It's really sad that so many new movies are sequels to old series... Sometimes not even the original source material ages well, and that is a mess, and thats one of the reasons why I think Berserk is such an amazing story. Even though it started releasing in 89 it still holds up soooo well, and I don't think it will ever age. Maybe you should read it?? Haha idk I just think that it's a very funny and wholesome manga that deserves some recognition hahaha!!! Thanks for the amazing video!!??
I think, as a massive ghostbusters fan since age six (that's going on 11 years), I was psyched to see this movie. And after watching it I was really happy! I liked it a lot! Far more than afterlife in retrospect. The constant smile on my face throughout this movie will remain as I go to watch it again. It made me so happy because it was NEW! it wasn't (and this is my hot take) a complete cash grab. There was passion and characters that were so fun. While this isn't as good as the first two (I got in a fight with a guy on letterboxd who called them mid) It still stands on its own with fun lore and more details. I'm glad it wasn't all nostalgia, and I know Sony sucks (madame web was a beautiful joke) but this movie was its own deal. It's hard for people to like revamped sequels, and it's easy to be cynical - but this movie was fun. Thanks Jake and Nadia! also Jake please do some more book reviews (if you want) because I've loved all your suggestions. Long comment, apologies!
I know this isn’t the movie we’re talking about today, but Ghostbusters 2016 is nowhere near as bad as people say it is. It actually made me genuinely laugh out loud multiple times. It’s not peak cinema, but none of them really are. Wish more people saw it before saying it was bad - but in truth it is just an SNL movie with SNL alum. Go in expecting that answer you’ll be satisfied
I love Ghostbusters but I literally didn’t know it had a direct sequel until I was in my 20s. And that it was slow and bad. As a kid I think I watched some of the cartoon and shared amongst the likes of Scooby Doo and later Danny Phantom there is potential for this niche genre. I think the children who fell in love with Ghostbusters were falling for a product that accidentally became their favorite thing. It was a Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray comedy that was made in an era of filmmaking where making props on a whim were punching well above their weight class. So of course all the gadgets were phenomenal. The visual language of ghostbusters is awesome and it’s somehow an action movie without action stars. In many ways Ghostbusters pioneers what made MCU movies successful. It’s accessible through comedy, the heroes are relatable, the romantic subplot is present but not corny or all that serious, finished off with a big action set piece. The sequels could work if they kept the ghostbusters as slobs vs snobs loved by the working class hated by the NY elite. I never bought into the criticisms of Star Wars being too reliant on nostalgia because it’s foundationally built on nostalgia for Lucas’ childhood. Ghostbusters though is driven by Aykroyds interests in the occult and cryptids. It’s functionally a vehicle for bill murray. Forcing this property to be a Lucas/Spielberg property is revisionist nonsense.
Your opinions on the first new film, afterlife, are extremely similar to contemporary reviews. Audiences loved it, especially all the parts critics thought were weird
Finally watched this movie, I was bored or frustrated the whole time. They didn't give enough time to any plot points and spent so long describing a vilan they themselves call generic rather than fleshing out stuff like the stepfarther thing
Maybe a bit over the top what I will say but I do find it a bit unsettling how the Ghosbuster series got placed into a pedestal by its own fanbase. At least that's how I can understand the whiplash in reception from the 2016 to the Afterlife movies. Although the 2016 movie was a bad attempt for the terrible writing and directing (the had a great cast of comedians and still messed it up!), the movie would have been quickly forgotten like any other nostalgic pandering remake/reboot of the time; as was the trend in the 2010s. But seeing how Afterlife got such a significant reaction from people saying how it pays homage and is a love letter to the original movies made me think that there was something more. I mean, the original movies were nothing more than a comedic romp of just 4 goofy guys who also happen to hunt ghosts. But some how there was such a reverence for them that I think explains that shift from 2016 to Afterlife, audience wise. Unlike many of those other series (mostly from the 80s, as the first go to for a cashgrab at the time) turned into reboots, the Ghostbusters had many, decades long campaings by fans to usher in a 3rd movie. Not that the fans did anything wrong but I do find it interesting that movies that were nothing more than comedies suddenly have this huge reverence as a monumental icon of the 80s like Star Wars was to the 70s. That overhype I do think explains why 2016 movie was panned more than the usual notalgic reboots and why Afterlife had that highly emotive reception
Im with Nadie in this. Frozen Empire was just a mess. I understand Jake's logic but in didnt work for me at all. Arterlife is fine. The boring "stranger things" parts were ok, the ending was horrible but nothing as painful as frozen empire
This movie theme makes more sense when you think of this : The comment section is full of foreign agent bots who accuse the 2001 terrorist attack of never happening in the USA . There are people right now who insist that their grandma did not die from COVID .
Are audiences seriously acting like the video game sequel plot never happened ( and had no influence on future movies ) ? Are you sure that you are fans ? Men In Black series also retconned stuff in the sequels after the cartoons and video games were made.
I haven’t seen a single Ghoul Hunter film but I do enjoy watchin y’all chat and pet your dogs
I really like all of the reviews posted on this channel.

Bro straight up lied as naturally as he breathed.
@@neerajcherukuri4052 I literally don't know what you are talking about. I'm just trying to make someone's day happier. That's all there is to it.
I actually liked afterlife a lot and i teared up at the harold ramis stuff
I actually agree with Jake about both these new films
Agree with both of your points. Maybe the next one will be better? 😮

thanks for watching!
The more I watch these reviews, the more I’m convinced Jake and I are the same person 😂😂

"none of them really are" wtf are you talking about. The first Ghostbusters is pure cinema.
8:38 Ooooh! New Yorks finest firebenders in this? Sold!

Nadiya pretty much summed it up for me. First 2 thirds were torture, but then the last 3rd was entertaining.
Kind of a random off-topic question but did you ever finish rhythm of war?
Finally watched this movie, I was bored or frustrated the whole time. They didn't give enough time to any plot points and spent so long describing a vilan they themselves call generic rather than fleshing out stuff like the stepfarther thing
1. GB

Does anyone else not like being first?
Yea, no comments to read when you're so early
How would I know if a video is good or not?
I always want to have the last word on every argument. I win when my audience loses any interest in responding anymore.
Ghostbusters never needed to be a franchise. I don’t even think the first movie that’s great but it pretty much used up all of the ideas.
This movie theme makes more sense when you think of this : The comment section is full of foreign agent bots who accuse the 2001 terrorist attack of never happening in the USA . There are people right now who insist that their grandma did not die from COVID .
You look like Stephen king
