as a non-One Piece fan, i can confirm that watching the live action has made me interested in the world of One Piece.
Don't be afraid to watch a recap or skip some episodes in the earlier seasons - life is to precious to waste it on filler.
now that your done with the live action u should read/watch the anime its the most succesful for manga of all time for a reason
Avoid the filler episodes because it's not in the manga anyway
@@lupolinar Considering how the anime got almost No filler, your statement is as nonsensical as it gets.
@@kamixakadio2441but there is still filler, not as many as Borutort or Bleach but still ...
The best part of Buggy in this adaption is that he is scary, a villain, and then finally a clown. The transition from being a villain to comedic relief is believable and accepted. Haven't heard anybody complain that they build him up as a cruel, scary captain that destroyed a town and trapped the citizens to someone that ran from a fight from a bigger baddie.
It's literally the same approach as in the manga and anime, he is actually a threat when first introduced. Blowing up a town, capturing Luffy, zoro being unable to hurt him. It's just been so long that people have forgotten
The Manga did it well too
you definitely forgot the manga/anime.. he did the same thing bro.
true, non Onepiece fans will think Buggy is another Joker before watching Onepiece but after watching it Buggy is Buggy he is one of a kind
he also has the villain rizz
My 52 year old mother watched the Live action and enjoyed it so much that she's now started the anime. She's on episode 31 now and still going

Might she get a kick out the manga as well?...Considering reading can usually be done quicker than watching.

I heard Oda's intention was to get fans who wouldn't be into One Piece originally as an anime/manga, interested in the series. I can say with confidence it worked with myself and multiple people I know. I didn't realise how much I'd love the story I didn't think I'd ever start watching the anime and yet now I'm so invested in the characters and the story, I've started.
W
But its not one piece. One piece is a worldwide hit manga made by oda.
Same here
@@RocketLuffy64 again, it's an ADAPTATION of the series, in which Oda himself supervised the whole production from the start till the end. and any executive changes that the production wanted to do had to go through the man himself so that the essence of the one piece that every fan is familiar with is still there, despite some scenes or characters that didn't make the cut because of several factors. It is impossible to expect it to be 100% true to the material, and Oda himself knows that. it's a series that is targeted at non-manga or non-anime consumers, but at the same time a series that could be enjoyed by all various types of people who are interested in it's storyline.
Same here. Just finished Baratie in the anime.
So far, I'm gaining a deeper appreciation for the live actions thoughtful adaptation.
While each arc had some story beats I wish were included, I think the live action did a great job in capturing the most important aspects of each story it covered so far in the context it aims for.
All arguments to the contrary aside, it was enough to finally get me excited about One Piece, which is an accomplishment in itself as far as I'm concerned.
Emily shouting Arlong's name while stabbing her tattoo was my favorite scene. She perfectly depicted the anguish, anger, hurt, etc the scene demanded. The emotion in her voice was palpable. I love it.
Well said about Inaki(Luffy). Playing as Luffy is INCREDIBLY dangerous. Tweaking it a little to the realism side and he becomes too serious and uncharacteristic, but tweaking it a little to the goodfy side and he becomes total cringe. There was a very thin line to walk at and Inaki treaded it well.
Inaki was truly born to play Luffy. I totally get why Oda was laughing his ass off watching the audition tape cuz THAT'S HIM. Especially because he knows how to play Luffy right as you've already said. Absolutely insane. I think that goes for the entire cast, straw hat crew, marines and villains. Everyone feels like they were meant to play their roles.
Again, it highlight how perceptive and meticulous Oda is but Inaki did surpassed expectation and made this character his own!
I think the best character in the One Piece live action was Mihawk. They somehow managed to perfectly capture his energy and perfectly capture his look with zero compromises. And his intro scene was one of the most badass scenes I've seen in a live action.
I'm one of those that never watched the anime, even though I was always exposed to it. cause I had two cousins that I lived with that was crazy about One Piece, Naruto, DBZ, Bleach and others. they nearly never missed an airing episode.
anyway, I fired up Netflix and seen the live action One Piece series cover pop up. Something about it intrigued me even though since the first time I briefly seen the original, I didn't like One Piece, for no reason. I gave into my curiosity and watched it. I loved it and watched the whole series, maybe more than once, I'm excited for season 2, and I actually started watching the anime after I finished the live action series. Now I'm determined to catch up on the One Piece franchise. so I'm binging the One Piece anime on Netflix now. I think this live series is gonna bring in a flood of new One Piece fans. cause I know I can't be the only one to have this wonderful experience.
man you absolutely right, i paused the episode to look for the actor that plays Mihawk, guy nailed it, from looks, to how he acts, to even the voice and tone of the character, and the scenes he did are almost 1 to 1 with the anime
The actor's reaction to the thirst tweets is quite funny.
@@mrabetto857for real, he is THRIVING on tiktok
Yess!! Besides the Makima contact lens I enjoy the performance sooo much!!
Although they changed it up a lot, I loved the Baratie arc. It was the best for me because Sanji's back story was the best one done. Of course, the Zoro vs Mihawk duel was really good. But I really loved the portrayals of Sanji and Zeff and their relationship dynamic. I legit cried when Sanji left the Baratie and the moment between him and Zeff was so good.
Same! As soon as I saw the Baratie set design, I was just blown away. Sanjis arc was the best shot and didn’t feel as rushed ;))

ah yes my favourite straw hat member, Snaji
I thought Zeff was Gordon Ramsay. Lol
as someone who has been putting off one piece since forever (like I just didn’t have the commitment for a manga that’s the same age as me 😭), the live action changed my mind because of not only the actors, but the way they sliced their back stories & mixed it with the present allowed me to quickly get a full picture. I started the first volume yesterday 🙏
Oh boy, you are in for a wild ride.
One piece has so many amazing backstories
I’m always a little jealous of people starting the series. I’ve never gotten that feeling of “I’ve read 200 chapters, I only have 200 chapters left” anywhere else. Hope you love it. =)
Same I haven't touched anime and manga since high school but this made me interested again

It's amazing to know that after 20+ years, One Piece gets another new generation of fans because of this live action😁
New generation of haters too 😂
Actually weirdly this adaptation seems to be bringing in fans from older generations from my experience. Since these days, at least in the english speaking world, manga/anime has become very mainstream among younger people and many ultimatley find their way to the crown jewel that is OP. So young fans are a plenty. But among an older audience who never really interacted with manga/anime or only those who managed to go big in the US in the late 90s and early 00s(which OP failed to do big time due to a fumbled dub) have never been introduced to it. Those seem to be driven to it by the live action in big numbers now.
Inaki has big Luffy energy. No one on earth could be Luffy but Inaki really put on a good show. Love how the whole crew know and understand One Piece, the world, and are fans of One Piece. The production team was so focused on making the manga the main source material. Just goes to show that if you make a live action, make it with true fans of the show!. :)
At almost 40 I'm one of your older viewers, and it's been 20 years since I've regularly watched One Piece on TV. I also cannot say that I had much time over the last 10-15 years to continue to watch and get up to speed with more recent arches of it, but it always used to be one of my favorite anime, and this adaptation... just felt right. It was great entertainment and gave me a lot of nostalgia.
It's like a little miracle. After what netflix had done to Deathnote and Cowboy Bebop (two more of my favorite anime) I really was very apprehensive about this, but they really hit the spot with this one.
I'm really excited for the next season.
A 41 years old here brother. Also watching and reading One Piece since the 2000. Currently rereading the manga and enjoying the heck out of it. I’m up to date with the manga but there was no way I would not go back to early One Piece after this great season of the Live action. It’s not perfect, it’s a 7-8, but it is worth watching.
Same here, read all the available tankobon/volumes that were available in 2001, enjoyed it, but just never picked it up again.
45, hard agree! ✊
Don't think Netflix did Death Note
37 here, the Live action is so good I managed to let my mother enjoy it at 60+. And she doesn't really like manga and anime as formats, but she knows how much of a OP fan I am. So we watched it together x3.
Making Sanji 10000% less creepy was an important move. Not freaking out over every female was good.
I mean, Early Sanji was like that, he just became so crazy with women after the Timeskip.
Sanji's "weirdness" isn't that bad except for one arc because he didn't see any women for 2 years

My mom especially wanted to know why Shanks left Luffy. A few days later I saw my dad watching the first episode of the anime. I’m so happy to share this with them.

@@royalfun1031 but he told them what to do that's
I agree about Usopp. He needs to get more combat screentime next season. He had his fight in Arlong Park, but during the Syrup village episodes it just wasn’t obvious at all why they should even bring Usopp on the crew. He should have had his own fight during that arc. They could have shaved off some time during those episodes and include Jango so that Usopp can fight him.
I don't really agree, I think they could have done that if they had 9-10 episodes but they didn't, I think all they had to do to make Usopp a better fit for the crew this season was make him actually fire the cannon precisely. The part where he fumbled with all the cannonballs made him feel useless, being the crews sharpshooter his aim is his main purpose in the crew, they screwed his character pretty hard in that scene.
I think the Usopp actor could use a bit more training in acting. He seems to have the weakest performance
IF THEY JUST HAD JANGO IT WOULDA BEEN FINE
@@quantrindic5488honestly I think he’ll be GREAT in season 2. His audition tapes he EMBODIES Usopp perfectly haha. I think now that they’ve got a good feel for being the characters, they can improve on anything weak
Nice profile pic
I think Garp being there sooo much in S1 was also an attempt to flesh out Luffy's backstory a bit earlier too, cuz even in the manga, up to that point, he's just kind of there, a boy with a silly dream.
S1 really tried to build the foundation for character development, we literally got flashbacks for all 5 of the crew.
Ofc fb
Netflix show like this tend to get cancelled after just 1st season so my take is they really want to enrich the story and cut some to fit 8 episodes.
More flashbacks for next season I imagine (Ace and Sabo for Luffy) and we meet Tony Tony Chopper! And we will meet Nico Robin as a villain to start with as part of Baroque Works ! I will be interested how they handle both of these characters especially Chopper.
Just that Oda didn't like that Garp, which is supposed to be a bigger reveal down the line, was that overtly present in S1, which doesn't even make a lot of sense considering his position and who he is. But obviously we always throw a nuke when capturing a burglar.
I ADORE the heavy inclusion of Garp, Koby and the Marines. It provides a perfect duality between the journeys of Luffy and Koby and allows them to bookend the season with their friendship.
Their friendship was so sweet, and their hug at the end of the season had me smiling from ear to ear 🥹
"Be a good Marine"
"Be a good Pirate"
kobys story being told alongside luffys was such a great story telling dymanic. the way you see koby and luffy as the protagonists who go seprate paths but are connected with the common goal of following their dreams was and is GOAT
now if only they've made the LA Garp to even remotely behave like the OG Garp too. Aside from having a beard and being in the same frame as Coby it's impossible to tell tho that character even is at first glance. They are completely two different characters.
@@HaohmaruHL yea they definitely should have gave bro shoulder pads or something to look swole and old not just old
@@HaohmaruHL I think he does.
I can confirm that this made my dad interested in One Piece. He binged the whole season in one day and he really enjoyed it.
Along with him, most of my friends who never watched One Piece now are interested in the manga and anime because of the Live Action.
The Usopp arc became underwhelming because they removed a key moment of Usopp, deciding to protect the town because no one believes him. He has that courage to make the fact that pirates are coming to be really a lie by making sure no pirates are coming. That decision is what made Luffy go with his plan.
Yeah exactly. What did you think about Arlong Park, I feel like it also suffered pretty considerably from the live action’s inability to have big action sequences.
They made the scene where Usopp decides to stay by Kaya’s side even if she didn’t believe him to be similar. The pay off wasn’t as big with this, but it has the same concept for usopp’s character. Even if he’s a coward, if the things he cares about are in danger, he’ll stand up and fight for it. They just made it about friends instead of the whole village which still works with the theme of one piece.
On the other hand they did such an Excellent job in Sanjis backstory
Please take the positive as well not only commenting the negative stuffs
@@Bud_Buddhano, it’s not the same, rather quite different. In live action Ussop told villagers that pirates are coming just because he asked for help. But In manga, he just tried to tell them that because he wanted to warn them and wanted them to run away from the pirates. He had the courage to take action and fight against enemies to protect what he cares even if he’s alone. but in live action he just waits and sits.
@@AM-lx6vl I definitely prefer how it played out in the manga, but everything works within the context of the live action. He sought out help from the village *and* the marines but they all denied him so he decided to protect Kaya himself. And since Kuro, Sham and Bucci were all in the mansion it makes sense that he'd stand guard in her room.
That being said, he definitely should have had a more significant role in the fight against the Black Cat pirates instead of giving all the action to Luffy and Zoro.
The "Tiny Buggy"- joke made me chortle like an idiot. Also, the Strawhats carrying his head around surprised me. 😂❤
I actually like Garp and Coby time screen.
Garp training Coby, and Coby making realize Garp that Luffy is a pirate was legit great.
I always thought about how underutilized Coby was in the early series just to make him relevant later.
Totally agree and I also like that we actually get to see the slowly developing friendship between Coby and Helmeppo!
Its almost as if the Cover Stories of the Manga covered that aspect.
@@gehtdichnichtsan2418 Yeah but, not as early as in the live action. They are back to back. Coby feels much more relevant and we can see Garp and Hemelpo also develop this early without losing out the main story.
Me too, I Love that the L.A. One Piece expands on them, but they changed Garp a bit too much, but if they justify the changes next season (I have hope), the plot holes that could appear due to their current Garp Path, could be mitigated... But i feel like season 2 would need 12 episodes of 1 hour each, And i feel like they could do "OVA" style 2 extra episodes flashing out why and how Usopp joined, and his active role in mentaining the ship, cementing him as a true Strawhat Crewmember (But also we really need to establish his weakness, and grouts that happened until and during Arlong Park), until, at least, we meet Frankie in season 3 (Frankie is based on young Jim Carrey, so, if we find a lookalike, that can get his facial expressions 30% to what Jim did, and has a close enough voice to Frankie, and Sponsored by Coca-Cola for the Cyborg Practical effects or CGI).
Also, we need more justification in the "OVA" style bonus episodes to Sanji joining the crew and being so adamant about being loyal until death. And all that because we didn't have time with only 8 episodes, Should have been at least 10 (meaning at least 2 hours of extra content needed for the "OVA")...
But I guess this, at least for who it hooks, could just read the manga, driving more attention to the source...
@@Narinjas I think Season 2 should only cover until they arrive to Alabasta and Season 3 should be the Alabasta saga.
There is a ton of stuff for Franky been in season 3, Water 7 arc is way far ahead. We have Smoker, Laboon, Robin’s introduction, the giants in their 100 year duel and Chopper’s arc.
That is a lot to cover, especially if they do 8 episodes again.
And then after Alabasta, there is Skypea saga, that should be season 4. And Season 5 finally Water 7 arc, with Franky finally been introduced.
I loved it! The budget for each episode was between 17 and 18 million and a season 2 has been greenlit.
Its way too expensive, but if they keep doing what they are doing they can sustain it. Unlike the witcher franchise

When Netflix announced they’re going to make live action One Piece, I was terrified, considering what they’ve done to Death Note which is relatively easy to make live action with. After seeing the trailer and the whole show, I’m more confident with Netflix now. But all credits should go to Oda sensei, Tomorrow Studios and the actors, they really did a good job.
All credit should go to the showrunners Steven Maeda and Matt Owens for convincing Oda to greenlight the project, having the right vision which direction to take the show, hiring the right people and making the right calls to bring the series to life as a live action. Ofc everyone else working on the show too, but these two are definitely the backbone of everything.

The difference between costumes for One Piece and other anime is Oda has color walkthroughs where Strawhats are all dressed in different things.
So, for Mihawk, he can wear that outfit because he’s there for one episode. But the Strawhats are always changing into outfits Oda designed prior.
I mean he appeared in episode 5, 6 and 8 but I get what you're saying. Mihawk just doesn't have an expansive of a wardrobe like the straw hats lol. I think the only other outfit we've ever seen him wear is the white shirt and black pants during Zoro's training, which would be pretty underwhelming to see him in lol.

I also really enjoyed the live action. As you said, it's not perfect, but you can tell the cast and crew really understood the spirit of the story and put their hearts and souls into it, so it's very recognizable. It helps that while the cartoony slapstick nature of the show was toned down for live-action, it's still definitely a show that doesn't take itself super seriously, and there are plenty of silly moments that still feel genuine.
I think my biggest gripe is that Luffy's fights tend to be underwhelming compared to the other characters--in the anime/manga Luffy is very creative with constantly using his stretching powers in new and unique ways, but in the LA he only really stretches during finishing moves and significant strikes (like protecting Nami from Arlong). I'm guessing this was a restriction made by CGI and budgeting, since Luffy's powers pretty much require CGI while Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji can all have badass battles with good stunt work and practical effects. That being said, I do appreciate that they worked around this somewhat by giving Luffy a small character arc about learning how to work with others and be a leader and make tough calls. It made him seem more inexperienced but getting better, than just straight up being weaker than the others.
Garp being put in early was actually a change pushed by the producers. Their reason being they needed a secondary b plot to add higher stakes for Luffy and his crew. Ofc Oda still has to green light it but apparently after some persuading. Same with Arlong’s early appearance tho the reason this time to set him up as an antagonist earlier.
As someone new to One Piece I absolutely loved it. I could definitely feel the anime-ness in the tone and they embraced much of the silliness without it being overbearing. The production design is stellar, you can really see the care that went into the world building in the costumes, props and sets. The performances from Iñeki, Taz and Emily were the highlights for me and really felt distinct and authentic.
I agree the mansion episodes were poorly paced, the confrontation with Kuro felt like it would never end. Other than that I'm extremely impressed and looking forward to season 2!
W
I went in skeptical , and by the end of the season, I found myself sad that it was over. Each episode, I was liking it more and more each episode. Even with the changes they did, I felt it suited the media perfectly. To me, it is just below Rurouni Kenshin live action, which is at the top of my live action tier list
I agree with your take on the marines. It was awesome way to build even more of the world for one piece fans. My biggest surprise is how many non anime watchers at work were talking about the live action
I've been waiting for Joey's review on One Piece.
Now Garnt remains.
Seeing One Piece in a live-action setting, it really gives off a similar vibe as Adventure Time with how it built up to the subtle reveal as well as background hints up until then that the Land of Ooo was post-apocalyptic Earth. With all the cultural and historical anachronisms, stuff that to us looks very familiar, combined with all these sprinkles of magic (devil fruit powers) and fantasy (fish men and sea monsters) and science-fiction (the snail phones), but all together here looks very chaotic like none of it should go together, but it still makes sense; all this absurdity helps suspend disbelief. It gives this sense almost unease that something is not quite right with this world.
literally the same exact opinion as me. thank you!!!!!!! I saw you posted and im like finally someone whose opinion i respect and you nailed it, thank you!
I'd love to know how Joey feels about Jamie Lee Curtis wanting to play Kureha? (That is, for those who don't know, in part because Chopper is her favourite character and she's too old, in her words, to play Nico Robin as much as she wishes she could.)
The only thing that I didn't like about this live action is that it appears they killed Merry cause he never appears again after being dropped into the well.
My favorite thing about this live action apart from the set design was the music. Like holy, the music was really incredible and made some of the moments hit much harder
Yea Nami one too
24:58 Did you just call Garp a *General?* He’s a Vice Admiral. Respect the man’s rank.
Oda's active involvement is what I think really made this show successful.
A lot of times you get shows greenlit with a budget and just kinda let them go off with no restrictions. But generally if you don't have to fight for your vision, then you're just gonna be using the worst version of it. So having every idea go through Oda and having to earn his approval resulted in refining each new idea more and more until it finally gained approval.
My fear with season 2, as is with most sequels of successful shows/movies, is that they will loosen the creative grip too much and let too many "first draft" ideas into the final product. Hopefully Oda retains his involvement in the same capacity as season 1.
I think the Helmeppo casting was absolute GOLD. Superior to the mange/anime. Bravo.
90 percent of the cast is perfect
Been waiting for Joey's input on this. And I agree, as a non-one piece fan, this definitely got my interest. Like I have started asking my friends who are fans about what actually happens in the anime and they would say the live action did a pretty good job summarizing the main events for non fans to understand. I was pretty skeptical on how they are going to make one piece a live action because of its nature and how eccentric characters are, but this one is an exception. I love how the tone and settings were toned down to make it a bit realistic or whatnot. I love everything. Im really looking forward for the next season!
i saw a lot of uploads already but i had to watch yours first. so glad its now up.
Here because my husband worked on this as a stunt rigger. Proud with all the positive feedback
I think I say this for all One Piece fans.
Please tell your husband thank you for your hard work!
The Garp/Marine plotline was something Steven Maeda (the other showrunner, the main showrunner is Matt Owens, he's the real fan) pushed for and had to convince Oda to do. Maeda comes from a TV background so he said he needed something to add stakes to the story and to basically give the characters in A plot (strawhats) a breather. I personally didn't like it, but a lot of people who never watched OP did it, and so did you apparently so all is well.
I loved it so much. I was constantly in awe at how much I was enjoying the series. I couldn't actually believe Netflix could make something so good. Very very hyped about more future seasons!
THE TIMING!!!?? I LITERALLY JUST FINISHED WATCHING IT LAST NIGHT
The costumes are amazing, all clothes they wear are from color walks, covers and other official art
Nah, Garps beast Hoodie looked like it came from Wish. Plus they kept changing the costumes on crew.
@@delta9571 im talking about those...
All outfits are canon
And garp's hat is just more realistic, the one from the manga would look worse
Yami Pfp is a W
The live action of One Piece really did a good job in staying true to the manga during the First Arc. To make things better Oda worked with the Netflix Team and the actors just to make sure that they did this series by the book! An it’s just glorious!
One Piece is basically Eiichiro Oda’s longest ongoing franchise and it’s his Grand Line, heck the first time I ever picked up a manga of One Piece was in my elementary school years and that back in 1999! An how far we’ve come in the series and with the end of this journey on the horizon is just incredible!
The budget for this compared to these latest marvel movies makes it criminal how bad Disney is doing. This show was a success.
welp...one piece isnt politically correct :>
@@niklassjvar1635Tf you mean? OP is a highly political manga/anime series. Do you have trouble comprehending fiction?
someone explain to 'em, too lazy to elaborate what "hollywood's politically correct" is
@@cackle529 not politically correct ≠ non political my dude
@@niklassjvar1635one piece is politically correct by definition. It’s a very liberal manga in every way.
My nephew(11 years old) got really into One Piece after watching the live action and started watching the anime. I'm so happy because I also started reading One Piece when I was his age!
I feel like you can really feel that the whole team is made of huge OP fans! Like this is such a love and passion project for them and it really shows
I hadnt watched One Piece in YEARS and had downtime during surgery recover to watch this, It fucking ROCKED.
Like you said, the scene with Nami asking for help was so well done.
I can't wait to see season 2.
I love all of it. But my favourite part? Emily Rudd playing Nami. She's just perfect
It got my mum who hates anime to watch one piece and actually sit down and be interested in the lore which is mind blowing to me
Honestly I’m loving the live action so far, the cast definitely love their roles and you can see that
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE ‼️
My hope is that the next seasons get even better due to cost-savings. Like, yeah they spent a lot of money per episode in season 1, but I think a lot of that money was for things that they can save in later seasons like the Going Merry, costumes, contracts for access to land for filming, etc. If they save enough money on those kinds of things but spend about the same or more in later seasons, then that could mean that they’ll be able to spend more money on good CGI and fight scenes.
Probably not, most of the screens and props can’t be reused other than the Merry and a few costumes.
The Baratie restaurant and Arlington park is used once and it’s mostly gone. OP is fun because it’s constantly giving us new scenes and islands on the journey, not because it’s reusing stuff from before.
The success also meant that actors will negotiate for higher salaries and increase production costs.
I think Ussop's arc felt underwhelming and dragged out is because even though he was there there was very little shown for the audience to gravitate to him even his mother was shown in passing that if you binge it would probably miss it completely which is sad since is one very few pieces shown to flesh him out a bit more.
I was pleasantly surprised by the live action series. ♥ So much so, that I watched it twice. And while I absolutely loved the original voices of the cast, I had an even bigger blast watching it in German, since it brought back all the nostalgia and made me feel like a teen again. (They got the same VA cast from the German anime Dub, which I looooved as a kid. I would always watch One Piece on TV as soon as I came home from school).
Taz Skylar legit became Sanji from kickboxing to cooking don't know if it's true but I saw that he was even cooking for the stage crew
I would lay down my life for Iñaki as Luffy, but couldn't say the same for the manga Luffy at the same point in the story. the LA is doing a great job, all things considered
I had watched the first few episodes of the anime a few times over the past decade, and honestly, I couldn't get in to it. That 1k episode mountain always seemed too high to climb.
Saw you had a review up and decided to check out the live action before I watched this. Fully expected to watch an episode or two and bail, but I binged the whole thing. Now I'm binging the anime.
Maybe not for people who aren't fans of anime in general, but those who are and have been intimidated by the scale of One Piece... I do think this is a great starting point.
Thanks for the review, because I probably wouldn't have watched this without it. At the very least it converted one person in to a fan of One Piece.
I was never interested in watching one piece because it seemed like a big commitment because the amount of the chapters and episodes.
But watching this live action on a whim made me very interested in the lore and the characters. I feel like learning more about one piece and now I can see me getting into the manga/anime in the future.
I watched it without knowing or consuming any one piece content, and it was so good! It really made me so interested into the world of one piece and wanted more of the crue
I find the question of whether live action anime should be made at all pretty interesting, but to me this live action gave a pretty good answer. Everyone always says that they would love to go back and experience a piece of media they love for the first time again. This is it. This is as close as we can get to that, and I think that as a fan of one piece, having something like this be pretty good let’s us do that.
I may have seen a million of these types of videos, but your one in a million!
I really love how they went more mature for this and more violent. Really feels like a pirate adventure. Also mihawk is sooo badass
As some one who has read manga a lot but never tried one piece watching the series made me continue on from loguetown and I’ve gone down the rabbit hole just finnished skypeia
Ten years ago I watched like 100 episodes of the anime and then said "I'll wait until it is completed to finish it" like many others and never looked back.
I decided to watch the live action with my dad, who has a hard time gettin into anime, and we both loved it. It re ingnated that curiosity to know what happens next that no one of my one-piece-fan friends were capable of fueling no mater how much they insisted, so they did something right with this adaptation !
currently on volume 5 of the manga and I cannot wait for the second season of the show.
My favorite character in the live actions was Usop, mainly because Usop's personality in the anime can get old sometimes. In general I think they all played the characters really well.
The actor of Buggy definitely carried the entire show. It hit both the scary and the comedy aspect of the character associated with the anime.
I hated Buggy, but tbh I never really liked him in the manga either.
I don't like how they smudged his clown makeup as if they were trying to replicate the Joker
"Buggy definitely carried the entire show", couldn't disagree any more
you forgot that, inside syrup village 2 episode, they also include zoro flashback that helps flesh zoro more which is quite important, because zoro have no home island tto flesh him out
No one believed it would break the mould for a live action but it sort of delivered. Honestly I preferred some of the live action moments to the anime moments. Like the action scene with Mihawk and Zoro, the live action felt like it had real weight to it. I hope that season 2 remains consistent with the quality of season 1.
live action has weight to it ?
Nahh, the ending of the fight was akward. Zoro holding up his zword to the sky ?
In the anime it makes sense and looks cool cause Zoro is far from luffy, on a rowboat while luffy is on a platform.
It like, hey look at me over here luffy. I'm never gonna lose again !
While in the live action, mf is literally next to him. It looks so goofy.
Mihawk is great in the live-action but the fight is not better then the animated one.
Especially Mihawk stopping zoro's attacking with the tiny dagger. It doesn't feel right in the live action version.
The rest of the fight is great but overall it's definitely not better then the animated one. You should rewatch the animated one rlly.
Sort of delivered?? it delivered with more to spare, it was the best anime live action we have ever seen and probably will see ever!

My 49 year old father just finished it and absolutely loved it, he's now borrowing my manga volumes and just finished Alabasta
my sister who only watch jjk, black butler, haikyuu basically anime with good looking male characters, started watching one piece anime after she finished one piece live action. that sanji live aciton backstory got her good.
Don't worry Joey, I was patiently waiting for your take on the OPLA
This live action part got me interested to actually watch and read the original
As someone who's tried to watch the one piece anime in the past but fell off it fairly quick, this adaptation blew all my expectations away (which were zero) I've since picked up the Manga and I'm nearly 300 chapters in and can officially say I'm a huge one piece fan now and it's all thanks to a bloody live action adaptation 😂
W
This live action shows all what made this series so good.
- Main characters with great personality and have their own dreams
- Great fights
- World building such as
- Using major characters, Garp, Koby and helmeppo to show how corrupted the World Goverment is
- Quick information from Arlong in Baratie about discrimination between fishmen and humans
- The best part is, it managed to tell the story in just 8 episodes and wouldnt feel left out from the manga. You can basically continue to read or watch the anime where the live action left of.
Been waiting for this. ❤
Second season has been announced. How they'll do Chopper well, I have absolutely no idea
They have to get a little kid to put on a reindeer costume to make it work
if they get Terry Crews to put some antlers on his head I think it'll work
Has to be a muppet, and not CG.
Probably the same way
pikachu - sonic - rocket raccoon - etc
were done
4'9 man in a fursuit👍
Sanij's farewell to Zeff was nailed i waited to se it because was very emotional as i recall
Netflix already renewed the show, so season 2 boys! Oda-sensei himself said, "It seems to me the Straw Hats will need a great doctor." I'm still really hyped that they got Aurora for the soundtrack and that the Japanese anime dub cast is voicing the Japanese dub version of the live action! Everyone put so much work into this and it paid off.
Yea boi
I had been waiting for this video!! I agree with you, Buggy was fantastic! His entrance was my favorite one by far!!
Agree with the Syrup village arc was definitely lacking. I love One Piece, have been watching and reading for about 15 years and the fact that this live action is getting new people to experience One Piece has warmed my heart! I love seeing videos of all the new people starting the anime because of it and falling in love with the story. I haven't experienced toxic fans. I've only seen positive comments to others and supportive words to those starting the series. Overall, i really really liked this live action and i am so incredibly happy that so many new fans are emerging from it ❤
I love the interviews with the cast. They did amazing as their characters and act like their characters in real life. I was iffy when I first heard about the live action but it was really good!
My best friend who's not really into anime keeps seeing tiktoks about Buggy and the live action. She told me that she wants to start watching both the Live action and the anime just for Buggy since she loves clowns
I think I’m 70 deep into the anime, I’ve stopped watching it as of 2021 but the live action piqued my interest, and I’m pumped to see where OP goes as an anime, fandom, storyline, Live Action.
I watched like 50 or so eps of one piece a few years back and gave up, the animation and its length just wasn't it for me. But the live action brought me back in and it is so good! I am now getting back into the anime as well!
had the same problem with the animation it wasn't good for me so even if the story was, animation was a big turn off. Which maybe is why I enjoyed the live action so much the story is there and the visuals are good even tho it's more realistic. I read that the Anime only gets good animation in episode 600 no way I'll watch 599 episodes of bad animation. Probably will watch the live action and where it ends, after all the seasons I hope it gets, continue the Anime from there, producers want to make six seasons at least and twelve if netflix let's them keep going. With 6 seasons I think it gets closer to when One Piece got good animation so it'll be less painful
@accel_boost4752 the anime has bad animation all the way, it's only in the latest arc where the animation is better on average, like 900 episodes in, before there are obviously highs and lows but it's mostly bad, one of the worse animations in any big name anime, definitely the worst between naruto and bleach, naruto and bleach can get really impressive, one piece NEVER do that.
@@symphonixbladesThat's the worst idea imaginable lmao
The animation is old but not bad also gets better as it goes on
It'll take decades to make
And the LA skips most stuff so u would still need to start from the beginning
@@pneumonoultramicroscopicsi4065nah it's fine except some arcs like Dressrosa major eps r good
@@royalfun1031 not really. Tower of God Anime also skips stuff from Webtoon for example. And I continued the Webtoon where the anime left of in S1. Some things that were skipped in the anime I stil understood them without reading from the beginning. So for One Piece I believe I can be able to understand it if I continue where the live action leaves when it ends
The live action series got me hooked to watch the anime and i can say.. I'm glad I watched it finally!
