XTC filled the gap that my fervent dislike of the Beatles left in me.I not only prefer XTC, but know that musically and as human beings, leave the fab four in the dustbin where they belong, being the most over rated band of all time.there I said it .

@@bradsmith7311Oh im so glad you said it !
Ive been saying it for the last 40 odd yrs but those who are so absorbed with that other band , and the likes of the Smiths, U2 2 other bands i think were overated won't have it !
XTC had more musical genius than the three put together . One of Britians finest 👑.
I'll finish by declaring the beatles new single is a pile of💩 Ive said it to my friend 👍

Todd Rungren said Andy Partrige was the worst musician he ever worked with. I met Todd at IU. I never asked him that but Skylarking is possibly the greatest produced album since Pet Sounds.

Todd is probably one of the more bombastic musicians around. I like a lot of his music over the years but I think he's a jerk. I can imagine him and AP clashing.

A lie for a lie, but a truth for the truth
Church of women is made out of milk
Which their love turns to butter
Church of women will have you give praise
With a laugh, bark and stutter
Like us men like us men
They are nothing like us men
Men have gargoyles 'round their hearts
I'm on my knees but dancing
Want to worship at the church of women
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women
Church of women is making donations of loving and giving
(Church of women is making donations of loving and giving)
Church of women performing that miracle raising the living
(Church of women performing that miracle raising the living)
Like us men like us men
Will they ever like us men?
Men have thorns around their minds
    I'm on my mountain preaching
Want to worship at the church of women
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women
Lie for a lie, but a truth for the truth
Give 'em back their house, the walls, the doors, the floors and roof
And stop tryin' to diet on the wafers and wine and submit we're in control
    Now let's put things right
Let's multiply the loves and kisses
'Til we have enough to love and eat forever
Want to worship at the church of women
(I want to worship at the church of women now)
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
(I'll breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning 'round)
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women
(Worship at the church of women)
Want to worship at the church of women
(I want to worship at the church of women now)
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
(I'll breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning 'round)
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women
(Worship at the church of women)
Want to worship at the church of women
(I want to worship at the church of women now)
Breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning around
(I'll breathe 'em in until my head goes spinning 'round)
Want to worship at the church
Let me worship at the church of women
(Worship at the church of women)

I've always admired his playing. A brilliant lyricist as well. "The Man Who Murdered Love" is just another example. I was actually really pleased to see Rick Beato do a video on their song "Mayor Of Simpleton". He breaks it all down so that you can understand why it's so ingenious (even had a tough time on one of the chords!). It just helps me look and listen deeper ~ understand exactly how their unique sound made them so special.

I think it's one of the better tunes on the disc and I love the beginning with 'Holly's made-in-Rumania' guitar and then the clattering drums and bass coming in. What spoils it for me is a kind of right-on-ness, the demonising of men and the across the board praise of women. Men don't have 'thorns around their hearts' in the main, though they are in general less outwardly emotional - and some women do.

    • @Taumpy
      @Taumpy 3 роки тому +1

@@kallek919 1) there’s lot of women who can’t carry a baby. 2) sperm is necessary too.
I can see where Andy was coming from, but the message that men are inherently less feeling/caring than women, and vice verse actually is a pretty bad message.
Lots of us do have gargoyles around our hearts and thorns around our minds. But we weren’t born with them. Society and our parents (including mom, sometimes) put them there. There’s a lot of work to do there, and it’s as useless to accomplish it pretending women are above us as it was to pretend women are below.
No one is free until everyone is.

    • @kallek919
      @kallek919 3 роки тому +1

@ Tom Martell: It feels like your argument is faltering and getting lost a bit.
What I am just humbly pointing out is that without women, no children could be born, including yourself and the person who wrote the original post.
That’s a fact and it was not more complicated than that.

    • @Taumpy
      @Taumpy 3 роки тому +1

@@kallek919 If that's actually all you were saying, that kind of implies you think Rhys is suggesting Andy's message is "women are necessary" and he thinks that's bad.
Otherwise your contribution is kind of a non-sequitur.
