Eiichiro Oda wrote in a letter about his involvement and how many of the scenes were reshot later as the actors became more cohesive. He said he knows there will be some differences but that it still works cohesively and he knows that there will be people that aren't happy about changes but that it just comes from a place of love for his work. I think thats a very realistic and positive way to think about such an adaptation for live action.

    • @ForestSen

Considering nothing can be 100% adapted from one media to another it makes sense. There is a reason each media exists. You can do certain things in movies, tv shows, books, comics and manga that you can’t do in the others. Changes should always be expected when translating from one media to another. Things you couldn’t do in a book or manga but can in a tv show should be added. Things you could do in a book but not a tv show should be removed. As long as the heart of the story is the same and you do your best to make sure your not ruining what your adapting. I’m not expecting a shot by shot. I’m expecting some things to be left out or changed. I’m also expecting we might get some things not in the manga that Oda got to add it in because he either thought of it after doing the manga/anime or because it translates better in live action than in manga or anime form. I’m not expecting it to be better than the OG. But I am expecting the feelings I got watching the OG to be similar. At least that’s my hopes for this.

@@ForestSen True, I see some of this in the way they decided to make Arlong look. Arlong, like many other characters has a very oversized body compared to a normal person. Trying to get close to that without using any cgi is probably impossible. Of course they may have a slightly better chance if one of the strongest men in the world suddenly became a talented actor but otherwise it will always look abit off. My guess is that any character with weird/huge body's will probably not be the best lookalike. It's a shame but i can fully accept why they will look weird.

Oda created one piece for people to enjoy, laugh and cry at their homes. And since these actors said that they're recreating a live action of one piece out of love and respect of Oda's work. I was skeptical they'd ruin it, but thank god they didn't disappoint. (Tho I don't like one piece in English dub😂)

Regarding Arlong not looking buff and many fans' complaints about the live-action version looking too weak, this direction is a better story wise , especially regarding future arcs like Sabaody Archipelago and fishermen island. Arlong is a fallen fishermen pirate who's been mooching off Coco village for the past 10 years while enjoying his retired life and terrorizing the weak. Him not being buff and instead washed-up and skinny fits the narrative of someone who hasn't faced a serious opponent since his days with the sun pirates. @@vincenthammons-kd9du anime and manga are too exaggerated, where in a real life setting its either edgy or cringe and one of the most said criticism about the teaser and trailer is how goofy the anime and manga is in live action because a fantasy anime like one piece is not meant for live action but the fact that something that is nearly impossible to adapt to live action has CGI that looks somwhat bearable and edible is very promising. Take jojo or any other anime with a sense of weirdness to it and take one of its most goofy character and do a line/pose/cosplay in the open in public while saying his catchphrases or lines from the show, sounds cringe right? If that doesnt convince you then imagine a 14 year old on a zenitsu cosplay walking up to you then leaning forward then saying "Thunder breathing: first form" in public, now thats gotta be cringe. Thats because anime like i said is exaggerated in terms of design and personality. The only out of character thing ive felt so far from the anime and trailer is luffy's change in humour and zoro's colder personality which he only got after timeskip since at the early days of strawhat crew he was either laughing, fighting, drinking sake, or sleeping, other than that nami's assertiveness can be seen, zoro's loyalty, we didnt get to see much of ussop, and sanji and zoro's dynamic of one-upping each other is still very much there. Give him fur that actually makes it look like a living creature, while the face is the same one from the manga and anime, with probably just a few tweaks to the eyes and mouth to make it fit with the fur.

You can barely tell what's going on when the hulk is fighting those dogs and have zero clue what's going on in the last fight against his father. It also lessens the immersion for the viewer. Based on the episode titles it seems we're going up until Reverse Mountain. Also in the manga there were no Fishman on Baratie, and we see Sanji fighting one on the Baratie + Arlong kicking Luffy out of the Baratie so it seems like they're probably cutting Don Krieg out of the live action and instead using that time to build up Arlong a bit more. Makes sense since they have a lot of ground to cover and in the grand scheme of things Arlong has a much larger impact on the series than Don Krieg.
We also see Garp here so I'm curious if they're going to be taking more time to show Koby (and helmeppo if he's even in this?) training with Garp, or if he's purely just going to be briefly seen now and not properly introduced / revealed until much later like in the manga.

It'll be interesting to see when.

@@Nollis Sure but he might just be there with his fleet approaching, only for Mihawk to wipe them out as his introduction, and all the conflict with the Strawhats removed.
They did cut down the amount of episodes, so I fee like Krieg was one of the parts that was ultimately cut. Won't be upset if I'm wrong, but that's the impression I get from the trailer.

I know some people might find Arlong weird, me too. But at least I’m okay with that so far, they try to use practical as close as possible to the character & I appreciate that. I & maybe some people hope he got Hulk or Thanos treatment for bulky looks but this is only the first season their trial & error season to look how good it would be received by the fans. I hope it turns out good and if they make another season let’s hope they make a better one because there will be a lot more big & bulky characters in future

There’s a few things I noticed where they seem to be condensing/altering the story. Arlong shows up at the Baratie and Buggy’s tent which has me thinking that Arlong may be introduced sooner to establish him as the big bad of the entire season. Nami also appears to be present at the fight at Arlong park. The ‘Help Me’ scene is at night but the fight is during the day.

Honestly I've always thought of Shanks as this plain, mundane dude that most people would dismiss at first glance without realizing he can stand on equal terms with the likes of Whitebeard and Kaido, so I kinda like that direction with him
Arlong though yeah, he definitely looks pretty goofy and underwhelming here. Of course, I will take the fact that this is my worst criticism of what I've seen so far from these trailers as a sign that the series will be at least watchable

    • @norasyikinali6283

The only thing that's striking on Shanks is his hair. He looks literally like a normal guy otherwise. Even his ship is normal compared to everyone else's. He's not even a Devil Fruit user.
And that's why he's so fucking terrifying.
The Marines know exactly where most of the Emperors are, EXCEPT for the Red-Haired Pirates. Man traipsed around the East Blue, stayed for days at a small island which is also a Marine Vice Admiral's hometown island and nobody noticed. Not even the Vice Admiral himself. Even him showing up at the Marineford during the Ace rescue attempt is shocking. He's practically a ghost in the seas.

    Reasons
    1) unlike ither anime live action this is a tv series not movie ( so they dont have to adapt a huge part of anime within 2 hours)
    2) i think they choose thw right cast
    3) i think they have the right budget
    4) i think they sticked more to the source material
    5) this is just me its like they made it realistic and also with anime effects or vibe
    6) And i believe this will have good pacing
I dont think it wiol be a huge success but i think the chance of it being a suc sw is high

I don't think bringing Chopper to the show is as difficult as some people think it might be.
Chopper in the manga and anime is usually in his hybrid from, which is that cute little form.
All they have to do is to cast a kid, put him in a suit and cover his face with some prosthetics.
Same thing with his full human form, but with an adult actor.
Obviously some CGI will have to be used for his rumble ball forms.
and I agree, the trailer was great!
I really hope that the show will be good.

I will say with Oda being so heavily involved compared to others? This has the best chance of being an at least DECENT live action anime adaptation....if it pans out and they see working WITH the creator instead of hiring people who think THEY know better...might get some good stuff...but animation is really difficult to bring to live action, the other way around is much easier.

It honestly just seems that Arlongs head and prosthetics give the body impression of a bigger head in comparison to the body, his stature makes the clothing look loose and droopy, where his trap muscles aren’t as large, and while he’s tall, he doesn’t fill out as much as you’d expect, still I think the look won’t detract from the character portrayal

  • @lolroflundxd
    @lolroflundxd Рік тому +13

I think it will atleast be endearing. I like that they are leaning into the goofyness. Because that's a core part of one piece.
Lot's of fans forget how some characters were in the beginning. For example Shanks looked more like a normal dad in the beginning. Only later in the manga does he have the enormous neck, and the more alpha face. Buggy was supposed to be scary and unhinged in his first introduction. He quickly became goofy, but the joke WAS that he appeared scary from the shadows.
In general, a lot of people are arguing you can't keep it one to one with the manga. I only partially agree. For example the character designs are a good compromise.
I feel the real thing other adaptations mess up, is changing core character interactions/motivations. Changing the message of the story.
