David was not prepared to deal with an interviewer so intelligent and knowledgeable of his "church." Ted did his homework AND he was rational and lucid. Ted Koppel did a really excellent job. I really feel a free press and unbiased investigative journalism is critical for any free country or democracy, and I worry about the decline of newspapers and journalism in favor of click-bait and partisanship.
Goes hand in hand with the drop in reading comprehension. Cellphones and pads have murdered that part of it more effectively than any poor schooling ever could.
What is so unbiased here? It's very biased. During the whole interview he is trying to impose his opinion about something he obviously doesn't know much about instead of having a conversation. Unbiased is not opposing somebody but letting someone tell you their view and then let you and your audience decide for themselves. This interview was an attack from the beginning. This is such a great reminder of what great journalism used to look like. The time when journalists would challenge their guests whilst wittingly roasting them like this 🤣
And also have on a guest that society opposes and detests without getting accused of 'giving them a platform' and inherently supporting them. That scares a lot of interviewers out of being willing to have those sorts of people on to be challenged.
Many (almost all) of journalists who are in the business today got their jobs because #1) they are great looking AND #2) their parents were rich enough that they could afford unpaid internships in the business until they got their first shot. That is it. Looks and money. What journalism does NOT require today (something that Ted Kopel possessed) is intelligence and quick thinking. Ted was able to respond (in turn) to each of David's points. There pretty much isn't a journalist working today that could do that without following a perfectly worded script. They can't think like that because they can't think. In 2002, Katie Couric interviewed Ann Coulter. All Katie could do is ask gotcha questions from a script and when Ann responded (in turn) Katie would dismiss all of Ann's rebuttals with the comment "well I am conducting the interview and I will ask the questions." Katie could never match wits with Ann Coulter (that could never happen) BUT she got her position in the media because of her looks and connections. She can't do any investigative anything, but she made the big bucks. Journalists and reporters, they do not want to be challenged on their own shows. To be challenged might expose the fact either A) they don't know anything or B) they can't think or possibly C) they don't know anything AND they can't think. Those are not pre-requisites' for an industry where the people working in it are focused on looks and money.
The journalists who can do this still exist. They just don't have the platforms they once had because media companies have been allowed to conglomerate to ridiculous levels. Serious journalism is not what advertisers want to sponsor. End of story.
That's supposed to be their very function, their only "raison d'etre", the very key to sustainable democracy, truth, and freedom everywhere. They've all completely sold out now, petty traitors to their own realm.
AMEN! Please bring back real investigative journalism. If you are corrupt you should be afraid of the press… not comforted by the knowledge that they will work for you.

Sadly Tom Cruise has allowed himself to be brainwashed and groomed by sadistic narcissists whose main goal is to alienate people from their loved ones and steal their money. If you watch this interview and then compare it to the 60-minute Australian interview Tom Cruise gave, it's uncanny and creepy how similar Miscavige and Cruise seem. But what is really scary to me is the stark difference in the way the interviewer handles Miscavige's aggressiveness (and the nonsense in general). The Australian guy apologizes to Cruise, but Ted Koeppels never backs down. I'm not criticizing the Australian guy. He was good too, but I do wish journalism like this was more mainstream now. @@luc00144 I'm a woman. And that's my business. And I'm neither a zealot OR a scientologist , Detective!
Good times. Miss um

Sadly Tom Cruise has allowed himself to be brainwashed and groomed by sadistic narcissists whose main goal is to alienate people from their loved ones and steal their money.
