    Simple yet impactful Kara!
    My biggest take away would be conveying message directly instead of running around the bush. I often find myself in difficult state to convey something negative or a difficult feedback directly to a person and instead try a sugar coated way to present my message. But from now onwards I will make sure to be more direct and assertive :)

      Yes! Sugar coating it only makes it more difficult for you giving the message and for the other person receiving it. Let me know how you go being more direct!

    I think context is important for most people, even when it’s obvious, depending on who you are talking to. For example “I need you here at 9am” makes it personal and authoritative but can rub people the wrong way. 7 out of 10 employees do not trust their supervisor. But rather “I need you here at 9am because as you know we are very busy we don’t have time to always get you up to speed” etc. stating the obvious, but when the person hears it they realize they are letting the team down and that there is a larger picture at stake instead of just being viewed as an unapproachable boss.

      This is a fantastic approach Watts! Give people context or a reason and they're more likely to comply. Thanks for your valuable comment!

    Thanks Kara, you hit the nail on the head for me with regard to not being direct due to the fear of upsetting people, it's my biggest failure. I'm going to take that away and genuinely work on that. Thanks

      That's fantastic Todd. And you're not alone with the fear of upsetting people. It's very common. I'm glad this video helped you get clarity on this.

    Key takeaway is stop asking questions, like 'Could you please arrive earlier?'. Thanks Kara!

    Great content. I normally avoid talking to my manager as I had some past experiences where I was unable to share my views and justification properly. I get scared and become anxious. During conversation I become blank and don't get an idea about what to say or reply in one to one meeting. I really like to run away from the situation instead of facing it.

    • @kararonin
      @kararonin  3 роки тому +2

      That's a common reaction to situations that make us stressed or anxious. Our thoughts get mixed up and we can't communicate clearly. I've found that by facing a weakness and learning techniques in assertiveness, it has helped me become more confident in these situations and communicate clearly. Think of it as personal development. It takes time, but one day, you will be glad you did it. I'm happy you found some ideas in this video. Check out my other ones on assertive communication for help in that area.
