S55 Oil Change DIY - F80 M3 / F82 M4

From a performance perspective, the F80/F82 M cars are no joke. When it comes to regular maintenance (oil changes for example), they're not far off from other I6 BMWs. Today I'll show you how to change the oil in your S55 the correct way with approved methods and specs from BMW.
BMW's Oil Change Interval: ~10k miles
Enthusiast Interval: ~5k miles
S55 Oil Capacity: 6.5L

SAE 0w-30
SAE 5x-30
SAE 0w-40
SAE 5w-40

5w30 for colder weather temps, then 5w40 for spring and summer?? Or am I wrong here! I live in MN so temps get down to 20-30 during fall then it gets put away for the winter!

Yo bro manual says 5w30 on S55 engines. I see that you used 5w40 instead. Have you had any issues? I have a couple mods to my car and wanted to try liqui molly but they only sell 5w40

Updated manual includes 5w-40. Believe it started on 2017

The oil brand doesn’t matter right? As long as it’s SAE 5w-40 oil

Not all brands are created equal. Two popular brands are Motul and Liqui Moly

Drain Plug - 25nm (18ft/lbs) you sure？ I heard 20

20nm for magnesium oil pan (up to 08/31/14). Manual states that Aluminium pan (from 09/01/14) is 25nm

@@tuned_auto I just browsed ISTA, which seems to mean that it is 25Mn if the sealing ring has been replaced, and 20Nm if the sealing ring and screw have been replaced at the same time. I guess

@@lesliecats that makes sense. They recommend replacing the bolt with the magnesium pan. Not Aluminum which 99% of S55s should be.
