Mansfield appeared on a talk show with Lou Thesz who probably was 70 at the time, Lou challenged him to a match witch Mansfield respectfully declined.
I honestly thought that CM Punk's praise of Corny's input in the episode on Twitter was a nice touch.

Stossel got what he deserved from Dr. D and Eddie Mansfield was in business for himself not the boys as he claims.
I like how Stossel thought he was uncovering some major scam. I figured out wrestling was a work wnen I was 12 or 13 just from watching it.

As a 12 year old in 1983 I knew it was a work. Tonga Kid jobbing to Roddy Piper when I saw them in Landover, MD. In a real street fight Kid would have kicked Piper's ass. It didn't matter much to me, but I hoped my favorites went over.

It didnt hurt anybody that it was a work 1 and 3 people though it was real compared to the rest that knew it was a work. Cornette says since the 1930's that the cat had been let out of the bag it only took 15 years after for people to get into wrestling again. Stossel is famous for investigative journalism into the tobacco companies and other products along with other things while I get his point for exposing their bull shit wrestling didnt hurt no than the 1/3 that believed it was real and even when vince came out in 1992 that it was choregraphed it still sold well up until like the early 200's. Everyone forgets Raw and Nitro were beating back monday night football when the games were better and it was on ABC.

I’ve never understood why people who don’t care about wrestling always wanted to “expose” it as fake. Same with the guys nowadays who still go “oh that’s fake shit”. Who cares? You try it if it’s so fake. Someone does backflips on an Olympic mat and it’s amazing. Someone posts videos of them doing parkour or something and people comment on how amazing it is. Dress people up as comic book characters in a movie and people think it’s the best thing ever. Have two guys beating the shit out of each other, doing moonsaults, dives, fall off ladders, thru tables, have a 400lb guy do a moonsault and it’s all “fake”.
John Banks I haven't watched wrestling in years. But the wrestlers get fucked up, and no it's not from the fake hits and shit. It's still some kind of athleticism and physically taxing shit to go through. Getting slammed on those mats, jumping off ropes. Trying not to break your fucking neck or getting other injuries.
Yeah the hits are fake, but the hits are a small part of it. If I want to see guys just hit each other in the fucking face I'd watch boxing. And olympic style wrestling is boring as shit, and if it wasn't and if there was and audience for that then why hasn't anyone capitalized on that ever?
When it comes to pro wrestling, and when you say "fake" it's all a matter of what you're specifically talking about. The hits? Yeah fake. The plotlines and conflicts between these guys? Yeah fake, who the fuck but children would be dumb enough to believe that Kane and Undertaker were undead mean from hell or some shit?
Why do you think so many wrestlers turn to painkillers or other drugs and get addicted? When Chris Benoit died they did and autopsy and found that he had the brain of and 80 year old man with alzheimer's. What's fake about that?
So many wrestlers end up fucked for the rest of their life from their time in that ring jump off shit and from moved that don't land how they were supposed to. Stone Cold's neck got fucked up during match with Owen Hart from a botched moved. Again so many of these guys end up fucked for life from injury and I'm not talking kayfabe/storyline injuries, real shit.
Part of the reason WWE is so phony these days is because it went PG, so the wrestlers ham it up way more, and harm reduction because health insurance is so shitty with the WWE.
And it's pretty hard to insure who get in a ring every night and do crazy ass stunts.

If Mansfield really wanted to do it for the boys all the had to do was talk about how low the payoffs were and how there was no union, healthcare etc. Exposing the secrets to that does nothing to help his cause considering real sports and entertainment (S.A.G.) both offer all the things he was btching about.

I'll say this, I'm glad to know the story behind that infamous slap heard around the world. Kayfabe has been dead since at least the 30's, people just don't realize it. Shit there was an Abbot and Costello movie released in 1950 that "killed the business" in the first 20 minutes. The movie even uses Sam Menacker, an actual wrestler at the time.
ForeverRanger 91 ...I recently watched a “The Thin Man” movie from the 30’s which involved wrestling as being a choreographed act.
