My first car back in 1992 was a white 71 VW camper. This video brings back nothing but awesome memories. I’m envious of the work you guys are doing!
Right on
"Get at least one thing done every day" has become my motto. I enjoy the hell out of these videos, keep making them! :)
Thanks will do!
Definitely, support and love the VW community!
Yep everyday
Thanks for the update, guys. Good to see VW activity continuing on your projects. Take care. Stay healthy!
thanks Steve you too!
Thanks for the inspiration to get off my rear end and start at least doing 1 thing a day on my projects. It’s so easy to just say I’ll do it tomorrow. Also I like your process of part cleaning and storing as you go along. Way smarter than the way I’ve always done, and lost parts or fasteners. Thanks for your videos, very helpful.
Very glad to hear! Thanks Martin
Awesome! In the midst of completing the resto on my 70 westy. Cant wait to see what VWLife does to this beudiful bus! Your enthusiasm for VWs is infectious and keep up the great work
That we appreciate it hopefully your project goes well
Hows the restoration coming? I just ordered the canvas for the pop top from bus depot and got the interior sent out to get redone. Once completed I will upload a lil video to you guys
its been a dream of mine to have a microbus to travel the country in and do landscape photography. I decided to start watching some restoration videos and was pleasantly surprised to see this video as the first one i clicked on as I live not even 20 minutes away. Always blown away by youtube and how you have no idea the cool things your neighbors are doing. Cant wait to see where this project goes, and who knows, if i ever get a bus myself in the near future, will have to give you guys a shout. Keep doing what y'all do!
cool! we'll be at In-N-Out burgers tonight. look on Facebook for "austin aircoolers VW Gang"
I want to do the exact same thing. I fully support your goals 👏👏💙💙
Natalie L and I hope you achieve your goals as well!! 🎉 if you have a photography Instagram or something happy to give you a follow. Or if you just meant bus travel wise disregard that, either way. Here’s to a better future 🤙🏻
@@ThirdMonarch I meant more of getting the van & traveling the country but honestly I have always been very interested in photography as well 😊 I have thought about buying a camera & taking some classes. I am going to follow your page on Instagram 😊
Natalie L well hey THATS the ultimate goal right there so you know I’m hoping for the best for you 🙌🏻🙌🏻 and no way?! I love that! I always want people to try a new skill or hobby that interests them, everyone has such a unique perspective on life. It deserves to be shared!! And thank you for the follow 😁
im actually in the process of restoring a 79, and i seriously mean it when i say it wouldnt have happened without you guys. If learned a lot from you guys and you got me really interested in vws. I cant wait for the video :)
That is so awesome! We are so happy to hear that keep at it brother and you can do it
What a great show!
Wow!!! Thanks for showing us around, you guys have a awesome shop, and Who knew you you sold parts! I think thats so cool! I wish I had a shop like that. I have a one car garage, where the 72 bug resides, and my 80 westy sits outside, (a daily driver going on 40 yrs!) So yea, Im jealous of a garage that lets you work inside! Thanks for all your time and effort in making these vids! This is how this VW community thrives, because of dedicated guys like you and your son. Your both lucky to have that bond. Stay safe and healthy!
Indeed thanks and cool to hear about your bus!
One of the things I like most when watching the VW Life crew @ TJK HJ is that almost everything is so neatly organized. Even in the mail room. Respect!
Have to stay organized
Great idea to clean parts as you remove them. It does feel good checking off items on a list and it gives me a game plan how to fully complete a area.
Stay healthy and Peace
John
Thanks John!
So true,so true! A little every day, make a overwhelming project come together... small goals... fun update guys. 🤙✌😷
😂👍
Just got my VW Life t-shirt in the mail! Stoked to rock it!
that's great Jeff thanks for the support!
I just added a 74 Bay window to my family of cars! You guys have inspired me to go ahead and wrench on it to get it nice enough to drive around!
Well done! Keep the vids coming!
That's awesome!
Nice video, I’m taking notes. Just started restoration on my 79 vw bus. I like how organized you keep the parts. A lot of work ahead, but I like what you said just do one thing a day on the bus. It’s great way to go about such a big project.
That's awesome! Post pictures of it on our Facebook page facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
Again, another Great Video from you VWLifers. You Guys are so Good at what you do and how you do it. Thanks for sharing and always being there for us. VWLife👍. BigW:-)

You too!
Wow, I wish I had a workshop like that to do my 71 bay in, it was restored 16 years ago and is starting to show signs of some love needed😀. I have just given my 70 bug to my son Jacob for his 21st birthday this week so he is going to restore that. Great vids guys keep em coming 👍🏻
That's awesome! Post pictures of them on our Facebook page facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
Enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
VW Life man I enjoy all your content. I really need to get back to filming.
Bin aus Belo Horizonte (Brasilien), endlich habe ich gesehen wie man das Dreieck Fenster ausbaut. Danke. Hier verlangt man viel Geld für den Austausch der Dichtungen. Macht weiter so.
Thank you! Awesome work! 👍😊
Glad you liked it!
Really enjoyed this video guys !! Good work and tips as always . Stay safe !!
You too thanks!
Great tips as always fellas! Look forward to more!
Awesome, thank you!
I subscribed! Fixing up 1977 bus out in West FTW here by myself. Thank you for saying "Do 1 thing a day" I needed to hear that
Glad to hear! Post pictures of it on our Facebook page! facebook.com/VWLifeVW/
i love this bus! big thumps up for you guys!
thanks take care! :)
thanks for the video guys! good luck on the westy!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. Stay safe. Peace
You too sir stay safe out there!
Nice show guys , keeping it real !
Thanks Robert have a great day!
Staying busy! Great video guys
Always!
"Just one thing a day." is the best advice for restoring any old car. There is always, ALWAYS, some little thing you can do, even if you only have a half-hour there is something. That's the difference between taking a year or two and taking 5 or 6. Those little things add up and make you cruize along! I keep my list on Excel because I don't have a space for a flip chart :)
you know it! yeah a spreadsheet is also a good way, as long as you're keeping track :)
Cool stuff guys, big new project with Gilbert but you've got it covered. Looking forward to future progress!
Almost as cool as your split 😜
@@VWLifeVW I can live with that (thanks!), but it'll be hard to compete with Jerry and Helga!
Great content as always 👍🏻
Thanks as always!
I love the VW kit. I always thought it would be cool if someone sold and all in one deal.
thanks!
Great work guys! Your enthusiasm is inspirational!
Thanks!
I do love a classic VW and my old teacher from my old school had a classic VW golf GTI and he loves classic VW's
oh very nice!
@@VWLifeVW I think it's a late 80s/early 90s model so very retro which I like
I follow you guys from Monterrey, Mexico. How can I get TJK and VWLife stickers for my bus from you guys?
There is a link to all our merchandise and stickers under each video but here is the direct link to our VW Life stickers. We don't currently sell the Texas Junk King sticker but you could get a shirt. ua-cam.com/video/_JLayMChE9Y/v-deo.html
Loved this video! I'm so impressed with your organization and knowledge Gary! (Cristina with Rose Love Bus from Austin)
Awesome hey Cristina!
Keep on keeping on 👍😎
Yes sir!
Nice project! Following
Cool

keep up the great content
You too!
cool dudes, love your workshop! regards from chile
Thank you very much!
I've probably spent around $500 this summer with JBugs, Mid America Motorworks, and Bus Depot. Keep the companies going.
That's right thanks!
this is my dream car and i’m so sad that it’s. so rare now i wish i could get my hands on one :(
They are still available if you look online ..Get one if it's your dream 👍
On the road again kit is a genius idea!
Gary knows his stuff!
Ford black baby!
You know it baby!
Hi guys, always loved VW and just discovered you guys love what your doing. Keep up the good work. A new fan and subscriber from far away in Scotland !!!
Awesome welcome onboard!
cool to have ya son helping ya thats cool
Yep!
You guys did the same thing I did in my garage. Milled around, moved a few things, went to do something and didn't really accomplish much at all. Just add some beer and we will be square!
Lol that's the life
Old cars never die they donate parts for othe cars to live on
this is true!
I love it
awesome thanks!
I am doing laundry and waching you guys videos
Lol
Great Video Little Dude!
Thanks!
@@VWLifeVW Thank you Big Dude!!
Hello there do you have a driver windows mechanism for a 1971 kombi tin top in your eBay store?
Question, hope you guys can help. I got a 72 super beetle and for some reason the battery won’t charge up when the car runs , we always gotta jump it and keep it running but once we turn it off and try getting it to start again it won’t start up. Hop you guys can help me out !
get a test light and see if you have power going from the alternator to the battery.
Enjoyed the video. We are restoring a 78 VW Bus in Houston. Thanks for sharing and we look forward to keeping up with your projects! Once you remove the white paint off the dash and repaint will you do anything to the padded part of the dash?
No 😁
That parts shelf for the resto is brilliant
Thanks
Hi guys. I have a 1971 Volkswagen bug and I have a 2010 Volksvagen bus too. I like Very much them. The vw bug is aircooled but the vw bus is watercooled (model 2011). I'm from Brazil.
ah very cool Claudio! lots of fuscas in Brazil :)
You crack me up 😂 where you get all these names for the rides from...😂👍
😁 They come to us. Some of Gary's are named after presidents, Kennedy, Johnson, used to have a Vanagon named Ronnie as in Reagan :)
Nice 👍
Thanks!
Would love to have a garage /workshop like yours. Plenty of room and plenty of gear.
Yep it's a good one
What paint did you use for the lenses on your tow van?
Hi from Czech Republic...we have also VW community here. Tomorrow me and my girlfriend we'll ride on small quarantine bus-trip with my 1974 T2. Keep continue...you're making nice videos with good content.
Sounds great! thanks
I love Early Bays !!
Yeah pretty cool
Well done guys, the world has gone crazy but Thursdays are still normal in VW Land, well, if one person eating a dodgy bat has changed the world, think what good a VW Lifer Team could do? Greetings from lockdown UK - we have just done our weekly clapping for our frontline health workers, it gets noisier each week that passes! Keep sane & thank yoiu!
that's really cool to hear :) you take care too Gary!
Love this weeks episode! How/where can I order a kit for my bus, 1972 Westy. One a day, I’m a few days behind.
www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2290686
Hey guys am working on a 71 if the engine gets removed the transmission needs to be secured cause I never did now after the engine was done now won't shift can't go to gears like the rod is bent or hokey stick issues or something any advice thanks.
there is a lot going on there, not sure if we could help . is there a shop around you that can help?
The bus is coming to back to life. They’re rare ain’t it? I don’t think I can restore a car I did restore a moped once. Cute dog.
yes pretty rare, we are saving it! thanks !
Just sitting here waiting. (Getting the snacks ready) Roll tape! Oops, that's ole school lingo.
get the jiffy pop!
Yep we use the gtx down under too :)
Ah okay cool
Do y’all have a “on the road again kit” for later models bay windows?
not type 4 motors
Hi there, how are you? I was wondering is the 71 bay window front beam interchangeable with other busses up to 1979?
I believe it is, Since they both have the provision for the booster. The only one that is different is the 1968 is a single year and 1969-1970 is the same but with no area to mount the booster. -Martin
@@VWLifeVW thank you so much for the clarification. I have restored many other vw bugs; but it’s my first time restoring a vw bay window. I really appreciated.
Hey VW Lifers.... where can I find info on your "On The Road Again" Kits? 1962 panel with 1600 and converted to IRS with electronic ignition and electric fuel pump.. thx..
We are sold out but we'll let you know when we get some more
Have you ever worked on a later model im looking at getting this 1976 bus type 2 I was wandering if it is different from earlier buses?
Mostly the difference is in the motor. It's going to have the type 4 Style with fuel injection if it hasn't been messed with. But basically they're very similar
How do I get a on the road again kit? I have a 1970 autostick beetle. Please advise. Thanks
If you search the samba for On the Road Again kits you'll find the ad. But however now we are sold out
@@VWLifeVW when u gonna restock? Put me on list please. Thanks
What do you think of owning a 1975, and older, Volkswagen beetle to avoid CA smog test. would it be cost effective, or would maintenance cost be greater?
Love these videos guys! Do you have a link for your Samba listings?
www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?username=galexander
Am looking to get a spilt screen.Only just found this Vw life you tube channel.brillant great help get a laugh as well
Awesome! Welcome
Do you buy the oil with cam additives ?
some do, we don't.
Hey a good headlamp on Amazon is rechargable it's bright and runs for 4 hrs a charge work great
Ah okay cool
Yeeesssss🤙🏻
👍
90% done with mine (71 Westy). Took me 2 years.
Very cool! Post pics on our Facebook page
VW Life See if I can figure out how to 🧐
VW Life BTW I decide to do full glass on the back left. With that vent window it’s just a matter of time before it’s left open in the rain and the panel below gets wet. That’s why they rot out.
Where can you get an old VW bus to fix up
Hi you all I have a ?.what you do for
Rust proofing.
Nothing really
Hey weird question, but could you explain all the layers that make up the body of the van? I'm thinking 3 layers (base metal, primer, then glossy paint) but I'm not sure. Im an artist, its for an art project that I need to know. Also is the primer super matte and rough or is it smooth and glossy?
yes that's correct :) good luck with the project. what is it?
Hello VW Life
so after a lot of thoughts i decided to buy a used westfalia camper to travel around with my family, tho i am not really experienced with such vintage cars ,any suggestions on what to look for of what to avoid?
P.S. The rust underneath the van and a rusty engine are my two main fears :P
Rust is the main thing.
Nearly finished my 71 campervan moss green 1600 sopru conversion adelaide australia.
Ah okay cool!
Please do a detailed video series on restoring johnson. I have a 1971 low light single cab but I'm a noob that doesn't know where to start
I want to do this sometime, there's a place I live near that has a gutted vw bus, I've been really wanting to visit the spot and talk with the owner about buying it off him, and taking the next 5 years to bring it back to life
5 years? Taking your time huh? Good plan
@@VWLifeVW heck yeah, but man is it gonna be worth the time investment
Love your vids guys. How do I get hold of one of those awesome “on the road” kits for a beetle? That’s really cool.
Currently they are sold out but if you look on the samba for VW on the road again kits you'll find them
@@VWLifeVW thanks guys.. total legends.. loving your work. Just wish I had a workshop space like yours.
How do I get one of those "on the road again" boxes!!!??? I'd absolutely love one in my 70' beetle!
We are actually currently sold out of them but if you Google VW on the road again kit. You will see the ad on the Samba just keep an eye on that for when we re enable it and are back in stock
Your correct Amazon don’t need any more money even Amazon prime shipping is 3 weeks I order Jbugs 5 days Yahoo
Hell yeah Bryan!
How can I order an On the Road Again kit for my beetle?
We are sold out stay tuned for more
W.O.W.
:)
i just bought a 73 vw beetle and was wondering where i can get one of those on the road again kits? and do you ship to canada
We are currently out of stock we sold out of the pretty quick after making the video. If you want to look on the samba we have an add-on there that we will make active again once we get more in stock www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2290686
@@VWLifeVW thanks so much will keep an eye out for when it goes back on sale
