My theory: May is the new human astronaut protagonist like Taylor from the original. She speaks and is intelligent. The bad apes hunting her could have more implications other than her being human. We saw apes using electricity in previous trailers and this is set 100's of years after the last one so that knowledge should be lost. Unless an astronaut with such knowledge landed back on earth with the know how and has been forced to toil under evil apes who seek to conquer other settlements via superior tech.
