  • Often Hindus and others can fall into the trap of being overly cynical about different Gurus. This video explains why we should be careful about passing quick judgements. Identifying a true spiritual Master is not nearly as simple as people think.

@@michie666 Gurus (regardless of personal indiscretions) can be a good option to get Diksha (initiation) which can act as a catalyst for achieving expanded consciousness state or samadhi. Pont is one should not go by morality. We should go by how good gurus are when it comes to the knowledge and explanation of techniques. Diksha or initiation is added bonus which can accelerate your efforts. But still you have to put efforts to understand the correct knowledge and to practice correct techniques.

Beautifully expressed with utmost clarity. As I was listening, I reflected about my own experiences in the spiritual journey. Not all who say they are Gurus truly are. And that's something we need to be crystal clear. There are and have been many who abused their privileged "positions" to satisfy their own narcissistic agendas, to satisfy their own delusional egos. That's why those ones, who are less in number, have damaged the whole Guru tradition. They are less in numbers, but made a great damage. And made a great disservice to humankind. In these days and age I suggest to navigate these murky waters with careful awareness. Because, not everyone who challenges our intellect or makes us question our own lives or principles can be called a Guru. Be careful dear seekers, and remember that in different stages each and every one of us will need different ways to access knowledge. And a Guru is not the only vehicle available to reach the ultimate truth.

@Darren Do you accept Karma or cause and effect which leads to reincarnation (birth/death duality) ? if yes, you understand Vedanta. If no, you are just digesting Vedanta without compromising nicene creed claims like "Jesus", "virgin birth", "son of god" etc.

"A Guru is not the only vehicle available to reach the ultimate truth" well with the amount of information and techniques freely available in books and internet, how to know what is adequate to our specific condition? How to even know what is the ultimate that we should aim for? If I would be released in dense tropical forest with no tools or maps, maybe I would find my way out, but most likely I would get lost or even perish, so in such a scenario I would certainly welcome a guide. The spiritual field is so much vaster than a tropical forest... And an additional point, from my experience, we cannot expect the structure that creates the problem (mind and ego) to also solve it.

Excellent video and a much needed one in this age when people are quick to scandal and pass judgements. And there are some people who deliberately build scandals against some gurus just to bring down their popularity. Even Lord Krishna was regarded as just a Mayavi by stupid ignorant people during His own regime when He lived and walked this Earth. I guess it's difficult for material people to actually come to terms that there's someone who exists far beyond their comprehension!! God Bless you! @Darren Glad YOU found YOUR path just like I did MINE.
I was kinda getting your point a bit(was quite confusing whether you were going to get to the Bhakti tradition) but when you came to the "Holy Spirit" part, it was just like a whole tower of trash cans came tumbling down....Tch the tch and when I discovered you copy pasting the same message above in so many other comments as well, but running away after doing so, I couldn't stop myself from giving you a couple of suggestions that I thought you need to know.
Don't know what you were trying to get at, but if that's a way you're trying to "save people", I'm telling you brother, you have a lot of homework to do.. especially if you're going to try "saving" Hindus who've known what Sanatana Dharma is, all their life(unlike an "ex neo-vedantic Hindu" like yourself), you basically put yourself in a whirlpool there...mmm mmmm mmmmmm Good that you ran away though, that was quite brilliant to escape that way without getting pulled into the powerful current of comments coming your way!!
If you want to try converting Hindus you have to get the sicular ones(yes, I surely spelt that right, being an "ex neo-vedantic Hindu", I'm pretty sure you know who those would be).
Other than that, I have a really serious request to make.. I used to Love Jesus so much.. He was one of my best friends at school(I studied in a convent school).. but of late its becoming increasingly difficult to love Him as much as I used to do just because of people like you who really don't Understand His Teachings. Jesus never really worked towards forming a new religion, it was a bunch of his followers that made that mistake and boy did they misunderstand Him!!. What a great Master He Was!! and they brought His Image crashing to the ground!!. For Heaven's sake or rather for Jesus's sake, stop quoting His " no one reaches the Father except through Me". You and your little minded friends have NO UNDERSTANDING OF JESUS'S PERSPECTIVE WHEN HE REFERRED TO HIMSELF!! He was way above any of your understanding and He Absolutely DID NOT refer to His body as "Me"!! That I'm 100% sure of. I'm sorry.. this really makes me angry every time I hear that phrase and I feel sorry for Jesus. What a let down it must be for Him!! But I'm sure in all His compassion He will forgive you all for your sins against Him because it was due to your ignorance!!
May God who rejoices in reveling as Jesus to you and Krishna to me steer you onwards towards your goal 🙏🙏🙏

Very nicely put! Some years back a friend of mine was visiting a spiritual master and was telling me, that he evaluates the greatness of the Guru by how advanced the closest disciples are. The problem with that is that he mistakens physical closeness with proximity to the Guru, and secondly that he assumed that he actually knew what is being spiritual advanced and therefore could perceive it externally. Both quotes from Shreemad Bhagavatam and from Nisargadatta maharaj shatter that argument. Was missing Dharma Speaks videos!

I'm usually quite impressed by your videos but this one didn't do the trick for me. The Sai Baba glorification was misplaced, he holds no place in Hinduism. The upanishads clearly state that a guru must be well versed in shruti - vedas and upanishads. Chand miya (real name of Shirdi Sai Baba) was neither. Why do Hindus need to turn to cult leaders like Ram Rahim, Osho, Sai Baba, Swaminarain, Ramphal, Sadguru etc when they can follow the traditional smartha, shaiva, vaishnava, shakta dharmacharyas from well established sampradayas and existing mutts. In my opinion these new age type gurus are only interested in looting their followers by asking unreasonable donations and distorting religious texts in the name of 'being innovative or revolutionary'. Usually most of these cults die out anyway after the passing away of their charismatic cult leader. Whereas the genuine sampradayas stand the test of time. To quote jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya "Vedic Dharma is always victorious".

But why no one is not much aware and no one speaks for Hindu's human rights like we saw how initially Bangladesh hindu genocide was ignored but ISKCON raised it's voice but still it was not enough . why Hindu's lack on this means why Hindu's around the world not united ,see how the news and more people around the world get aware if anything wrong happens with other religion people .
But Hindu's don't get any such news what's happening with Hindus living in any other country how many rights do they have ,how many temples were destroyed , how they're shamed, hate speech against them.
why so ? Why no one talks about Hindu phobia on large platforms why Hindu's themselves are never aware about such things .
Pls make video on such topic too . If there is any such organisation which works for Hindu's globally then pls mention it 🙏

A critical piece that you don't address is that the truth expressed in the Vedas is independent of individual personalities. Your video is focusing on deducing from personalities whether a guru is genuine or not. However, because Hinduism is about realizing the truth that is beyond space and time, beyond matter and mind, we don't need to be helplessly tied to the conundrum of trying to seek spiritual enlightenment through an individual personality and hence being subject to the vagaries of individual gurus being real or fake. I disagree with your statement that "the living spiritual master is the bedrock of Hinduism" because again you are making the eternal truth realization dependent on a personality, whom as you yourself say, some may feel a connection with and other may not feel any connection with. The Vedas are the bedrock of Hinduism because they contain the collected wisdom of hundreds of enlightened spiritual masters whose words express the truth that is beyond their individual personalities, and hence we don't feel trapped under the command of one guru's personality or deceived by the discovery of a fraudulent guru. The Vedas have survived intact for thousands of years because thousands of people have realized and validated the same truth as the Vedic rishis by taking guidance of the words of the rishis even when not knowing the rishi personally. Hence, my conclusion is that canonical scriptures that have stood the test of time are the foundation of Hinduism. Any living spiritual master is taken as trustworthy as long as their words teach the same universal truth of the Vedas. There are dozens of gurus who lead disciples astray with frivolous and inessential practices and rituals and fanciful teachings that just go nowhere. The best guru is one who has a solid knowledge of the scriptures and hence will extensively quote from them while teaching the same truths in ways that are contemporaneous to his disciples and the mundane world. The problem with a lot of self-proclaimed gurus is that they gather a cult following based on their charisma or public speaking skills, but they have zero knowledge of scriptures and the core teachings of the Vedas. Such gurus make up their own teachings and create huge institutions and cults.
Also your statements like "He does not fit into a box, he defies all logic and rationale....whatever idea we have of God is obliterated by him.... etc" are quite hyperbolic. Many times, a guru actually strengthens our correct ideas so that our earlier doubts are transformed into convictions. A guru need to "defy all logic and rationale". Etc.
Also, a recurring mistake in your video - "Hiranyakashipor" is incorrect. The correct name is "Hiranyakashipu".

Your position is what I would deem to be the standard orthodox Hindu one. But there are a lot of assumptions you make. The Vedas contain spiritual truths no doubt, but which interpretation will you follow? How do you reconcile all the numerous contradictory statements? Even if you agree with a particular school of Vedanta and thoroughly understand it, does that mean you are enlightened? Ultimately you have no proof that the Vedas are even revelation, someone could argue they are simply a concoction of someone on drugs.
My point is that the true realised Master is one who embodies transcendent realisation- the Guru is living proof that such a state exists. Without the Guru the Vedas are simply a collection of ideas. The proof ends in your own inner revelation. This takes time, maturity, grace and a willingness to sacrifice everything you are. The Vedas cannot give you this, but the true Guru can - if you are willing. He will prepare you step by step. The video stresses that He will often smash many preconceived ideas, but of course He will affirm some.
The Vedas provide general knowledge, but the Guru knows the Dharma of your soul. He knows your karma and the various samskaras holding you back.
I am open to an individual attaining Divine realisation without a Guru, but it is simply naive to believe this is the norm.

In this video you called out Sai Baba in a way that seems very low. I'd love to hear what you have to say about modern gurus like Baba Ramdev who has done great things but is known to have said that he'd decapitate anyone who doesn't recite the Indian version of the pledge of allegiance or Yogi Adiyanath who has been called a very corrupt politician?

I'm not sure 'I called out' Sai Baba. I have tremendous reverence for Him. I am merely pointing out that it is easy to worship His image today, but would have been difficult to recognize His glory while He was in the body. The nature of Masters is that they often conceal their Divinity.
As for Ram Dev and Yogi Adhiyanath I have no real opinion on them. They do not explicitly belong to my tradition and I have no real connection with them.
