NO! The vegetables are what is rejected by big name and local grocers and repacked for ALDI. Quit shopping there many many years ago.
I kept finding stems and other junk in the canned vegetables.Bread would go moldy in 3 days.

A few years ago the quality of the produce was definitely iffy. But the quality has definitely improved. The Live G Freely brand of gluten free products have earned the Good Housekeeping Seal of approval which is impressive. They are excellent products and I buy them regularly. All in all, I like Aldi.

@@buckeyedav1 Do you like Bagels? Peanut butter? Nuts? Beans? Oreos? Fries? Vegetables? Fruits? Vegan food is everywhere. I’m sure you’re only referring to food that is marketed as vegan and is made to replace animal products, but I hope you can expand your horizons and stop making assumptions that everything that is plant based is loaded with sodium and unhealthy preservatives and chemicals to mock meat. Sure, a lot of them are, but a lot of meat and cheeses are processed and loaded with unhealthy things that’s are even worse. Multiple health organizations have classified meats as literal class one carcinogens. Stuff like sausages, hot dogs, cheeses, beef jerky and literally every other product is just as processed as vegan food. They are on the same level. There are whole food plant based foods and whole food animal derived foods, as well as processed plant based things and processed animal products. Please expand your horizons my guy.

What does impress me most is the fact that their checkers have a stool on which to sit while checking out my groceries. @katillac11 most Aldi stores used to stay open until 9pm Monday to Saturday. Then on October 3rd 2022, Aldi decided to close at 8pm, because their stores aren't as busy after 7pm most days. This is primarily because of online shopping. When I was a kid in the 80's, Aldi used to close at 7pm Monday to Thursday, 8pm Friday, and 6pm on Saturday, and be closed on Sundays. Sunday business company wide (except where prohibited by law) has only been around since 2008. 2006 was when select stores were part of a pilot test, to see if it was worth being open on Sundays, and those store hours were 9am to 6pm.

I don't have an Aldi right next door to me so it's no fun driving all the way over to Aldi and leave without the item I went shopping for which means I have to come back and try again. I would think there would be a law against advertising items and not being able to have them available for customers. It seems like a scam to get customers in.

I have shopped at the Michigan City, Indiana Aldi since approximately 1979. I shopped at Aldi in Germany when I lived there in 1985-1988. I’m not sure I heard her correctly but I think she said Aldi came to US in 2013?

No. She said Aldi started an effort to be a market leader in 2013. This is around the time they started upping their game, offering more variety and sprucing up their stores, actually spending money on advertising, etc.

Aldi opened a store in Merrillville Indiana in 1979, in what used to be Kmart Plaza. Then Aldi moved across the street in 1992. The next Aldi in Lake County Indiana was in Highland Indiana in 1981. That store relocated to Hammond in 2006.

I'm pretty sure that qualifies as WASTE!! ☹ And prices are higher than even WM. But, most people do love their dumpster shopping. Sad that stores can't learn to donate. Looking forward to Aldi actually making changes to the existing Winn Dixie they took over in my area not long ago. I visited it yesterday to see if there was any "Aldi Influence" there, but there wasn't. Same old Winn Dixie, where no one shops (not at that store, anyway). Winn Dixie's prices are higher than all the other stores in the area, selection is awful, and the store is always empty of customers. You could roller skate in the one near me. There is another one in a shopping center further away that seems to do better business, but I don't know why.

I've been a fan for quite a while, but they've been testing my loyalty lately. I found stems and pit fragments in canned pears multiple times, and lately they're out of stock completely. My favorite juice was gone for weeks. And they have an annoying policy of mixing similar but different products in the same display box. Also, they run a very lean staff, which leaves no cashiers on multiple occasions. Another down side is no customer phone service that I'm aware of.

Our Aldi was great when it first opened, but has gone downhill over the past few years. They’ve eliminated 95% of Earth Grown products (Aldi’s plant based brand), raised prices drastically, and the produce is borderline expired when they put it out. Add that to the already limited selection, I prefer a Giant or Safeway.

The ALDI near my house often sells expired food, it is not clean and there is souring milk on the refrigerator floor of the dairy case. The last time I stopped by that store to purchase eggs three eggs in the carton I selected were broken. I left without making a purchase. I wish this store was better because it is within walking distance of my home.

    • @sassylady2001

Those are exceptions to their business model. I hope there all the time. Broken eggs are in every store. That's way people check the carton for cracked eggs before they put a carton in their cart. But... do check the milk expiration dates. I check milk expiration dates where ever I shop, all the time.

TheCynedd, please consider buying non dairy milk, the dairy industry is extremely cruel, many wonderful plant milks and non dairy products available that don't cause suffering and death to anyone.
Dairy cows are forcibly bred /raped every year so they will produce milk.
The babies are not allowed to have their mothers milk.
Male dairy calves are murdered shortly after birth because they don't produce milk.
Do you know how laying hens are kept, they are forced to live in their own filth, denied everything that is natural to them including fresh air and sunshine, newly hatched male chicks are ground up alive, drowned, gassed or suffocated to death because they don't lay eggs.
