- The short haired songstresses’ professionally known as Zhané (Jah-Nay) stood out in the heavily saturated 90’s R&B world with their soulful hits and striking look. Their talent for blending multiple genres together like R&B, jazz and hip hop led them to create classic and timeless music. However, they disbanded and disappeared from the music scene after producing only two albums. Let’s find out whatever happened to Zhané.

Their piano & vocals over EPMD's You're A Customer was simply just legendary!
@@traj_mahal300 I agree
YESSS! and "Vibe"
Ultimate Favorite!!
I swear! Lol
They were ahead of their time. I loved their music together.
Still listen to on the regular.
I think they were the definition of the nineties
@Creepy People Yes!!!
No
All of their early songs sound like they should have come out 20 years after they actually did
Damn they are both beautiful black Queens aging like fine wine.
Yyaasss
Why is it whenever there's a light skinned in the mix, niggas always emphasizes the "Black Queen" thing???
@@AltRightMustDie Cause they are Black Queens
@@AltRightMustDie they’re both black smh 🤦🏽♀️ the post acknowledged them both .
@@markmenez4097 they were both beautiful and they looked like me and my sister growing up one was a beautiful melinated woman and the other a beautiful light sister either way they were gorgeous I'm glad I actually listened to them I knew women who looked like them we could relate to these women.
Like Envogue, those sisters had great harmony.
The 4 Original EnVogue members are Top Tier!! Untouchable!!
I keep saying Chloe X Halle are the second coming of Zhane and folks be like... who?
Breaks my heart. Their harmonies, class and beauty give me the same vibe.
I've heard that before but I actually see another sister duo called VanJess a bit more of a closer musical resemblance to Zhane. Interestingly, they've both covered Zhane songs within the last year that are worth checking out.
@@DaNiBRi718 yessss I said the exact same thing about VanJess. They come the closest to Zhane as far as sound goes. They and Chloe x Halle are incredible
Listen to VanJess..that’s all ima say
@@tonitonytone92 I feel like I owe you for this lol. I watched the "Slow Down" performance live.
They are goooood.
I like ChloexHalle, but VanJess is incredible!!
The Era where real music existed and Talented Vocals were the focal point... I really miss those days when the lyrics meant something music really has changed
It still is real music and talent Research.
Yes music like pop that coochie lol. It was bad music back then as well just like now.
@@mielissa100ify Agreed.100%. That can be said for every generation. Every generation will have "one hit wonders", "fads", and music made to last as well as music made for the moment. The 90's (as far as black music goes) was more focused on R&B and New Jack Swing. Vocals dominated as well as good lyrics. Not saying that's not the case now. Just saying that was the way it was in the 1990's. Lyrics people could tie to a moment or experience that was meaningful to them are what classic songs are made of. "Pop that coochie" was never meant to be a classic....it was just for the moment. It was a "fad".
Even rap music was different in the way it was crafted lyrically and musically. I can't say it was better but I can say it laid the foundation for rap music now.
90's music has no expiration date
Before the weaves and extensions and whatever. We had these two beautiful queens. Rocking naturals. Singing with on point harmony. And looking sexy as hell!!!!!
Zhane’ was everything! - two beautiful, classy and talented women. Ahead of their time!
The most underrated group ever 💔
Im happy that both ladies are doing well.
I smiled through this whole video because as a ittle girl i remember looking at the cover of the Zhane' album (them holding the mic) and being so infatuated and baffled at the fact these women had haircuts like guys but were still sooooo beautiful and feminine, so much I started cutting my hair at age 10 and now at 33 I wear a low fade!! Zhane' Still gets played in my home! #RealMusic
Zhané mos def one of the most underrated RnB acts of the 90s!
They were BOTH SO BEAUTIFUL!
When their video hit and we heard those voice, it was like "wow" who are there ladies? I can see the 70's influence. While they callaborated with a lot of rappers, they didn't seem to fit. They seemled a tad out of place because they sounded old school. They had something.
@@noeltaylor3594 Something that's MISSING FROM MUSIC, NOW...
I'm about to turn " Lucky45" I found them at 15.
Zhane's song "Vibe" completely and single handedly embodies what the mid-1990s feels like. Never noticed until now that Renee somewhat resembles and gives me Lauryn Hill vibes. She's a gorgeous chocolate sister!!!
Yeah that’s my jam!
They need an unsung episode
Yes they do!
@@tharris19listen to the song called changes that is a Monster Jam😊
Their music is timeless! And they're both strikingly gorgeous with beautiful voices that blended perfectly!💜
The days when music was my outlet!!! My kid wll never experience that. 90's R&B will always be the best that ever did it!!!! ❤❤❤
Amen
90s & 00s were the last decades for great R&B, but the 60s, 70s, & 80s were better which why 90s & 00s R&B constantly take notes from the previous decades before them
Their 2nd album gave me LIFE ***deep sigh*** oh to be back in the day again with good music.
“Sending My Love to You” ♥️♥️♥️
They deserve to win man. Look at those winnings smiles. There collaboration with busta , its just a party, was my jam back in the day. So much talent. Whether there working together, or there doing there solo career's. I'm just glad to see these lovely ladies living well and doing there thing. Keep producing beautiful art into the atmosphere. Lord knows, we need it
They should reunite the fans would love it...seriously 🙂
I know that's right 😊😊😊
I STILL play their music. I love the whole debut LP: "Sending My Love", "Hey, Mr. DJ", & "Groove Thang" are timeless (the LP "Saturday Night" didn't really have as much soul)!
What?! You're bugging, Saturday Night had plenty of soul and not to mention JAZZ. that album was on a higher and mature level.
I STILL LOVE THEIR MUSIC
My favorite is "Shame". I like the video, watching them sing and dance is timeless.
They were really good. I actually play their song "Hey Mr DJ" almost everyday. This video was really informative - I had no idea they interacted with Biggie Smalls. In some ways, they remind me of the duo Koffee Brown (famous for "After Party") in the sense their music was really good but they never quite left the longstanding legacy on music like they deserve.
A Zhané REUNION with co-production by Patrice Rushen would be great
'Request line' is a banger!! 💥💥💥
I've been singing all my life and it's a testament to look back at all the music I listened/listen to and realize I had the best vocal coach is growing up just by listening to the radio. ❤️
You sing??? Let me hear ?? Cause if you wack I'll really tell you🤣😂🤣😂😂
Preach. And u knew who was who
Wow! they are still gorgeous!!
“Groove Thang” was everythang... and it still is🙂
Patrice Rusen and Atlantic star....now that aint bad influence...and especially Patrice cause shes a enigma as far as im concerned.
All of Patrice Rushen's music still slaps!
@@deevah2450 Oh absolutely ! " Haven't we heard" lol. I wish she got more notoriety but then again being the music director for the Grammy's is pretty big notoriety lol
Sending my love is still my jam
It's a groove thang, it's got a funky swang... Groove thang. Forever a favorite
Lord I use too be so obsessed with their song & the music video of CRUSH....
I LOVE that song!!!!!

@@GoldenGraham25 mines too... it was a hauntingly beautiful song ..
That is still my song!!!!
I'm cracking up at all the folks talkin' bout they've been calling them "Zane" all these years when the actual title of their album IS "Pronounced Jah-Nay," and is prominently displayed on the cover. I'm weak! 😂 I hope none of y'all have jobs where attention to detail is paramount. 😂😂😂
I'm glad you said it instead of me!😂
Frfr
I was a kid and didn't know shit about french..get over urself
Yea I went and bought the album at 5 or 6 with my allowance to know that 🤣🤣🤣 lighten up!
@@Know26874 😂😂😂
“Sending my love” is still my jam
I remember Ashley on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was singing Hey Mr. DJ in one episode
The era where women let their voices out and not their body parts
Good times ❤️
You forgot about Adina Howard, Lil Kim and Madonna and them but okay
Women and men let their bodies out then and have always .
I often wonder why people make this comment as if twerking or freak dancing is something new to the 2000’s. Like, we're these people just living in a bubble or was I? Lol
Are we thinking of the same era???😂
I'm just happy that this story had no beef there was no anger that they were able to agree to focus on themselves without there been hatred between the two
Crush is still such a beautiful composition, I still play it daily
I can barely listen to everything happens for a reason without crying... Man.. I miss this group and these days...
😟 girl YES!!!! My grandparents were living then and I still cried now I kinda avoid the song because all those deep emotions come flowing in.... 🤦🏽♀️🥺😢
Mannnnnnnnn. An entire WORD!
Me too!!!!
That will always be a jam.I named my daughter after these 2 beautiful ladies thank you.
20+ years later, and their music still sounds timeless and classic. Back then, it was about the music, not about the BBLs and exposed body parts. Love Baylor Project as well. They have a couple of their videos on UA-cam.
They second album was nice !!! I think a lot of people slept on it .
It’s great to hear they are doing well. The song “color” is a hidden gem, listening to them with there soulful harmony makes my soul happy, and a glass of wine brings me to heavens door.
6:49 She aged BEAUTIFULLY! ---GORGEOUS!
wow how rare it that there was no negativity or divisiveness in this story. Wishing both of the sisters well!
Omg I just got chills, singing "sending my love" in my head. The nostalgia is sending me realizing I was only 9 and singing my heart out to this song.
Attended TU with both ah dem, Renee was going to school and working downtown Philly. Two Beautiful and talented sistahz, Renee was and is especially stunningly Beautiful to mi.
These were the days when they kept things to the imagination. Respect to these sisters for bracing us with their beautiful voices..#the90sweredabomb
I love when they harmonize! Takes me back !
When you had to have talent instead of just twerking
Facts
Tha Truth one of my favorite R&B groups!
Exactly
TRUTH💯
Word. Think about the sheer amount of TALENT that was in Black R&B music until like 2000.
I miss these days music was so enjoyable, classic and fun. No twerking, no explicit lyrics..just straight up class, style and talent. You can still put their music on and dance the night away. Im happy they are in good places in their careers & personal life.
These ladies looked very beautiful, as beautiful as their voices and music.. We need to get back to this kind of music. ❤️❤️
They met at Temple in the late 80's NOT the 90's. Also they were never solo and always together. I was a student at the same time and knew them at the time. Actually Jean is the better singer of the two. Kind of like Regina Bell.
TU 94
But I say that Renee was the better looking one.😊
@@travisbell5140 they both were cute with that late 80s style everyone had back then.
I will never forget zhane.
They're both still beautiful.
I'm loving this channel. You're doing an awesome job. ❤🙌🏾
Thank you so much! I need the encouragement.
@@JuicyPopEntertainment I am glad to have found your channel. Please keep the videos coming! There are enough one and two hit wonders for you to post a video every other day.🤣
I still listen to all their music weekly! Love them. True talent.
Am still listening to the vibe till this day...these girls we slept on by some of y'all...
"Just Like That" was not a single but should've been. That could've been a feel good summer hit. The song is timeless.
I really love this channel. You focus on the positive parts of artists’ careers while not dwelling on the smut that so many love to see. You should do a vid on the group Sunday from the early 2000s
THANK YOU BEAUTIFUL QUEENS🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💯👸🏻👸🏾✊🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is great 🔥🔥 Chloe x Halle did a cover to sending my love on Spotify and UA-cam
I loved this group when they came out. Still love their music.
Jean’s voice is angelic.
Groove thang is one of my favorites always gets me in the mood ✨
Zhane is in my top three favorite female duo/group of the '90s! They are both beautiful, talented and criminally underrated. My favorite song of their is "Vibe" and my favorite album by them is their debut . They only produce two albums but both are masterpieces. I hope they make another album.
You simply could not have been a fan if you couldn't pronounce their name correctly 🤣. Signed, 80's raised and grew up in the 90's baby.
Right!!!! I mean the album cover of the first CD was titled "Pronounced Jah-Nay"🤷🏽♀️
This!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was my group! I love Zhane' Always. Yes, like the comment above stated. They were definitely ahead of their time. La la la was my s! I'm so sad to hear they haven't come bk t ok do a reunion or something. We need music like that now. Wow man, damn.
I'm glad they're both doin well & there's no drama or scandal wit them...✌🏽😁❤
Well they were beefin not too long ago because one of them was using the name to do shows without the other one
I was a youngen when they hit the scene, but that "sending my love" is still one of my favorite songs of all time.
The entire time while watching this video, I kept saying to myself .... “I know that beautiful voice from somewhere!” Had to do a little research before I asked and watched your intro video. Yes! Is Genevieve. Your voice is AMAZING. Love your channels.
MAN!!! I remember them! They had HITS back in the day! Swear I miss the late 90’s/early 2000’s when music meant something, artist sang words you could understand and gave you those good feelings and vibes! Anyone born in the 80’s can understand what I’m saying and understands that feeling we use to get. You had to actually have TALENT; music back then and really any music before the mid 2000’s wasn’t just studio noise with auto-tune, a dope beat and a catchy hook. It was REAL; down to the voices AND the instruments. I miss what music used to be cause LORD KNOWS, with the exception of a few artist, what we got right now - just aint it! My Grandmother sang back up for Aretha and others during the Motown era in Detroit in the 60’s-70’s, and during the same time, my Grandfather, played the instruments and recorded for Motown and some of the most prolific, talented and gifted artist we ever had. I guess my musically inclined family allowed me to appreciate the true art and craft of music and what a GIFT music use to be. We need all that back!
They really are some mellow ladies had a chance to meet them when I was a kid.
Probably the most interesting thing ... comparing this to other groups that ended ... was they were mature enough to call it quits when they did. Their sound was mature, not 'adult', and fun which we dont have right now.
I loved that first record. It’s still one of my dev desert island discs! Thanks for the revisit! 🙏🏼
They are the best can not be duplicated........ Love their songs
They forgot that song "Love Me Today"I love that song.
Me too 😊😊
Compile all of Zhane's remixes and soundtrack songs and you'll get a nice 3rd CD. I'm shocked their record label failed to do so
I worn out their debut CD ( and still have it in cassette) back in 94'.. They were my favs R&B girl groups with SWV. I miss my early 20s in the mid 90s. I have Jean as a friend on facebook.
#LongLiveThe90s 💙🎤🎧🎶
Thank you ......i loved these ladies....they were doing quality musuc........#Sivu.......South Africa
"Hey, Mr. DJ", "Groove Thang", & "Sending My Love" timeless classics
I'm glad they simply went in different directions. I'm sure if/when they see each other it's all love.
I loved vibe, groove thang and who's sorry now that first album introducing Zhane was some fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
This is excellent. Thanks for your diligence and attention to detail in bringing us up to speed on these two very talented ladies. It seems like they're taking up where Vesta Williams and Phyllis Hyman left off. Both ladies had very strong jazz and blues roots. And it seems that the same is true for Jeanne and Renee
My all time favorite female R&B duo
These were my queens right here!
These ladies were so damn fire together.
Time really is a curse. 90s were golden.
Zhane...total ...702 ...swv ... allure ... what happen to them all ..... that was music back in da day ...!!!! Why god why !!!!!!!!
Oooh! All🔥💯
Well now we got Cardi and Megan.. WAP anyone? ☺️😁😂
Thanks to you, I purchased the song,"Looking Up to You" by Michael Wycoff.

Just the singles.
Brings back so many great college memories for me. Zhane was on rotation at all the parties and get togethers back in the day when I was attending a HBCU. I always wondered what happened to these beautiful ladies.
They had some jams back in the day Hey mr Dj sending my love & A Groove thang and i liked when they did Evelyn king song shame for the Low Down Dirty shame sound Track.
I liked that song they did with busta Rhymes its a party.
Sending My Love was my jam back in the day!... 🎶
In The UK there was a similar duo called Mel & Kim who were born Melanie & Kimberly Appleton (Mother is West Indian, Father Is British) they had the Number One Hit "Respectable" which was written by Matthew Stock Scott Aitken and Pete Waterman who were the UK's Hottest Songwriting Team in the 1980's. Pete was and is still so powerful that Simon Cowell followed him around like a Punk trying to get his Girlfriend a Recording Contract. Her name was Sunitta who had the Hit Toy Boy whose Mother Miguel Brown had the hit So Many Men So Little Time. Sadly enough after only Three Years Melanie aka "Mel" died of Cancer.
I LOVE MEL AND KIM!!!!!! Especially their song “That’s the way it is”
