No Chairlift needed... | Peak 10 Trail Guide, Breckenridge CO

- We drive up Peak 10 at Breckenridge Ski Resort in a stock Jeep Wrangler JL, Toyota 4Runner, and Nissan Xterra. We drive it so you know what to expect… will we even need 4WD as we try to climb past Breck’s 13,000 feet? The trail takes you past iconic Ski Resort lifts and buildings as you snake your way above beautiful Colorado alpine scenery. This is definitely one of Colorado’s epic off-road trails!
Colorado Mallcrawlers is an off-road/overland channel featuring a railroader and his friends. We love wheeling and making videos! Unfortunately, we are limited on video production due to the insane schedule of the railroader, but our goal is to always publish the best we can. I hear people when they ask us to publish more so I'm definitely trying… and thanks to our new editor Drew Hunter, we might succeed! This Peak 10 video is Drew’s first Mallcrawler edit! Anyway, we'd love to have you as a subscriber as I want to show off all these beautiful trails to more people.

Hope you liked this guide! Hopefully I’m watching this with y’all at the premiere, but if I’m working (on call life, you never know when you’re working), Drew will be around. Let him know what you think of his edit and you’ll see what I think of it in the video. Anyway, really excited to film some new trail guides and make better videos this year! -Dewie
Edit: yes, I know I can’t talk, at least I said it right in the trail videos of chihuahua gulch lol
I just spent a week in Denver and spent one day in Breckenridge. What are the best resources to find the trails? I really wish I would have found this video sooner.
Welcome back! A 95 year-old friend owns a condo in Breck and was a ski instructor for 30 years. He had Bet Midler and family for lessons and got a $500 tip. He was passing fitness tests at 80 years-old that the 20-somethings couldn't pass! Thanks for the adventure!
Thank you and thanks for joining in on the live premiere! That’s awesome… ski instructing was fun, tough financially, but absolutely a blast!
Absolutely great views and professional editing done by Drew! I can't wait to see his editing skills progress and the places you show us next.
Thank you! And hopefully we can have your renegade out again too
Yeah, most impressive was this was his first one with so so footage. I’m looking forward to seeing what he does with Blanca… but I’m still annoyed the camera lost all the narration I did there.
@@Drew.Hunter.Maker.Artist For sure! I will most likely be in my Wrangler next we meet but I would love to get the Renegade on some more trails. Keep up the great work and I hope to ride with you soon!
Hey man, nice to see a new video. I'm the guy who ran into you up by Idaho Springs in the matte black 4runner.
Very cool! Great 4Runner!
AWESOME to see you again Dewie !!!!! Ive done this and its FUN ... This was AWESOME...😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Great to hear from you, thank you!
So glad you have a known person doing the Video editing as he has been in many and likely seen them all! Looked good to me!!
Thank you! I thought he knocked it out and especially since it was his first edit. I gave all of last year’s backlog to him because I think he can exceed what I can do. Now I can focus on learning to host better, film better, plan better. Thanks for being here!
I really like the new "navigation pin" graphics! Great stuff!
Yeah, Drew is quickly mastering DaVinci Resolve! Thanks!
I think it is great that you can actually drive up the ski hill - great views from up top! Looking forward to more content 👍👍
Thank you!
Great stuff drew! But you know I thought that since I was watching along all the edits ! Keep it up!
Thank you! Looking forward to the gear videos coming later this year
@@Drew.Hunter.Maker.Artist well my first one will at least be ready to publish by this weekend . Certainly not perfect but it's not dog shit either lol
Great video Dewie! Good to see another one from you. Lookin real nice
Thanks buddy!
I sure like your videos. I enjoy watching trails with vehicles other than built up Wranglers for a change. I drive a mallcrawler myself, so I really like seeing what other mallcrawlers can do.
My hope is to get the liberty out here and make that my main trail guide vehicle. The wrangler would become my daily and scout vehicle. Thanks for watching!
Drew got my approval. I may have to steal Drew from you 😂
Lol, nah I need him with my schedule 😉
I can’t believe I didn’t see this until now fantastic video
UA-cam doesn’t like erratic uploaders lol. We’re fixing that, but I’m glad it eventually made your feed. Thanks for being here!
welcome back, been a bit. planning a trip to CO in July and will be rewatching a lot of these! keep up the good work.
Thanks! Yeah, my schedule is chaotic and with moving and my mom’s health, there was no way. However, Drew is a great editor and should help us catch up on the backlog of trails filmed.
WooHoo very timely! I am creating my trails to do list for the Leadville +/- 2 hours away 10 day trip in August and this one is now on it!
Awesome to hear!
You must must must get TrailsOffroad All-Access! There's a ton of trails in that area with great guides!
@@WorkFromHomeFriday Thanks!. have had iy for several years --posted a few trail reviews last august!
Really fantastic video - great narrative, very informative, spectacular views. Thanks for making this!
Thank you! Drew did a great job putting it together!
Glad to see new videos hopefully your new editor can help you get more out!
Thank you!
Looks Awesome! I really want to hit this before the snow hits
Definitely do buddy!
Awesome video, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Glad you're back.
Thank you for being here! We’re excited to get into a grove again!
Amazing views up there!
Absolutely!
I’m going to Colorado this August and love these trial guides to see where I should go.
That’s awesome to hear! I’m going to start filming more of Moab’s trails till Colorado dries up.
Nice to see above the Mercury chair. I was there 6/22 and the trail was closed at that point. I also did devils crotch in high school!
Glad we could cover it! Yeah, I definitely didn’t belong on it the first time I did the DC lol
Great video Dewie. On my list.
Thank you! It’s a great one!
Drew did a fantastic job on this video!
I think so too!
Glad to see new content and Drew did a fantastic job. Looking forward to seeing another liberty video soon.
I’ll be editing the next liberty videos, but give me some time as I adjust to camper life.
Great video! I came across it while trying to upload mine. We run this trail every summer. I'm in a stock JKU. I always air down and disconnect. Seems some are opposed to airing down. Someone already mentioned Crystal Lakes is the name of the other trail, but we also did it and Mosquito Pass this past week.
Good stuff!
Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching!
We did this September 2022 and there was no rock stacking on the final switchback which made it nerve racking because there's no room to back up and "try again". I think just driving up to the meadow in the middle is a nice drive if you're not interested in puckering.
Nice! Good perspective!
I ran this trail last year. The views are just stunning! Awesome job on the video and commentary. Great job on the editing Drew! As always I'm looking forward to your next one.
Thanks buddy! I can tell you Drew didn’t have great stuff to work with on this one and I think he nailed it. My goal is now to film the best we’ve ever filmed so he can create some awesome videos!
@@coloradomallcrawlers
If you think he didn’t have a good material to work with, it does not show in the final production. I wish I could have watched it live with you, but I was tied up.
Keep the videos coming door to hard, and I still wave at every train that goes by through Castle Rock Colorado thinking you might be at the helm
We rushed this one as we wanted to film a great one of the forks of the Swan River trails which we filmed immediately after. That’s awesome and I’ve worked that route a few times through the years. However, I transferred to GJ to get some more of Moab documented while we wait for Colorado to thaw out lol. We’ll likely do more lives… I think they’re fun!
@@coloradomallcrawlers
I love the lives. Keep them going. Grand Junction is not that far from Moab, so I’m jealous. You do amazing work, so thank you very much. I appreciate it and I know you have a lot of subscribers that love it too.
Great video. There was another I saw of this trail, and they said the other trail is crystal lake. I'm planning to check them both out in July
Thank you! Good to know, may check it out… I think Sean and I actually did that one before by accident lol
Nice scenery, thanks for sharing. Looks like a fun drive.
It sure is! Thanks for watching!
That trail to the lake is Crystal Lake.
Also have you figured your wheeling schedule for the summer out yet? Curious what trails you guys are planning to hit.
Thanks! Right now, I’m working out of Grand Junction so Moab/Ouray are in our immediate plans. My work is chaotic tho so I may be sent back to front range mid summer. If so, we’ll keep catching up on front and central CO trails
@@coloradomallcrawlers Let me know if you do anything on front range, would love to join you guys with my XJ if timing lines up. Heading to Moab this weekend and hoping to hit up Dome Plateau. Your video for that convinced my buddy that his Ranger Tremor can do it. :D
🍻 from nederland.. hope to join you on a trail run soon🤘
That’d be cool!
I'm surprised there isn't more snow up there.
It was filmed last August… Breck is still open for skiing right now I believe.
Video editing was great!!!! Now let’s find another job that is more predictable 🚂 lol
Lol, sadly, I like my job (I wish I didn’t) and it pays for this channel… I wouldn’t be opposed to working for a tourist railroad (regular schedule) and ski instructing in the winter if I had other income.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I completely agree with you. I like my job too. Luckily I work in a small terminal not many people live near so when a guy left I have been able to hold a regular local job for the past 4years with Friday Saturday off.
Awesome guide, will be useful when I'm in the area this August! I drove just past the dining shack last time (to the gate) but didn't go any further as it was my first time on mountain trails. Will try to do the entire trail this year.
It doesn't seem like a busy trail (I didn't see any cars) and you didn't seem to meet many. However, once you get higher, how often are there spots where you can pass oncoming traffic?
Thanks for the info. Keep up great videos!
Thank you! There’s some spots to pass, but it’s a high mountain trail so they can be limited. You may need to back up or wait for another to back into a spot.
Most of the "crazy switchbacks" have enough room to back up and let someone by.
Man this makes me want to get outside so bad but it just snowed overnight here in Arvada, I'm sure all the trails are in less than ideal condition. 😔 Summer can't get here soon enough.
It’s going to be a late season for these trails this summer! Thanks for watching!
Fourth of July bowl
Ha, right!
As a guy who does the same thing as you and on the south extra board why no invite. Haha
Cool channel bro!
Lol, trying to get two railroaders off at the same time is nearly impossible, but of course, let’s film. I just transferred to GJ though to start covering more of Moab tho… the issue I have is me getting set up, I have no idea where I’ll be when that happens. I’d like to stay in GJ all summer.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I’ll be in Fruita Friday. Gotta get some Hot Tomato. (Pizza joint) Haha THEN Moab Sat-Tues.
Let me know if you want company… I’m currently LX and really need to work, but they lost my medical and are working on finding it. Surprisingly, they actually apologized to me after first threatening 1.6 towards me.
I haven’t had time to do anything with that group. I messaged you my info.
Out of curiosity when did you run this trail? I heard rumors that they permenatly closed the upper gate
Last summer, the date should be noted in the video. It’s just closed due to snow from what I’ve seen on TrailsOffroad. I have not seen anything about a permanent closure.
We ran it 7/28/23. It's a "tradition" for my crew to run up Peak 10, every summer.
Did you air down for this trail?
I don’t believe I did. You don’t need to for this one and I don’t need to air down for comfort, but that’s up to you.
When was this filmed please, thanks.
August 4th, 2022. Sorry, we’ll get that in on future edits if it wasn’t included in this video.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I was gonna say, damn the snow melted fast ha ha ha ha ha ha
@@coloradomallcrawlers ha, it was in the video, I just missed it :(
Great video!!
Luck boxes are fine in the rear, never in the front
He’s making changes this year, but experimenting is part of off-road building in my opinion.
@Dusty Wheeler From my own experience I can only in good conscience recommend lunchbox/mechanical lockers off-road, and this video even demonstrates one of the reasons I will be switching to an e-locker now that I have the means. Even in the rear on road lunchbox lockers can be unpredictable in adverse conditions. Especially since most off-road vehicles are also rear wheel drive where as at least on road my front axle completely disconnects in 2wd. Off road they perform well for the cost in comparison and engage when needed without the added complexity of electronics and hoses that also have more components to fail. It's actually a similar reason why Matt's off-road recovery has given for why he has a Detroit locker in the front and a positraction LSD in the rear of the Bannana and Morrvair. Each option Open, elocker, air-locker, mechanical locker, LSD, and spool have different trade offs and benefits from cost, usability, durability and complexity.
I had a lockrite in the front and lsd in the rear for years. Unstoppable. Just have manual locking hubs to make non-crawling more enjoyable.
