  • Pearl Pass is a Colorado local’s favorite Trail and I’m breaking all the rules by showing it. This is the third segment of what I believe is one of Colorado’s best overland trips, if not the best. Welcome to day 2 as we go from Crested Butte to Ashcroft on the way to Aspen. Day 1 took us to the historic and iconic Crystal Mill then through the Devil’s Punch bowl and up over Schofield Pass. This is Pearl Pass and the most difficult trail of the trip. We have even more water crossings, mud, plenty of rocks to crawl and the best scenery views of the trip. This is the trail to do in 2024 and I’m planning our own return. Yeah, it’s that good of a trail, but it has a short season and sometimes doesn’t open due to snow blockage. Help us keep this gorgeous and incredibly fun Trail open by being the awesome wheelers our community is.

      I meant to put a pinned comment with your info, but instead I’m going to pin your comment. Treks On Wheels provided the 360 degree footage in this video and Garrett makes his 360 videos for those who can’t get on the trail to experience it in full. Definitely check him out and Garrett, thank you for being awesome!

    Great video! My sons and I are planning a trip out to Colorado 2024 in July. We have an overlanding trailer we will be pulling. Is there a website or something that would tell us what trails we can pull a trailer and which to not pull a trailer?

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  5 місяців тому +2

      Thank you! Unfortunately there isn’t, it’s an experience thing in my opinion. I have a very aggressive off-road camper myself (I live in it). We’re planning on redoing this trip in 2024. I want to bring my camper. I’ve dropped it off ledges and taken it places I shouldn’t have, but I think this route would be too sketchy. Colorado trails are dangerous for campers due to rockslides, off camber on cliffs, washouts, snow, etc. The camper is usually best as a basecamp here. Now in moab, I’ll take it on difficult trails. Hope that helps… whatever you do, be careful and have fun!

      @@coloradomallcrawlers What’s your opinion on using a camper trailer as more of a base camp like you mention? Do you prefer to detach your camper and then come back to it for enhanced off road performance or would you rather take it with you? I see the pros and cons of both. I have a Jeep wrangler with a small teardrop camper, but I can’t take it off road. I’m wondering, where do you recommend or typically park your camper as a base camp when doing more technical trails? I’ll find out myself soon enough but learning from those with experience is always helpful. Thanks!

I think I may just buy some with my own money and eat the costs if I can’t get rid of it. Was trying to set up something that people could pick and choose what they got through a bigger UA-camr, but I’m not sure what happened with that.

      I appreciate the love of the videos, and I’m thankful for Drew looking into that. Honestly, I would have believed that I said it a lot… I say a lot of dumb stuff. If you look at older videos, I was always looking for another host. I’m dyslexic and talking has never been something I’m good at. Heck, I couldn’t even say Poughkeepsie so I didn’t use any clips where I was trying to say it in that video. Unfortunately, I couldn’t convince anyone so I’ve been trying to get better. This was shot in 2022, I believe I’ve gotten better this year and I’ll keep working on it.

      I’ve been a tread lightly member since I was driving a brand new TJ. This wasn’t that bad, but when people get on camera, they sometimes get a little overzealous. These guys do more trail cleanup than most, I just don’t show it but maybe I’ll start to stop comments like this.

    • @treksonwheels

      Please keep it mind most of what you see is entertaining highlights. To judge anyone off 10sec snips is a bad look. Nobody here or that I associate with is anything but generally respectful on and off the trail. I myself spend whole days doing trail remediation and rescues.

    • @everymanoffroadadventures6082
      @everymanoffroadadventures6082 5 місяців тому +2

      @coloradomallcrawlers trail cleanup notwithstanding, blasting through water crossings and mud holes ABSOLUTELY causes erosion problems, especially in Colorado/alpine environments. This is not the way.

    • @treksonwheels

      @@everymanoffroadadventures6082 this implies that erosion wouldn't happen naturally, this is a trail outside on a mountain. Your right a jeep going 5mph faster than you like will destroy this environment. Lol thanks for volunteering to go speed check folks on the trail. See you out there.

      I rewatched it, yes, there was some fast water crossings… however clearly you don’t watch our videos. We often wheel pretty slow through Colorado trails, have NEVER gone off trail (thank you TrailsOffroad gps mapping), and have ALWAYS left a camp better than we found it. We wheel more than most so we will screw up sometimes, but we are pretty good here. You caught me in a bad mood so let’s go further. I take exception to comments like this as you’re simply trying to take a holier than you approach. I can guarantee you have screwed up on a trail… anyone who has been doing this for as long will have. As I said, I’ve been a tread lightly member since sometime around 2000 when I first started driving. I don’t like being told to look up something I’ve been financially supporting. I have stay the trail and trail advocates that are my friends who keep me in check. None of the people in my videos are trying to destroy our terrain… we are all Colorado wheelers. I’m also one of the few UA-camrs actually advocating for trails and until recently, I was the only one introducing people to CORE who is deep in the fight to protect trails including from ourselves. If my 11 on and 4 days off actually happens, I’ll be joining CORE on trail repair days as that’s something I’ve done before I was on call 24/7 (not with CORE tho, so I’m excited to see them in action who does it by the book). I hope you’re gonna be doing the same… I’d love to see you at a trail workday!
