You might not believe this, but I have been saving wasp star for years. I love the band and because they don't realise just how special they are, I have to play one song every few months because the terrible sadness is that there may be no more. It is all very well being good on their own, but when they are all together they are great. Really great.I have been listening to XTC since I saw them on TV doing 'Science Friction' in 1977. Or was it 'Statue of Liberty'? I can't remember now.Tremendous
if dave and colin would just get on the right medication, a real effin' reunion could happen! but they have their free will, and to be fair, they deserve to live out their lives however they feel is most convenient, or tranquil or whatever... they served many years, under our dear mr. x, as well as tc, or whoever else was on drums, ahaha!!
I was stupidly unhappy about and mad that this was their last album, so I locked it away for years. I disliked it and thought it too “slick”. Now that I’ve dusted it off and I’m listening to it with a new perspective, this is a gem of a record with some great songs, performances and production. I’m still unhappy about this being the end, but I no longer punish myself by not listening to it.
In love with XTC since discovering them at Drums and Wires. Own everything they have released now. Their compositions, lyrics, musicality and quirkiness are legendary. In my top Five most revered artists. When I pass, I want XTC playing at my celebration of life. They could start with ‘Wrapped in Grey’.
Its the first time I've heard this. its great. And I go back, Saw them at the California Hall, in San Francisco, somewhere in October of 1980. It was me, and a friend, and about 150 other fans. You just had to be there.
And every morning before I'm awake I walk around the world to make sure she's alright And every evening 'fore I bolt the door I give the stars a stir to make sure they will spin all night For I see people who will scratch and spit and kick and fight And I see nations war about whether right is left and whether wrong is right And I know storms inside your head can amplify the blight But no matter what the weather, you and the clouds will still be beautiful No matter what the weather, you and the clouds will still be beautiful And every Troy with wooden horse I take to peaceful waters but can't make him drown And every Bastille that gets stormtroopered "Hail to the Chief" comes rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin' down And I've seen people conduct lightning down to a summer's day And I've seen nations playfully hurl snowballs packed with stones and clay And I know rain inside your head can seriously put a stop to play But no matter what the weather, you and the clouds will still be beautiful No matter what the weather, you and the clouds will still be beautiful So let it rain And when we see flying saucers, flying cups, and flying plates And as we trip down lover's lane we sometimes bump into the gate And I know thunder in your head can still reverberate But no matter what the weather, you and the clouds will still be beautiful No matter what the weather, you and the clouds will still be beautiful No matter what the weather Yeah So let it rain So let it rain You know you still be beautiful So let it rain It doesn't matter what the weather you know you're beautiful Just let it rain You're just, you're beautiful So let it rain Yeah, since the clouds all part the clouds just rose So let it rain From your pretty little mouth to your pretty little nose you're beautiful So let it rain It doesn't matter if the rain wants to fail if the rain wants to fall Just let it rain So let it rain So let it rain
"So let it raiiiin... So let it raiiin..." my brain has an orgasm each time I hear Colin sing that down tune line. " that bossa nova ending is incredible.

Not that Dave's solos were bad, but I often preferred Andy's more 'emotional' solos to Dave's more 'technical' playing...depending on the song. The dual at the end of "Books are Burning" really shows the difference between them.
@xnonsuchx Agreed, but for me it's the mind-stretching harmony on the last line of 'No matter what the weather-er' - blimming miraclious! Sounds like he had real fun recording this one.
Again - the best XTC album since Apple Venus Vol. I and before that, Nonesuch...all you critics better strap your headphones on and figure it out...if you want to criticize, then run for Washington Politic...;) The Mace
The most underrated band ever.
underrated by the mainstream
Agreed! Can't wait for them to go from underrated to rated
cant get enough....genius
Absolutely,.
@@gergsar Exactly! It's hardly as if they couldn't have been more commercial if they'd chosen to be so. Exceptionally gifted.
Some smashing tunes on the wasp star albums. They deserved better treatment from us all
They're just getting very little exposure these days! Shockingly.
@@steelyman08 The hit parade has always been a reflection of the herd instinct anyway.
@@steelyman08 I think some of this is because they aren't on streaming unlike other XTC albums.
This album is a masterpiece.
Those who downvote, I condemn you to a life of nothing but the entire Nickelback catalog to listen to.
LoL. An evil and torturous demise!
Hilarious!! Thanks for the chuckle! Nickleback lol!
Nickelback are like the James Corden of rock
One of the rare songsmiths who can cram 2 songs worth of lyrics into one song and make it sound flawless.
I get you
What a lovely explosion of earnest romantic feelings. The whole song feels like a blooming tropical flower.

That drum fill at the intro is diabolical lol
Chuck Sabo.

I discovered them at Drums and Wires in 79 as well. Then went back for Go2 and White Music
Agreed. I went through the 80s ignoring them apart from plans, and now appreciate them 40 years later.
My missus has had to put up with my obsession with XTC..I always think of her when I listen to this track, and 'Then She Appeared' from Nonsuch.
I hope you're still together. Just appreciate every moment/
@@tropenator you sound a little concerned! i shan't ask!
they have lots of female hero songs. I love them since the early 80s.
@@tropenator Still together today....she has had to listen to a lot of XTC :)
My other half commented just the other day "Can we have something other than XTC? I've heard them enough now" There's no such thing as enough XTC!
One of my favorite tunes. There was a lot of bad 80's music. XTC wasn't guilty of making any. Miss them.
I'm Stupidly Happy listening to this song. Simply one of the best bands ever!!
First saw XTC at Rafters in Manchester in 1978.fantastic then and just better and better must rank alongside Lennon and Mccartney and Mozart!
Fan since English Settlement!
XTC in 2022
Such creative song writing. Loved XTC since the 80's.
yes! me too!

terry hall would have loved to be there my top group
Plus they performed one of my all-time favorites "Roads girdle the Globe" Fantastic!
How did you find the time Terry...weren't you fronting the Specials :)
The 'clang' guitar sound after "reverberate" is freaking amazing and shows how much attention to detail they have (es. Andy).
sure, sure, but i mean, anyone can make a 'clang' sound, i need to listen again anyway! i can make 'clangs' like you wouldn't believe! haha!
I love this album so much. One of their greatest IMO. Then they broke up. The writing was on the wall when Dave left. The music will live on.

It's Chuck Sabo on drums here. Mastelotto played on Oranges and Lemons.
Unbelievably excellent on so many levels.
One of Partridge's greatest ever compositions.
A master of songwriting.
Great song to have "stuck" in my head all today! Singing bits and pieces randomly and receiving odd looks. lol!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhh,so brilliant. As I get older they sound better.
Don't they just.
So many hooks in this song...great pop music

An instant fav by XTC. Could leave this on repeat for hours...
+wozniack Yes!
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ there arent enough.. how truely great...
another brilliant track by XTC quality
no matter what.
It is the great Chuck Sabo on drums on this track, my wife's uncle!
so tight! a real Maestro
wow, cool! they have always had the best possible drummer, it seems!
Not that Dave's solos were bad, but I often preferred Andy's more 'emotional' solos to Dave's more 'technical' playing...depending on the song. The dual at the end of "Books are Burning" really shows the difference between them.
There is nothing that Mr. Partridge couldn't have played on the guitar . . . or better.
That would be my drum teacher, Chuck Sabo :)
@xnonsuchx Agreed, but for me it's the mind-stretching harmony on the last line of 'No matter what the weather-er' - blimming miraclious!

XTC beautiful genius
for sure both the lennon and McCartney of the new wave generation. Melodies like Paul's and words like John's. God's all three!!

Agreed!!!!
Brilliant ! Love the entire album : )
greetings from usa my italian friend
@sabbeyk
Yes! Andy (and Colin?) never compromises on drummers/drumming.
In response to "sabbeyk" I believe Pat Mastelloto plays on that album. Yes indeed a great drummer.
XTc Partridge n -Moulding were Magic
nice song😉
Amazing!!
Du', let the song completely fade out !! 😳
Chuck Sabo does the drum.
influenced by steely dan /donald fagan especially the chorus
that coda!
I like the version on the "Homegrown" cd much better!
Respect ;o)
No need to categorize. Just play it again...
Anyone know why this album is so scarce? The CD is like $100 on Amazon.
I paid $3 on eBay and I felt guilty as hell for ripping off the band.
You can usually find this in used CDs stores for around$5 which is insane.Sadly their last cd of new material.
A lesser tune from a lesser album, but still miles ahead of the Sea of Swill that has permiated the pop world for the last 25 odd years.
Hippo love that -sea of swill would make a great band name!
c h u c k s a b o
Fucking genius.
My ears are fistbumping my brain.
@KaitainCPS ¿Which is not?
"Err."
Oh to be able and gifted to write like Andy does. Sighhhh
What's with the EEeh ?? 🤣
Uhhh
Err
A hangover from his punk days when he would do random yelps.
Hell yes xtc gods overlooking a universe of stupid music. They even make the Beatles sound like amateurs.
Not crazy about this one as much because it sounds too much like Sting.
What sounds like sting?
