Thank you so much for these videos. Your videos are very helpful as an OT student. I appreciate that you include physical therapy in your recommendations for treatments of a variety of conditions; however, it would be amazing if you could also mention the importance of occupational therapy in treating these conditions, especially upper extremity conditions. I think OT is often overlooked and it is a vital part of a patient's recovery. Thanks again for everything!
@Sailor Moon No it will not be sudden. Signs of recovery will depend on your habits. I use a computer all the time, so typing and using a mouse has become easier. From a mental perspective, you need to accept the fact this is going to take a long time to heal. Nerves are a bitch if they get bruised. Or if you have a bone fracture in your radial nerve area that is suppressing the nerve, meaning the nerve is bruised. Another sign, which will sound weird, but if you scratch the side of your head with the hurt hand, it should feel really weak, and difficult. Signs of improvement will show that you can do this more normally and with more strength. Cutting fruit is also a sign of improvement if you feel you have more power to cut said fruit, like a lemon or orange. Either Way, assuming the nerve was not severed by a bad cut, or some other trauma you WILL HEAL. Like I said I can finally move my wrist up, and that is the sign to full recovery. I don't have wrist drop, but I am not fully recovered. My hand is still fairly weak. Meaning I could not lift a weight without a wrist splint yet. The bad news, this could take up to six months to heal, the good news you will heal. I like this channel, so I can tell people they are not screwed. When I first went through this, it was scary, so I want to tell people not to freak out. Others on this channel have reported full recovery as well. Hang in there, wear your wrist splint all the time. And try to use your hurt hand as much as possible for normal activities. and I do not advice seeing a doctor anytime soon. I did, because I was scared and they did nothing for me, they did not even know what they were looking at. Then I got slapped with a $3,500 hundred dollar bill for nothing. This heals on it's own. Just get a couple of good wrist splints. And use your hurt hand as much as possible, to a comfortable degree. Last thing I will say, if you have numbness on your thumb, upper hand or anywhere due to the injury, do not worry it goes away. That scared me alot.
@@jasonaquino8232 thank you I have had wrist drop for 7weeks now after a humerus fracture but I have had some minor improvements compared to my first week so that's a good sign...also the burning pain I had in my hand is gone just the tightness and numbness is what I feel around the fingers. I use a splint and I have therapy balls I got off Amazon. My strength is pretty weak though.
Three weeks ago, I had a horrible snowboarding accident that lead to a broken humerus. After a 3.5 hour surgery, I was unable to feel or move my wrist and fingers. The doctor diagnosed it as radial nerve palsy. I’ve been going to physical therapy and doing exercises every day. The feeling and movement in the wrist are slowly coming back, but the fingers… not so much. i can’t make a thumbs up, or extend my fingers at all. It’s been hard, and there’s been some depressing moments. Reading the comments in this section makes me realize that I’m not alone. Just gotta keep working hard and being patient.
Hey Luke, I'm in a similar boat. I fell asleep on a computer chair with the arm rest jammed into my arm pit. I woke up with my right arm feeling numb. I was unable to move my wrist upwards or extend my fingers. Yeah it's been insanely depressing man. It's been a month and I can now extend my fingers. My wrist still has the characteristic "wrist drop". I've been doing physical therapy twice a week. The neurologist is like 3 months out. I have been trying to find an answer online to no avail. How is your hand now? It's been like 7 months since you posted
I'm a week into this passed out at the computer. They have me on steroids and a split. It's very stressful since my work is now limited. Praying we can all give each other night fives and a thumbs up soon.
@@Jointanatomy took 6 months for me to regain use, but i'm 100% recovered now after a serious pinch to my radial nerve. terrifying stuff initially. hoping these words help someone in the same situation! 🙏
hi , I wanted to share my bitter experience. I had suffered from radial nerve palsy after I fell down from my motor bike and broke my right hand humerus. It was in Last august 2014. It was so painful both physically and mentally as doctors have not given any time frame of recovery. I was worried, and thinking what if I can not recover. This video here gave my insight about my injury and the comments the hope to fght back. I had gone through physio therapy for 3 months and finally recovered from it and able to work normally. I even started driving my bike in due course. I really feel grateful for my physio for his help and positive talk. I had to use dynamic cockup splint though it looked very awkward when I was using for typing on keyboard and doing exercise . Advise all the fellow injured to keep your spirits up and believe that you can recover fully from this.
Hi Basav, it can be anywhere between 2 months and 6 months depending on the extent of nerve injury. Also I came to know that one will recover completely even if the nerve is damaged about 70%
Hi Krishna, I have already crossed 4 and 1/2 months, only able to move my wrist up and down (70% compared to healthy hand). But no fingers extension yet. Thanks for your words. Hoping for the complete recovery.
A year ago I had this accident wherein I broke My left Ulna. Two weeks later I got this Radial Nerve palsy. I can't move any of My fingers and at the same time I had this wrist drop. My doctor said I need a surgery to have titanium plate in My broken bone and suggest to have a NERVE EXPLORATION to fix My radial nerve palsy. Months after My surgery I still had this Radial nerve palsy despite of having Nerve Exploration procedure. But with the help of My friend who is a Physical therapist I got My wrist and fingers back to normal. Thank God. 😊
It is controversial subject on whether or not the nerve will recover on its own. After three weeks you should have an EMG (nerve conduction study). If the nerve is not cut, there is a good chance of recovery.
Injury to the radial nerve sucks. I went through surgery on mine in January (5 months ago), I'm finally able to hold my wrist up and minimal extension of my fingers has returned. I'm still praying for full recovery.
i had radial palsy for 6 months after a humerus break, everything has recovered well and this video was highly informative :) I still have numbness inbetween the thumb and index finger but this is nothing compared to having wrist drop etc Hope everyone else recovers well :)
@@MalcolmJ42 yes, I’m on week 17 now and my wrist started to move about a week and a half ago! I couldn’t believe it I thought it would never wake up. No finger movement yet. How about you?

@@fikrihelminugraha I'm sorry, just now seeing this. I used multi B vitamins and electric stimulation EVERY DAY! Mind you, i just severely pinched the nerve, not severed. 6 months later i had a usable wrist and now several years later i am back to 100%.
hey man, how did you find out that it was nerve compression and not nerve damage? I had a surgery 19 days back and got a wrist drop. i can now slightly lift my wrist but no strength on the fingers. Tell me about your experience.
@@alecumihnea hey, by moving my wrist upwards I mean I can move from dropped position to a position that is not a "traffic police stop" sign. Like my hand's upper part is in same position as my forearm with fingers still dropped. Do you think it will heal? I just got back from NCV test and it says my radial nerve is not responsive in my upper limb and forearm. So I'm still worried.
@@zaker.o hi..any improvement ? im so worried ..i got radial nerve palsy 4 weeks back....there is no strength in right arm anf cant move my middle finger...plz tell me yr course of treatment
I just want to say, I'm very happy for everyone's recovery. I too have dropped wrist, from a terrible fall. Trying to keep a positive attitude, but as all have experienced it can get depressing at times. It's been for months and have regained 90% use of my arm back. Still have the dropped wrist. Was in a rehb. For 3 wks., home PT. for 3 wks. and now I've been going to out patient therapy 3x a week 4 1/2 wks. Not much progress on hand. Very minute movement of muscle in my arm. Dr.says it could take up to 9-12 months to get the use of my hand back. I sure hope so. Thank you all for sharing your stories. Best of luck to everyone.
I FULLY RECOVERED FROM SATURDAY NIGHT PALSY! For anyone on this thread, I was diagnosed with Saturday Night Palsy at a hospital. I had fallen asleep with in my office chair with the chair's armrest jammed into my armpit. When I awoke, I felt the tinglyness for about 20-30 minutes before I thought I was having a stroke. I rushed myself to the hospital. I was aggressively trying to find a job as a software engineer. I was doing 3 technical interviews a week, several interiews everyday. I was running myself thin, at my computer, and I fell asleep in the wrong position. That decision lead me to believe that I had lost my arm for good. The first few months my hand were completely useless and it felt that it was going to stay that way. My passion was almost taken from me. I'm not sure what exactly goes on with a Radial Nerve Injury. But I am guessing that the inflammation of the radial nerve blocked the neurological pathway circuit preventing me from using my hand and arm. I had a palsy-like look when trying to use my hand. I type a lot. About a week in I got a Repetitive Stress Injury on my left hand. Basically, the top of my hand hurt from using my left hand solely to type. I was on UA-cam looking up how to type one-handed. I was overcompensating for not having a right hand, on the day of an interview. Most would've done the interview still, but I took it as a reason to reschedule. Health is more important than anything and I was putting coding first. I realized that big time. I was coding all day long, every second I was at the computer. I love programming, but I love my health more.
@@lacascadaobregon Thanks. Mine just happened on the 23rd, overdoing it on my phone in the wheelchair (already have Charcot foot on L and bilat currently-under-control lymphedema), with the armrest jammed against my L bicep. We're talkin' 10h in one position, without so much as a catstretch. Phone. Yup, big lesson learned. I'd give anything to be able to do the offline tedium I hate so much as easily as I did before. Looking forward to recovering. Thanks.
Wanted to share that I got Saturday night palsy. Can initially be scary when you read online it takes months of recovery in even mild cases. Not necessarily true, there is a huge variance in recovery times. For me it took 4 weeks for full recovery. Was dominant hand and I live in China so couldnt eat with chopsticks or cook for a week and a half. But gets better!
Really? I got drunk and fell on my hand..and I may have slept on it wrong..did you have wrist drop? Did you have numbness? I have this. Its been about a month now. A doctor told me I should be ok. But did you see signs of recovery before the 3 months? I know alot of questions...but I want to talk to someone who has actually experienced this....did you just wear a wrsit splint like I am?
@@jasonaquino8232 Hey bro, sh*t happens! lol.. our stories are very similar! 😅 All in all it was 6 months of recovery for me until I could "use" my left hand again.. a few more weeks until it was 100% I started seeing improvements around the 3 month mark. Make sure you take a multi B vitamin! it's no fun, but it WILL get better as long as you just pinched the nerve. Severe pinches may take up to a year to recover fully! Let us know how you're doing!
@@MBE_KB for anyone reading this, YES! you should seek a medical professional! this injury can range from a simple pinch to permanent damage to your nerve. they can run tests to see how your radial nerve is doing.
@@zac3740 Thank you very much for your reply. Its nice to actually talk to someone who has this condition. Doctors don't know anything. In a week or so, I will hit the three month mark. The numbness seems to be going away, but honestly no real improvement yet. Yeah I expect this to take six months at this point. All keep in touch. Thanks again, means a lot.
just an update for anyone else suffering from this condition, i was returned to work full duty on september 1st about 5 months since this happened to me and my arm is at about 95 percent. I have full use of my hand except for a slight weakness when trying to lift heavy things, but overall 5 months was what it took for a "full" recovery.
This just happened to me two weeks ago after waking up in the middle of the night in my computer chair. I have right wrist drop and have gone for CAT scan and MRI. Dr. has scheduled me for an EMG and physical therapy. Your video was extremely informative and I appreciate the time and effort and of course your experience and knowledge. Thank you very much.
damn same exact thinh happened to me! i spoke to a doc on the phone first (cuz COVID) and he told me i had to go to an ER for brain scans or possible nerve/muscle dmg. i saw my co-pay was $150 + $200 deductible, so i was like f***. then i decided to just go to urgent care and surprisngly i saw a doc like 2 hours later. the doc i saw said the same as on the phone and sent me to a specialist. the specialist's nurse gave me x-rays (they say they have to do x-ray before MRI). 2 minutes after my x-ray, the specialist walks in and immediately tells me i have Radial Nerve Pallsy and give me a wrist brace/ splint. The fact that your doc's didn't catch this before you had a CAT & MRI scares me
Anybody watching dis n having doubts keep pushing I made a full recovery frm dis only thing I can say now is my arm get tired real fast then normal, n for the people who freshly broke it keep to ur rehab everyday put ur wrist over a chair n try to lift it everyday u will see progress it may hurt at first dem sharp pains u gon feel frm ur nerves feel like ur arm on fire but keep fighting, it started wit my thumb which came back first then so forth
I got a touch of that Saturday night palsy. Only been about 4 days. Ordered a splint and am doing exercises. Trying to use the affected arm often. It’s also my dominant hand, makes things quite difficult.
If you're watching this and scared, don't worry, you will be fine after a few months. I was watching this video months ago, scared because I drunkenly slept on my arm all night and was unable to move it. First you'll gain the use of your index and thumb, then slowly the rest of your fingers, next is your wrist, and then recovery from there is just strengthening your wrist so you can lift stuff. I had to download a voice-to-text program for my PC.
Thank you i so needed to hear this..my left hand just gave up on me after my son slept on it..im currently in lot of pain medicating..and i just got my thumb&index finger back to be able to grab stuff(2days after injury)..cant brush my hair..struggle to do the simplest thing.. so the fact that you recovered and that is the process gives me hope!

It gets better bro, I recovered from this. I'd recommend getting one of those hand strengthening vice grips that you can squeeze. I did that pretty much every day, and in a month I was pretty much back to where I was before, if not even better.
I had this at the end of january after probably passing out in my own bed after too much alcohol. The first doctor gave me a brace, and told me I would get up to 90% of the functionality back in 6-8 weeks. I think it took 13 weeks. Everyday tasks sure became much more troublesome.
This is the FIRST positive thread I have read concerning my wrist drop! Everything else has told me That I screwed myself. I had left foot drop in one week, which came back fairly quickly, and then complete wrist drop three weeks later. I stopped drinking. This is definitely a sign to stop drinking. I also have set a quit smoking date. But I want to thank you all for at least giving me hope. I'm 6 weeks out with my wrist, and still no function. But at least I now have hope!
You will be fine, unfortunately it could take 6 to 8 months. I am 4 months into this and I am almost there. Regarding drinking, yeah I got this due to hard liquor, the good news is I have not drank hard alcohol since and I don't think I will ever again. Knowing if you get too drunk this can happen to you. So that is a win, kinda glad this happened. I am too scared to drink hard alcohol. Which is good, hard liquor is evil shit. But you could heal faster, I think it really depends on your age. I am older so that is probably why it takes longer. Younger people will heal probably within three months. Hang in there and know you will be ok eventually. Plus just know people who have bad injuries, it is not uncommon it could take almost a year to fully recover. Tiger Woods is out of commision for a year.
After reading the comments, I decided to share my story here: I am currently suffering from a radial nerve palsy after removal of a plate and surgical screws (3 weeks ago) that were placed in my right humerus after it was broken over 4 years ago. I have a wrist drop and can not stretch my fingers properly. MRI showed that the nerve was not severed, but I have seen no improvement over the last 3 weeks. I hope this will get better soon.

@@zaker.o Hey man. As for me, the wrist drop is still present. But I feel that I can move my fingers better and when I am holding my arm in a vertical angle, I am able to lift my wrist up (this works when making a fist but also with my hand opened). All in all, this is some progress, but still a long way to go until my hand works normal again, I guess. I will keep you updated.
@@0047Ak Good to hear that you're having some recovery. Are you taking any therapy like TENS or Electrical Stimulation? The splint I'm wearing, it makes my upper part of my hand ache and numb and also the thumb. Unbearable pain. What kind of a brace/splint are you wearing?
Mine develpoed as a post operative condition following carpal tunnel repair on the radial nerve using a radial axillsry block as anesthia. I woke up in severe pain in the recovery room. My surgeon had already gone and left me in his partners care. I was in so much pain they could not release me from the hospital and it was supposed to be an outpatient procedure. No one seemed to know what was wrong. When my durgeon returned to work he knew immediately what was wrong. The pressure of the wrist drop was pulling on the axillary section of the radial nerve causing severe pain. He orderedca brace to be put under the cast my wrist was in and the pain stopped almost instantly. It took almost a year of intensive therapy to regain 90% use of my hand . There are still certain movements I can't make, like the boy scout salute or counting to 3. This can be a debilitating nerve injury and should be monitored if it doesnt heal after a few days.
Tendon transfer is not the only option. A nerve transfer is an option. Two branches of the median nerve to radial nerve. FDS to ECRB wrist extension, and FCR to PIN finger extension.

i still have sensation over the area of the arm/hand that is controlled by the radial nerve, just no motor function. wrist movement is coming back very slowly. it isn't level with my arm yet, but it does flicker up a little.
In high lesions, such as in fractures of the humerus (particularly mid-shaft fractures where the radial nerve lies in the spiral grove), or due to prolonged tourniquet pressure, there is weakness of the radial extensors of the wrist numbness over the anatomical snuff box. They are also seen in patients who fall asleep with the arm dangling over the back of a chair ('Saturday night palsy').
Im glad to hear this should go away. Been 2 weeks for me now having this problem . I thought it wasnt going back to normal ever. Glad to hear other people have it return to normal. praying mine does too soon!

Hi. It´s been 8½ months since I fell and "did something" to the radialnerve. Just shortly before going into surgery for pancreas cancer. I told the hospital about my issue, but nothing was done at first. It took them about 7 or 8 days to finally take an x-ray and have a doctor helping me. I know from reading on the internet that it´s important to take action as soon as possible or else you will risk malfunction. Well, this happened to my right arm/hand/fingers. I was going through hell healing from the whipple surgery and a right hand not functioning at all! The muscles in my arm disapeared completely and I´m now trying to build up muscles again. The process is real slow and I wonder if I`ll ever succeed. I have partial function of my fingers and can now use a pair of scissors ubt with lots of difficulties. Everything I do is with difficulties….

Hello, just wanna share my experience that everything is gonna be okay! I’ve recovered 95% of my hand 5 months since i broke my arm and i’m waiting for full recovery anytime soon For those who want to know, the sign of your recovery is tingly feeling around your arm and then you can start move you arm slightly little by little by the time pass. Im very lucky since i broke my arm really bad and had spiral fracture in my right arm and had to undergo 4 hours surgery to have internal fixation. My wrist drop gone at 3 months after my accident. One thing for sure, this injury takes a lot of time to heal what you can do is eat healthy, keep the positive mind all the time, do some regular visit to the fisiotherapy! For anyone who have been in the same position as mine and still waiting for the recovery sign, you’ve got this!❤
@@salsabillarivanaisyroq1630 Hey, I'm at 3.5 months since the surgery and wrist drop and can move my wrist up and down, and not sideways and no finger movements. How long after you started moving the wrist you got your finger movements? Also, I had been going for physiotherapy but not going that much any more, because the exercises they have been doing on me I can do it at home myself. The only other thing they do is Muscle Electrical Stimulation. They said this and the exercises are the only treatment options I have. What are the things did you do in your physiotherapy? The exercises they showed me stretches the radial nerve. Do you think it is wise for the damaged radial nerve to be stretched? I mean does it affect the healing process? Also, my doctor said to stop wearing cock up splint which I did. Do you think it will slow the healing process?
@@zaker.o my finger movement are came back earlier than my wrist except my thumb. Sir i had a humerus fracture my radial nerve was stucked in betwwen bone my fingers were not working so doctor told that it needs surgery and plates and screws for broken bone my surgery was done 15 days ago yesterday doctor cutted the fracture but my fingers are still not working
Does the nerve actually recovers by itself? Had an car accident with no fracture but with a radial lesion. What can I do to recover (faster)? Thank you Doc.
3 mths post radial nerve palsy.. wrist drop was my first symptom then numbness on my arm and fingers.. It takes time and recovery process is so slow but never give up.. im gaining my strength back but still 30% to be fully recovered.
Hi, great video presentation. Though my RNP was not caused by a Saturday - night Honeymoon with a Crutch. I would like to know how diabetic neuropathy plays into this condition?
Hands almost healed, I expect full recovery by the end of the month. So about 5 months. Hang in there you will recover. but just to note I ate a lof vitamn C and Multi Vitamns. Tried to eat fairly healthy, I never eat out. Plus I worked out some just lifting weights. You are going to be ok. Wear your wrist splint's and take care of yourself.
@@MalcolmJ42 I use a mouse a lot, I am a computer guy. So within 4 months it started getting easier to use. This is a gradual process, so you won't wake up one day with full recovery. You will also notice a little more strength in the hand. Turning a door knob for example will be easier. But the most important indicator is the wrist drop. Within 4 to 5 months I could hold the wrist straight, but still could not move it up. When that happens you are on your way to the finish line to a full recovery. It took 6 months for a full recovery. For some it could take 3, it may depend on age and health habits, like diet. Protiens help nerve recovery. But no matter what you do, because this is a nerve injury, there is no way to make it a fast recovery. Just wear your wrist splints (get a couple of them) at all times. Shower and sleep with them on as well. DO NOT, let your wrist just be dropped, as it may not heal correctly. If you have numbness on the hand, which was a scary thing, it will go away.. Also know you will heal, this is not permenant. Assuming have a brusied nerve. If the nerve was severed by a knife stab, gun shot, or the hand being crushed. Then surgery may be required. But if you just fell on your hand really hard or slept on it all night due to getting to drunk, then you will be fine. The only bummer is, it takes forever. to heal. Typically 3 to 6 months.
@@jasonaquino8232 Thanks for the detailed reply. I injured my nerve from a humerus fracture and have had the palsy ever since, got surgery a week later that didn't fix it but my doctor saw the nerve and said it was intact. I have taken my brace off a few times but for the most part now I wear it 24/7. It's been 86 days for me. Hoping to see some healing soon. I still have numbness, only been feeling a little bit of tingling up to this point. Your message is encouraging!
@@MalcolmJ42 Yeah 86 days is almost three months, and if you still have full wrist drop and numbness, then you probably have two more months to go before it starts getting better. The fact the nerve is intact means you are in good shape. So most likely full recovery in the next three months. The best advice I have is not to get frustrated about this, and not think about it. That what I had to do, when I had no idea how long it would take. I may have mentioned this, but try and use the hand as normally as possible. The more you use it, you train it back to health faster. But at least you have knowledge of how long this is going to take. I am 99.99% sure you will be fine within three more months.
Dr. Nabil, I can't tell you how relieved I am to have found this site. I am a 27 year old, living in Alaska. I have had radial palsy (sleeping with pressure on the nerve) for over three months. I am getting my fingers back, probably seven out of ten (with exception of the thumb, that's a 2/3), but I have not improved with my wrist. I have medicaid for one more month, more if I can figure out what type of doctor i need to see for help with this that is willing to write a statement....
After four monts I lost the wrist drop. I can move my wrist up now. I imagine I will have a full recovery within the next two months.
Congrats hope I recover soon, what were the signs of recovery or just randomly came back?
Thank you for this information.

Hey Luke,
I'm in a similar boat. It's been like 7 months since you posted

hi , I wanted to share my bitter experience.
How long did it take for complete recovery?
Hi Basav, it can be anywhere between 2 months and 6 months depending on the extent of nerve injury. Also I came to know that one will recover completely even if the nerve is damaged about 70%
Hi Krishna,
I have already crossed 4 and 1/2 months, only able to move my wrist up and down (70% compared to healthy hand). But no fingers extension yet. Thanks for your words. Hoping for the complete recovery.

It is controversial subject on whether or not the nerve will recover on its own. After three weeks you should have an EMG (nerve conduction study). If the nerve is not cut, there is a good chance of recovery.

Looking forward to recovering. Thanks.
Wanted to share that I got Saturday night palsy. Can initially be scary when you read online it takes months of recovery in even mild cases. damn same exact thinh happened to me!
i spoke to a doc on the phone first (cuz COVID) and he told me i had to go to an ER for brain scans or possible nerve/muscle dmg.
i saw my co-pay was $150 + $200 deductible, so i was like f***.
then i decided to just go to urgent care and surprisngly i saw a doc like 2 hours later.
the doc i saw said the same as on the phone and sent me to a specialist.
the specialist's nurse gave me x-rays (they say they have to do x-ray before MRI).
2 minutes after my x-ray, the specialist walks in and immediately tells me i have Radial Nerve Pallsy and give me a wrist brace/ splint.
The fact that your doc's didn't catch this before you had a CAT & MRI scares me

It gets better bro, I recovered from this. I'd recommend getting one of those hand strengthening vice grips that you can squeeze. I did that pretty much every day, and in a month I was pretty much back to where I was before, if not even better.
You should have a EMG nerve studies completed.
I had this at the end of january after probably passing out in my own bed after too much alcohol. The first doctor gave me a brace, and told me I would get up to 90% of the functionality back in 6-8 weeks. I think it took 13 weeks.

Rebecca Lambert so what happened ?

It is not proper to diagnose or treat via the internet. If you can visit Toledo, Oh, I would love to take a look and see what your options are.

I FULLY RECOVERED FROM SATURDAY NIGHT PALSY!!!!!!!!!
I need to put myself first. That's the lesson from all of this.
I have same symptom like you, cannot extend fingers ( it’s been 2month already but sill cannot feel any of strength and movement on my right 5 fingers..) , do you know any other community that i can refer ? Cuz now i’m trying ti find any evidence that it will get heal… and do you know any person who are still suffer from this palsy ?
I am a 31 year old man. I had Saturday Night Palsy. I as so scared. I thought Id never move my hand again. but rejoice guys it does get better! it takes ages yeah. But for me it was only a month and a half. MY doctor said half a year to a year xD. im glad it was only a month and a half. For anyone watching this video if you got it try and take deep breathes and relax. You WILL get full function of your hand.

Hello...i was have buggy acident and i have badly fracture of humerus, they try to restore function with nerve repair but didnt works...Now im going for tendon transfer.
Will tendon transfer give me back good motion of wrist and fingers?
Im guitar player and i relly want my hand back best it could be.thank you all.
Thanks for the reply, glad you're nearly all better. Here's a little tip I found has really helped me since starting it yesterday for anyone suffering from it. Most mobile/cell phones you can set multiple alarms for. Set an alarm every few hours throughout the day and evening to do some wrist exercises and get in to a routine.
I got radial nerve palsy 4 months ago,I immediately started physical therapy 5 times a week and im also taking vitamins B(Neurobion) for the last 2 weeks. I have very small improvements from day one.
I would appreciate if someone would describe their recovery in details. Also thinking about getting a brace after seeing multiple comments about it,so if anyone can reccomend a brace that helped them it would be appreciated. Good luck to anyone going through this 🙂
hello, how is your recovery going, is there any change?
@@kazmyldz5689 I think its a little bit better, but still cant really do anything with it. I cant even put my wrist straight yet.

I’m experiencing this right now, I don’t drink but fell asleep on my desk chair for hours and woke up with a left arm wrist drop and went to the ER the day after Easter. I’m also left handed so hopefully wearing the brace and self therapy helps with recovery.
hey, I’m actually experiencing the same thing, from the same reason. How long did it take you to get better?😢
@@ashleylowe2555 Hey What's going on. Similar story. I woke up with my right arm feeling numb. Went to ER, told it was Saturday Night Palsy. at first, I was unable to move my wrist upwards or extend my fingers. It's been a month and I can now extend my fingers! My wrist still has the characteristic "wrist drop" though. I'm being told that after the nerve decompresses I will see signs of recovery in my wrist.

Hello i have a right hand wrist drop..i fall sleep on a wooden chair home..now its 3weeks i do massage and some excersize..i can up wrist a little bit but finger up i can't..what can i do please??😢
Just sharing my story for anyone freaking out after waking up and not being able to lift their hand. I had all the symptoms (wrist drop, numbness on back of hand, unable to do a thumbs up etc.) after a nap in an awkward position. It hasn't even been two weeks and i have 90% motion back. However, i have very little strength in the hand and it tires quickly. My advice is to use the affected hand as much as possible and get a splint to support your wrist in the early days of recovery. Anyways, it gets better and it may not necessarily take 3-4 months as i kept reading, so don't worry!
Hey bro...i just damaged my radial nerve .. can u suggest me what therapies did u take?
@@rohitsingh4500 sorry to hear that, its a scary experience. I was pretty much 100% recovered after 1 month so did not need physical therapy, just as I said above, trying to lift the hand regularly to help stimulate the nerve. If the damage is minor you will have some movement back after a few days, you just have to wait. Good luck.
Thank you brother. Actually while surgery my nerve got stretched as doctor told.
@@rohitsingh4500 hey man. i guess i had the same issue after surgery. It's going to be 3 weeks since the surgery in two days and right now I can lift the wrist a little but no strenght on the fingers. How long did it take you to recover?

Excellent!!! Wish all teachers were like this
i still have sensation over the area of the arm/hand that is controlled by the radial nerve, just no motor function. wrist movement is coming back very slowly. it isn't level with my arm yet, but it does flicker up a little.
@naomi13jf where is Seychelles
sorry fo the question
In high lesions, such as in fractures of the humerus (particularly mid-shaft fractures where the radial nerve lies in the spiral grove), or due to prolonged tourniquet pressure, there is
weakness of the radial extensors of the wrist
numbness over the anatomical snuff box.
They are also seen in patients who fall asleep with the arm dangling over the back of a chair ('Saturday night palsy').
keep at your therapy, Thanks for sharing

if the wrist extensors recovered then the finger extensors will recover

Hie.. Im sorry this had to happen to you. Hope you recovered and are much better now. As a physical therapy student I'm keen to know your progress and what you think worked well or didn't during your course of treatment.

extensor digitorum longus muscles.
Hello, just wanna share my experience that everything is gonna be okay! I’ve recovered 95% of my hand 5 months since i broke my arm and i’m waiting for full recovery anytime soon
For those who want to know, the sign of your recovery is tingly feeling around your arm and then you can start move you arm slightly little by little by the time pass.

Nothing ;(. You can try vitamins etc. Mine took bit over 11 weeks to heal. It's still not 100% though. It was not fun..
When was the first sign of recovery for you
@@MalcolmJ42 I use a mouse a lot, I am a computer guy.
