I've made dulce de leche in my pressure cooker. It goes on a rack (label removed), and it takes about 15 minutes. Remove pot from heat and let it do a a natural release of pressure. Works beautifully!
OMG! Im from Argentina, the land of Dulce de Leche! You would love to come here and see/taste all the things we make with it: icecream, cookies, cakes, facturas, alfajores, candies, petit desserts, etc. Thank you so much for choosing dulce de leche for this cake. Love, Lau
Es excelente y tu amabilidaf y paciencia lo hacen mas dulce!!! Soy de Argentina y en nuestro país es el dulce nacional!! Aunque lo compartimos con otros paises hermanos .
My wife is Peruvian and she introduced me to 'dulce de leche' (a.k.a. manjar blanco). She makes the BEST Alfajores de Maizena cookies which also uses the dulce de leche. This cake looks amazing! I know my wife would absolutely love this.
I wanted to say that this recipe is amazing... And that I've recently decided to bump up the flavors and i took out 1 1/2 tablespoons od granulated sugar and put in 1 1/2Tablespoons Brown sugar. Then I added a TAD BIT LESS than 1/4 cup of actual Dulce de Leche and it was awesome! It didnt affect that cake in ANY negative way... Your original recipe is amazung but I wanted to see if I could make the actual cake taste like Dulce de Leche and it DID!!! ANNNYYYWAAAY (sorry for the rambles 😆) thanks again youre awesome!!!
When you said "and a generous pinch of salt", the clip of you pouring the sugar played.. i was shocked thinking the sugar was the salt hahaha. Obsessed with your videos. I'm inspired to bake my own birthday cake during this quarantine period ^_^
Amazing! I tried it and it was amazing! The only thing that I used a little bit less sugar on the buttercream, and I also split the buttercream recipe in half. But it was amazing!
Just learned of you today. Great channel, lots of great advice, and you deliver solid, rich content with a perfect cadence for keeping the viewer focused. Bravo, sir!
Not your usual preppy self. Thanks for the video even though you seemed a little under the weather. Hope you had a good rest after filming. Stay safe and Godbless!
Love the video. Looking forward to seeing more cakes this was quick straight to the point. With just the right amount if tips. And Im baking this cake next week. I'll keep you posted. Thanks John
Wonderful! all ur Tutorials I have seen r the "truth.". I luv yr explanation, confidence and the ability to show yr enthusiasm is sublime. I am a new subscriber and I luv u and the information. Not to mention all the cooking utensils. My mom used to make her Baking Strips, and I never knew the purpose as u did not bother her when she was whipping up all those fantastic desserts. Mouth watering. Keep up the good work. Thanks to mom and her organic garden veggies as well.
The condensed milk can is a pretty good solution but gives a much softer flavour than the real thing. Also, you can buy bakers dulce de leche, wich is much thicker than regular (almost like cement some times) so you don’t need to add sugar.
Hi John, I've just discovered your channel and instantly subscribed. I love your delivery, advice and content. I shall be trying some of your recipes as soon as the kitchen remodelling is completed.
Preppy Kitchen so do I! My in laws threw me a surprise baby shower 2 weeks ago.. I was told it was a family's graduation party and was in charge of the cupcakes. LOL guess who baked for her own baby shower 🤣 that was funny. I'm the only person who bakes which is probably why nobody wanted to bake 😂 My husband asked me if he can bring his ps4 to the delivery room. Apparently he is not concerned since we've done it all before.
Maiko lida I really hope you've been able to make this this cake, since having your baby? Awe, sorry you had to bake for your own baby shower. And, hopefully your husband didn't take his PS4, to the delivery?
The baking strips are great for layers that that will be stacked for a layer cake. Some cakes however are nice if the bottoms and sides Caramelize. Things like applesauce bread, banana banana bread, or even a pound cake. I will certainly start using the homemade version of cake strips you demonstrated whenever I’m making a layered cake. I haven’t noticed baking strips in Munich shops, but I’ll keep my eyes open in future.
Though I've never been good at baking, nor can I really eat a lot of desserts, I enjoy watching your videos. I also appreciate that fact that you don't put fondant on your cakes. I am going to try and make your cinnamon rolls at some point! Everything looks so delicious I just had to subscribe!
If you have a pressure cooker or Instant Pot you can make dulce de leche even faster and easier. Peel off the label, fill pot with water to just above the can and cook on High Pressure for 1 hour 20 minutes. I've done it a million times...Trust me. It's so much easier and you don't have to worry about constantly having to replenish the water that evaporates away if you do it on a stove top. Just make sure that the can is not damaged or it could crack open with the pressure.
Any other way to stiffen up the frosting without adding up a lot of sugar? I cannot stand too sweet frosting. Pretty sure I'm not going to add any more sugar after adding dulce de leche.
Georgia Andrea use vegetable shortening. The amount of powdered sugar used in this recipe is crazy. Thats why I always prefer Swiss Meringue Buttercream over American Buttercream. Harder to handle coz it isnt as stiff as american buttercream but the taste and texture is way better and only needs a few amount of sugar.
Agree!! I NEVER buy or make a cake if using American buttercream. Seriously, in my house, if we got American buttercream in a cake, we always scrape it, and only eat the cake 🤢🤢🤮
Saving this video this looks like heaven. ( hang I don't even care if my other half does not like Dulce de Leche ) Or this cake. I am so making this cake once I have all the things I need. And more cake for me LOL Thank you John
Just saw ur recipe and tried it actually it’s not this recipe but the chocolate cupcakes and so far they love it. Very light though I didn’t do the icing . Sometimes I get frustrated with my icing. What tips can u give me for making the Congo? Thank u . U make baking look easy. Love watching u🙏

You could use cool whip or whipped cream
What about adding pudding mix, and leave to set in the fridge? Or melted marshmallows? It will still be soft, just not drippy
I scrape American buttercream too. It’s vile. I wonder if you can make it with honey instead of powder sugar
