I now use "color purple" to mean rehash trauma. Don't "color purple" me, calling it entertainment with song, dance, and a jubilee ending. The first one worked, due to its era, with limited options for casts of color. TODAY, we have options of enlightenment vs trauma dumps.
FINALLY someone else is saying what I have been saying all this time. That maybe the reason THE COLOR PURPLE isn't making money is because there's been a book, a movie, a Broadway musical and a revival of the Broadway musical
I highly agree with you that a remake of this trauma-bound movie wasn't needed! Like you said it's good to not always have roles and movies based on trauma and triggers. Loved your breakdown in this video and it's a shame how hollywood downpays POC actors and actresses smdh.
I’m glad you liked it. 😊 Yes! Trauma-bound movies need to END. POC actors and actresses definitely need more variety. We haven’t been able to see the full extent of what they can do b/c we only get to see POC in “certain” roles. Thanks for watching. 🙌🏾
Thank you! This is why it flopped. We didn’t want to to see this. I’m sure the casts performance is amazing but I’ve watched this 2-3 times in my life. It’s just so filled with trauma/ we are post black panther and black excellence. Wrong generation and the wrong time.
That is exactly right! No one asked for a remake of this movie. I know I had not one bit of interest of spending money to go watch Levi again in the theater. Yes it was a good movie the first time but there are some movies that are best to be made once and let it be… There’s just some movies people feel the original one was so good they don’t want a remake I know I didn’t want to remake of the color purple but I think overhead sinister genders for doing it at this time of all times to do it
Black actors should pool together and start their own ish. This just keeps happening no matter what industry we work in. We should never work with our own people that are a detriment to us. We don’t need them. Since they are paying peanuts anyway, start our own companies and have more stake in these movies and we’ll support it
I enjoyed the film, it mad a less traumatizing feeling. And these are real stories, i hate the idea of ignoring these stories because its real ppl behind it
But why on THIS movie, why not on the other movies, why on a black movie but not a white movie. This wasn’t the FIRST movie that she’s been low balled on, why didn’t she speak out then. She has impacted the other actresses in addition to this movie.
They should never remade Color Purple. Oprah could have made a movie about Sophia kids the 40s and 50s or Nettie how she found Sealy kids another one that could have done was Shug how she end up in her situation that's three movies they could have made
I'm an independent artist, and I'm tired. I tell all of my hired musicians and participants, 'keep this in mind, although you see my name on the Marquee, I'm going home hungry and without a check. So before you start complaining about your pay, keep that in mind.' Yet, I truly enjoy what I do and I'm living my dreams.
Why can’t we get to remaking bad movies with the advantage of hindsight and new tech? Or how about decent movies that were criminally overlooked? If something had to be remade to begin with.
I get where you’re coming from. I thought the original movie and book were very traumatic and could never understand why people would want to sit and watch it especially around the holidays (Thanksgiving or Christmas). But I don’t agree with calling Viola a token.
We didn't need another "Color Purple". However, it was really beautiful to see all of these black actresses work together.

I agree 100%. I also saw it bc my closest family wanted to see it.
I agree too, I didn't need to see a musical of "The Color Purple".
Viola only got $250,000 for the Hunger Games?! That is disrespectful!!! I’m so mad for her

So true I’m definitely tired of that. Enough already!

@@whathappened411 💯💯💖
I agree! The original movie is a classic and should have been left alone.
I saw it once and I barely remember it that's how impressed I was ..
She is a great actor 🥰
actress not actor!

They never get tired of milking the cow!

Taraji, hang in there girl.

I've never seen the original The Color Purple. It never ever interested me.
Yes agree orphan is so wrong

Exactly, the Movie was Traumatic for me, and I never watch these types of Movies
Bet it was O's idea!
HAd to "thumbs up" this one based on the thumbnail title - No One No on- leave well enough alone.
Haha!! Thanks for watching. 😁🙌🏾
Who watches this kind of movie today????? UGH!

Wow! The sacrifice that’s made for the things we’re passionate about. 😩 I can’t begin to understand the amount of work and effort you have put in. 🙌🏾

That’s a really good idea. They really should do these type of remakes. 🙌🏾

Absolutely No One
Oprah dropped the ball on the black community back in the 80s
Yes and should never be trusted ….ever
It’s a specific issue for black women. I don’t think it’s helpful to lump us in with other non white groups.
I did not like the first movie and do not want to see the other
So why the fuck we could make the color purple make a profit.
