  • It's time to invest in face-to-face training that empowers employees to have difficult conversations, says Tamekia MizLadi Smith. In a witty, provocative talk, Smith shares a workplace training program called "I'm G.R.A.C.E.D." that will inspire bosses and employees alike to communicate with compassion and respect. Bottom line: always let people know why their work matters.

    This talk is like 10 years too late. They don't collect data with questionnaires and real people. They collect data automatically via web tools, algorithms and machine learning.

      It's still based on people giving up information consciously or otherwise. Her principles of respect, compassion, education and relevance can very well be applied in digital interactions. In my opinion the whole fb fiasco is because their data collection reeked of complete disregard to any of those principles.

The students in both sections of Introduction to Communication class will have an opportunity to watch this because it coincides with Chapter 10: Communication and the Workplace …the lecture I had prepared for today. I hate data collection personally, but if it means better healthcare access in larger minority locations, I’m all for it, income gaps, racism, etc has created some of the highest mortality rates for black, women, children, low income in a ‘developed’ nation. I still hate there is a need for the data collection, but I can understand a need as long as it used to improve services to those who need it.

    • @remyllebeau77
      @remyllebeau77 5 років тому +1

      Can you prove that wealthy black people do not also have higher mortality rates than their white counterparts?

    • @soozb2535
      @soozb2535 5 років тому

      Remy Lebeau. I can not, I can only go on information I have read from reputable resources and medical journals, but I know in general terms there are some genetic diseases that effect more black patients than white, ie sickle cell anemia. Most of the common diseases can be linked to lower incomes, which again linked to racism etc etc blood pressure, diabetes, lung disease......

    • @hawaiian529

      Zsuzsi Bresnahan why care about minorities?

    • @soozb2535
      @soozb2535 5 років тому

      World Traveler I don’t think I care more or less about ‘minorities’ specifically, I care about people as a whole. I care if someone doesn’t have the same access to health care, education or to healthy food like I do. It just so happens that it’s mostly minority’s who are effected. I also think if someone has to ask that question, they need to reevaluate their global humanity.

    My light bill for the month of July was $1200!!! MORE THAN MY RENT!!! My routines haven't changed. When I called to complain about it...all they had were tips on how I should save energy. It's only 2 of us and we're never home. I look up ENERGY online. That's the company, only to find out our bills are surging due to the extremely hot temperatures. If I turn off my units, we'll die in here. The insulation is garbage and our lease won't be up for another year. Even with this crisis, they're still cutting us off on time. They don't seem to be looking into anything to help customers under this pressure. If this is going to be the new norm, we're fkd. Living paycheck to paycheck leaves no room to try and save for a better solution like solar panels. The pressure is making me ill, worried, hopeless. Wont be long before I'm on the sidewalk with a cup of change. The cost of stability is crushing my soul

      I don't know what this has to do with the video. The summer is difficult for everyone and demand does go up drastically during. The company might have different rates depending on time of day which is something to take into consideration. It also sounds like you are in a rental unit; if it is a multifamily check to make sure no one else is taping into your panel. Most utility companies will offer plans were you pay a consistent amount through the year and adjust at the end or quarterly for overages. You can also request them to come out and check the meter to make sure it is giving proper readings.

    • @kennethslayor8177

      ThatAussieGirl These are not "neutral" numbers. They are twisted limitations of category imposed by a racist, sexist, ethnophobic, and theistophobic Left in order to lie and claim they are being scientific. They conflate things that are utterly separate. They use categories that are created in order to create racism. They use non-existent (and will never exist in the human species) sexes as biological facts when they are contrary to all factual biology. They associate color with race when the only functional race definitions for any given deme are haplogroups. There is no collection of data done accurately or correctly. Even if they were forced to collect the data accurately these Leftists would then use any manner of falsification of those numbers to lie in support of a Neo-Marxist Agenda structured through post-Modernist pseudo-intellectualism.
      And while I have never refused to fill out a Census, you inspire me to consider it because the only thing that will happen with the data is nothing justifiable, nothing good, and nothing approaching justice - it will only be used to promote more Leftist racism, sexism, ethnophobia, and theistophobia.
