less than 2 weeks. WHAT??? Also, when 'Putin's price hike' happened Woolies had fraudulent price tags on many of my usual items eg item that was previously 3 dollars and 50 cents had a sticker claiming it's previous price was 5 dollars and bargain price is now 4 dollars. Almost every item jumped by 50 cents to a dollar and often up to 2 dollars with sneaky increases happening ever since. Fuel prices have stabilised. What is their excuse now?
Hey guys, what about price gouging by the insurers and body corporates ? It seems no one is paying attention in that direction. It is a massive rip-off in these two sectors, I can assure you that.
I love sky news, you guys are the only channel that allow comments. All the big TV news shows disable comments, which just shows they do not want the public to have an opinion. Kudos Sky News.
8 years in the role, with a $8.4 million pay packet per year, why does he not care. Amanda will be no different, taking her big pay packet while customers and workers suffer.
I'm still feeling ill after suffering food poisoning after foolishly eating ice cream that had obviously melted and refrozen. It was not a delivery problem as the other litre was in perfect condition, but this one was very much off and I should have said something 😔 Live and learn.. assuming that I live 😢. Thanks very much for the bacterial stew Woolworths 🤮
poor brad only made $8:5 million last year nearly $6 million in bonuses to keep the shareholders & Woolies happy that's our money in his greedy pocket all up $65 million the he has the nerve to say he understands people are feeling the pinch the rich get richer off the backs of the poor Shame on them he quits because he has been caught out gutless is what he is a real jerk 65 mill
I watched the replay of the Four Corners interview and it was absolutely piss poor journalism. I'll never watch that program again and I don't blame the Woolies CEO for walking out of the interview this is gutter journalism at it's worst and the ABC should publicly apologise for their actions.
He's stepping down to give way for another CEO to continue the dirty work of price gouging of these greedy supermarkets, Same horse different jockey
Precisely
💯

Yes it's expensive but we've stopped shopping there and Coles and shop at the markets and family owned butchers. Vote with your wallet.
Like Alan Joyce he'll take his millions and flee the country to avoid prison and Albo will escort him to his private jet.
He hasn't done anything illegal so why would he go to prison?

Woolworths. I’m not coming back.
There Woolworths the ripoff people over inflating prices on you
Lol. In South Africa there is zero accountability. Welcome to Australia Brad!
He may hate Australia, but he certainly doesn’t hate Australian money after receiving his 20 million dollar departing gift.
Honestly who shops at woolies anyway, it's more expensive than coles
Never shopping at anti-Australian Wokeworths ever again!!!!
Hahahhahah wow. Honestly no one can save Woolies...
It will all be forgotten in 6 months, it always is.
They’ll be fine! People will continue shopping there

Definitely price gouging I am single and it cost me $60 for 4 items.
i’d like to see woolies look after our primary producers, woolworths currently buy lamb for $4/kg and sell it for $46/kg
Get those “Welcome here” stickers out of there!
Another rent boy user, but Woolworths have been doing this garbage a long while, remember the celebration cake, over 15 years ago. Boycott permanently
Na Na Na Na Hey Hey-ey Goodbye
That's one dirtbag gone! NEXT.
Lets not forget the quality of their overpriced not so fresh produce!
Absolutely 💯
