    So glad that comments are open, so it's giving me power to get over it. I have got my wrist drop suddenly not realizing how. It's been almost 3 months when I fell asleep out back I woke up leaning over on my arm rest on the chair. Without having Insurance due to starting a new job I have just been wearing a wrist brace. I woke up again Outback and know I don't sleep outside every night LOL but I fell asleep again two nights ago woke up yesterday I cannot use my right wrist it's dropping and my fingers barely work. So I put a brace on that hand just to keep the wrists from dropping . My insurance is effective today I made a doctor's appointment but I can't get in till febuary 26th. So I had to call off work today cuz I am a nurse and I can't do anything without my hands. So I've been researching all day and I finally figured out I have Saturday Night Palsy 100% just imagine having two risks that just drop I've been crying for 2 days I don't know if I can even work and they already told me if I can't work after 5 call outs in a row, they're going to have to let me go then there goes my health insurance. I'm just curious how you're doing and maybe needing some suggestions until I can get into the doctor

    I have been struck down with this and have not been able to play any guitar since. However I have worn a brace supplied by the hospital which has fixed the drop wrist, everything slowly coming back, I found this video very useful and have been doing the exercises as shown.
    Its only been around approx four weeks but slowly I nearly have full control of the hand I am able now to hold a cup of water without spilling or dropping the cup.
    I have also been doing gentle exercises on the guitar to get the fingers working, Its just the middle finger that tends to drag sometimes but , I am slowly building up strength in the wrist and hand, only wearing the splint now when i go out.
    I have been told this could take anything from 15 weeks to two years to have 100% control depending on the person, well its been around one month probably not even that?
    The docs thought i had a mini stroke but i had fallen asleep in an odd position and either had the arm below the elbow pressed hard against the side of the chair, or had all my weight on the wrist which may have been bent backwards.
    Anyone unlucky enough to get this problem make sure you consult your doc or even go to the accident dept at your hospital as this could have been a (MILD STROKE)
    Don't mess around consult medical attention immediately especially if your not fully aware how you got this.
    It wasn't a stroke in my case.
    If it was the result of an injury have no worries, with the correct splint and then gentle exercise things will gradually return to normal the nerve damage in many cases repairs itself, BUT! and there is always a BUT, Nobody can say for sure how strong the hand and wrist will be when fully recovered just know that in many cases your going to have this problem for a very long time, How long depends on you.
    But I am bloody determined to make sure it gets back to normal. Its a killer not being able to play but in the last hour I have been playing WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!! It feels great to feel them strings again!
    Still partially weak but never mind Its coming back at around less then a quarter of a mm a day.
    I do hope this helps somebody as can be a frightening experience.
    Get well people .. Anything changes I'll be back to let you all know.
    Bless All.

    • @sugaryawroc
      @sugaryawroc 4 роки тому +2

      @@Milkatee Hey sorry to hear that bro, What you mean you guitarist and cannot play now?
      OK the first thing is if you have drop wrist Palsy you need to get that wrist into the correct splint so that the wrist is supported and also kept straight.
      No special diet but i always eat plenty of greens anyway.
      I left my splint on for around two weeks. making sure in comfy position and very gentle just hold what chords or notes you can play but do not over do it approx 10 mins per day depends on injury and person.
      Do not force anything just let things come back slowly.
      Remove the splint after approx two weeks the wrist should stay straight follow the exercises in this video.. You will soon get back to normal.
      I am playing perfectly now and up to tempo although the wrist is still only slightly weak. The healing might take upto 15 weeks or more but depends on how determined
      A little each day and do not panic things will return to normal.. It is frightening just needs time. :) let us know how you get on.

    • @sugaryawroc
      @sugaryawroc 4 роки тому +2

      Just an update should anyone have the same problem. I exercised with the splint on then after approx two weeks i started exercising on the guitar just holding basic shapes moving arm and wrist up and down the fingerboard. Slowly by slowly everything returned to normal. A great help were the exercises in this video as was not able to support a cup in the injured hand.
      Yes it is still a bit weak but its not even near the 15 weeks, that is the time i was told it would take to get better but anyone else it might be longer? I was glad to find this video as was worried sick I might never play again.
      However a friend had his right wrist snapped off by a passing car after sticking his hand out, he is a violin player or was, But he also is playing once again.
      So with gentle exercise and Time being the great healer all will return.
      The only thing I cannot guarantee is how strong things will be, but in most cases things will return to normal.
      Just try wearing the correct splint for as long as it takes, but again all depends on you.

      How was it?

    • @elvismendu4886
      @elvismendu4886 Місяць тому

      Here’s some feedback on my journey.
      I started exercises after 10days following Radial nerve injury.
      My first week felt hopeless and useless - i did not see any results. Hand remained floppy without any movement. I did these exercises 2-3 times a day consistently. Of course with missed sessions there and but i made sure i did at least once a day.
      I started feeling or gaining results 3 weeks later. At this stage i could slightly move my hand up and down slightly though. ALSO i could write but with a terrible handwriting.
      After 5 weeks i had great movement up and down and some control over my finger tips. Also i could make a fist although it was weak it gave me hope. Here my handwriting had also improved and my pencil grip was good. Remember guys i was forced to write from day one of injury and coming back from leave because of my job. Perhaps that can be taken as an exercise not sure but consult your doctor or Occupational Therapist.
      After 8 weeks of doing these exercises and using a splinter i had really improved but i started feeling pain on my whole arm. I don’t why but my occupational therapist recommended a scan and it came back normal and i guess it was part of the healing journey.
      On my 10th week i basically had gained muscle strength fully. Although I could not punch someone yet LOL. but it was really good to be able to feel strength on my hand again. My hand writing here was back fully.
      My healing journey was about 3 months long - first days are the hardest but learn to not give up. You are healing even though you do not see thats the trick. Focus on healing slowly don’t rush. Also combine exercises with a good splinter and occupational therapy. I cant stress enough the importance of investing in a good splinter to keep your hand straight and exercise regularly even though you don’t feel like it.
      GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY.

    What's the primary difference between radial and medial nerve pain?
    About a year ago, I injured my forearm by lifting a very heavy picnic bench. Felt a twinge.
    Since then, I frequently have had nerve pain that's started anywhere from my hand (base of thumb) to top of forearm and then shoulder.
    Went to orthopedic and although they gave me a brace to wear at night, some stretching exercises, they couldn't give me an accurate diagnosis.

    • @jeffw8218
      @jeffw8218 Рік тому +1

      Nerve pain is difficult to diagnose because it's often closely associate with muscle pain.
      If it doesn't get better, or if you have continued tingling sensations, then try and go to see a specialist. Un-treated nerve pain can result in lots of problems.

      3 months months in and I’ve started seeing improvements for sure. My wrist was the first thing to start gaining mobility and my fingers have just started slowly being able to move. They like to do their own thing and don’t respond as well as I’d like but I’ve seen some improvements so that’s hopeful. The doctor told me to stop wearing my wrist brace after 1-2 months so that it would begin to strengthen on its on and become accustomed to not having a brace on- he didn’t want it to be reliant on it. I would definitely suggest it. I also took up knitting as it doesn’t require much strength but it has definitely helped improve movement and mobility BIG time. If I try to lift anything over say 5-10 pounds my wrist will just give out and I’m unable to push myself up even just my body weight - but it is slowly improving! There’s hope , don’t let the depression or anxieties get too bad- it will get better. I was so down on myself and finally started seeing results. Hard to do when it feels like it will never end but mine was one of the worst my neurologist had seen in years he said , and it has been getting much better. Stretch, knit, type, do anything that would require lots of movement without a brace on as much as possible and it will retrain the nerves to begin working again. It’s possible ! Take care everyone and be positive- you got this! Lots of love xo

      @@ktownpeels you started seeing first sign of improvement at 3 months and what was it? Im on 6 weeks still no progress and so worried. I can’t lift my fingers to type. What stretches do you recommend?

    • @ktownpeels
      @ktownpeels 3 роки тому

      @@Nada-wq7tb i first was able to move my wrist up and down / side to side. It was gradual but it got better. I used a wrist brace if I was doing anything important or could hurt myself as it would keep my wrist from folding if i was using that arm for anything. Do not use a brace often though and definitely don’t sleep with it. Try to not use one at all- it will heal way faster. If you put your bad arm behind your back as if you were going to grab your opposite bicep(on good arm), make your hand in and out of a fist, spread fingers etc and then try to lift the wrist and fingers up /down as much as possible. At least 10-15 times in a row. It will be hard to do but I found that felt amazing. I also would constantly massage my wrist fingers etc very gently under warm water before stretching. I would do that stretch and two others about 3-4 times a day minimum. The other really good one was with your bad arm- bend at the elbow to a 90 degree angle, hand at about your waist height. Try to touch your thumb to your index finger 👌🏼 and raise your wrist up, down, right, left, then a circle(best you can obviously). Then thumb to middle finger and repeat. Thumb to ring and repeat, then pinky finger. Trying to touch your thumb to each finger repeatedly really helps. Your wrist will work before your fingers, mine were honestly completely “dead” at first, then I had feeling and when I tried to move them they went any direction they wanted. I started knitting, lifting very light weights and doing wrist curls once I had more wrist strength. Once I was able to do those things especially knitting(anything that makes the fingers move a lot without straining)my fingers regained function quickly. I had 100% full mobility back by about 4 months. Computer typing would probably not help but I could see gaming being very helpful, cooking(slowly), colouring or shading, piano or any instruments, knitting etc all being super helpful. I really hope this helps. Don’t be too down on yourself, at least it’s covid times so try to just be patient as possible. You will be okay, I promise. If it is still bad at 3 months like it first was go to a neurologist. I saw one and they did a few tests that showed the nerve endings were all still very much alive and going to just take some time. It gave me a lot of peace of mind. I hope I helped, having someone that went through it to tell me what to do would have been a huge help for me... so I hope I am to you! Take care / good luck

      Omg I finally figured out that this is what has happened (Saturday night palsy) to my hand. I'm 29 and I've never heard wrist drop until today and it's nice to know that at least one person out there is dealing with this to. It's been going on about 2 weeks now , I have been trying to avoid going to the hospital and do my own research to help my hand get better on my own. Like you I can't left my fingers either or my entire hand not to mention can hardly hold a drink or pick something tiny up off of the floor. Best of luck to you, I'll pray for both of us.

      I have radial palsy as well. Do to a car accident. I was 6 months pregnant and my drank husband wouldn’t let me drive and we crashed. This happened in Feb 2016. My son is now 4 years old ☺️. Anyways dealing with this is very frustrating since I wasn’t born like this..The humerus bone was broken 3 times so it messed up the radial nerve. A 2 hour surgery turned into an 8hr surgery just because they didn’t want to cut my hand off. Let’s pray we ALL get better. With God EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE ☺️ keep exercising and praying. That’s what I’m doing. My hand is not as bad anymore

    No surgery or trauma, just slept on it wrong. I'm currently at two weeks, I have one of your braces. Should I do these with your brace on or off? Also I have been wearing your brace pretty much 24/7 (occasionally using a little less strong brace for a little less pressure) Whenever I go to switch braces I feel like letting my wrist drop will undo all the healing wearing the brace has done, is that true?

      You're probably going to have pain no matter what. Did your surgeon clear you for PT? They usually send you right away.
      The best thing I did was go get medical massages on my wrist, fingers, arm, and shoulder. Lots of rock hard muscles and scar tissue. The massage is painful but necessary to get movement back.

If you further find out that you need to straighten your arm, our Cubital Tunnel Brace helps keep your elbow extended to a near straight position.
