    The conflict here humanizes imperial officers; he never could have imagined an order for decimating thousands upon thousands of their troops in battle, and he knows the empire is capable of better military decisions. even the gunners were in disbelief.

    Jerjerrod was as dumb as Motti. Why not just tell Vader "Sorry, sir, the Emperor has left orders not to be disturbed." Vader would have just walked off and waited until summoned. Instead, he tells a *Sith Lord* essentially to piss off, and then acts surprised when he decides to strangle his dumb ass instead?

      No it's not the same. It's the emperor prioritizing the destruction of Luke's inner circle. The rebellion was always a problem for the emperor, but nothing like when Luke showed up. He naturally wanted the fleet destroyed too, but he knew Luke and friends would still be able to manage without a fleet more than the fleet could manage without Luke and his friends.
      Also, the first death star was never ordered to waste friendly units like the 2nd one was. Not the same at all.

      @@csmith3248 I love this scene because people often mistakenly think that Vader's authority was unchallengeable simply because of his power and his status as apprentice to the Emperor. Yes, he was highly ranked but even he feared Palpatine and dared not stand against him. He was an instrument of the Emperor's will and existed only to serve, nothing more. This is further emphasized in his dialog with Luke: "You don't know the power of the Dark Side. I *must* obey my master." Vader wasn't talking about the power the Dark Side gave him. He was talking about the power it had *over* him. He had become a puppet and no longer in control of his own destiny.

    • @csmith3248
      @csmith3248 2 місяці тому +2

      @
      Even in episode 4 you can see the authority Grand Moth Tarkin had, even Vader couldn’t really speak against Tarkin because of the special position he has
      Even though Vader is the emperor’s apprentice that alone didn’t give Vader the highest military rank, there were times mentioned in the comics and novels where the emperor put Vader in other imperial officers commands and there were times were Vader would be brutally punished by the emperor for disobeying orders
      The emperor became the most powerful man in the galaxy not because he was a Sith Lord only, because he understood the galactic politics and military structures and used it to manipulate the galaxy to fall into his palm, the emperor also valued some military leaders who were influential and served the empire
      Darth Vader on the other hand only believes power is from the force and dismissed technology and officers knowledge and talents, hence why the emperor had to always put Vader in check

  • @sergiogumer181
    @sergiogumer181 2 місяці тому

    In other words, there was a rupture between them all. Something much more complex and adult. The simplification of the 'official' ending of Return of the Jedi made it easier for children, but with these developments of whether or not to destroy the moon of Endor and the officer's own conflict, besides his rivalry with Darth Vader, it created a very good environment for this film to address deeper themes, such as the army itself and its position with the Empire. Would they start a revolution against the emperor? I think so. There was no need for the rebels so much. It was just starting...
    I thought it was great to know a little more. It's a shame it wasn't explored, but in any case I loved the 1983 film.
