@@mattt233 Those are just senate guards dressed at red during the time of the republic because of how damn loyal they are. And yes, they are more easier to beat for a well trained force user, for normies and even some starter jedi, they are not to be underestimated.
Crimson Empire was such a cool comic run. Even though it is set pretty far out in the Legends timeline, after all of Palps clones have been killed, it still shed a lot of light on just how fierce the Red Guard were
The Red Guards have been my faves ever since I did a blind buy of the Crimson Empire comic, Kir Kanos brutalizing a group of Black Storm Troopers was epic. Also if there was a character that should’ve been added in Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kashmir it should’ve been an Imperial Red Guard, they really didn’t need a pallet swap of Boba Fett!
I remember reading a canon novel about Vader and Palpatine, and there’s Red Royal Guards in the book that are revealed to be Clones from TCW that were trained and accepted into the Royal Guard
You should check out Carnor Jax. He was an Imperial Sovereign Protector-class Royal Guard. He didn't go "rogue" per se but he'd did make his own play for the Imperial Throne.
Even though some writers have made them jokes, at moments; getting punked by Vader, or just dying to regular stuff, the Royal Guards have long been one of my favorite things of the Star Wars Empire. It might be an exaggeration, in practice, but the idea to me that the six Guards who disembarked with the Emperor, near the beginning of RotJ, could have taken a those assembled Stormtroopers, adequately protect the Emperor there, and possibly not lose one of their own to the altercation, was awesome to child me, back in the early 90s. When EU gave us the Sovereign Protectors, who were even more bad ass, had some Force powers, and were trusted to guard Palpatine's most sensitive things, instead of just guarding him, when he obviously needed little in the way bodyguards, was even better. It does make me HATE Carnir Jax, since it makes little sense his indoctrination seemed to give just then, but oh well. I honestly wasn't usually fond of the FUnl variants; I questioned if they'd really be things, except that our character was a bona-fide demigod, and needed something for "little bosses". They're okay, and I continue to feel it makes sense that they are superior to "regular" red Guard, since the Emperor needed to account for where he couldn't be there to use his power, but I sometimes just didn't care. Any chance you might be willing to cover the Legends successors to the Royal Guard? The Imperial Knights? They are awesome in their own rights (opinion), have lightsabers, and more Force skills, but also have actual personality, struggles, Cortosis gear, and serve an Emperor who isn't quite...Palpatine. It might seem silly, since Legacy is old, outdated, and sort of irrelevant to "current" Star Wars content, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love it, so I thought I'd ask. In a galaxy where no more Jedi are really trained, and the IK are almost the closest thing left, since they have actual limitations, I think it might be some fun edutainment!😊
The Red Guards are the equivalent of Sith Initiates and Apprentices of Emperor Palpatine’s “Age of One Rule” with Vader being the only true Acolyte in Sidious’ hierarchy, or even possibly a lesser Dark Lord. The Red Guard are essentially Korriban whelps and Initiates, without the connection or knowledge of Sith history. Sidious was making a mindless empire, rendering it toothless against him.
The Royal Guards are so much better then the Inquisition. They have way cooler uniforms and are an actual threat. With the Inquisitors all i keep seeing is team rocket from Pokemon. Of course With that said I simply prefer Legends to Cannon and still believe Legends is the true Cannon.
I am writing an ongoing fantasy book series that features guards that are like the Red Guards in that they are fanatically loyal and highly skilled warriors. However, the armor and weapons they use are medieval and have no advanced technology.
I'd love to see a Star Wars live action movie adaptions of the book Lords of the Sith by Paul S. Kemp, complete with Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader and Ian McDiarmid as Darth Sidious and two Royal Guards (two good opportunities for the power of the Imperial Royal Guards (Red Guards)! Pretty great story with memorable moments and characters that if done right would be an awesome movie or two!
In my headcanon, the inquisitors where all fallen Jedi and after their failure, Darth Sidious created the Shadow Guard with new Force sensitives to replace them. The Shadow Guard are my favourite.
I agree look at how easy they took down that mandalorian paz vizla they are bad ass they make the mandalorians look weak tbh that's what I thought. I kinda think Gideon was right when he said mandalorians had their time and it's past. Even if they win a few rounds in the end they lose.
@@Anon1370 I agree, this union they have created seems like a last ditch effort to prevent total annihilation, perhaps they were better off scattered across the galaxy
When I think of which guards is the most powerful it maybe a bit surprising, but I'd say the standard Red Royal Guards probably are the most powerful, not to belittle the Shadow Guards or Saber Guards. I think this because of the simple fact the Reds would have numbers working for them, while a Shadow guard is significantly stronger on a one on one scenario I can't imagine force sensitivity is particularly common among imperials nor is it to the degree one would expect a Shadow to be at, as for the Sabers you just need to look at the cloning methods in legends and canon to determine that the natural degrading of the clone host would eventually lead to subpar clones even if they could use the force. Simply put the Reds have both numbers and a clear consistent amount of skill associated with them.
This is exactly why I personally believe mandalorians need to bring in Jedi/sith lessons into their culture because of situations like this. How would Madalorians be able to face to face guards like these with fewer numbers and just their own gadgets and skills? It's not enough. Even learning a little bit or getting training in the ways of the force and dark side would help them defend themselves properly against foes such as these. IF they still exist in canon expect to see the real threats beyond the 3 guards we saw last episode of The Mandalorian.
Imperial Red Guard are very intimidating. Very powerful, capable, tactically advanced. Very intimidating and powerful. I think Shadow Guards are also very impressive. Very. Can you mention more classes? May the Force be with you too:)

Or do people just make stuff up that works? I’m genuinely curious how all this lord comes into play. It's not George's decisions anymore. Its Disney who makes the decisions now, I do believe alot of people overlook it like Dave filoni Jon Favreau for Disney. But Disney decides what is and isn't Canon.

The royal guards have exactly one singular on screen kill in Star Wars and it's Paz Vizla after he fought off a whole squad of mando troopers
thats in a completely different era with completely different equipment and training so they cant really be classified as royal guards
We need a story about a royal guard who went rogue.
Never happened, though. Even if it had it would be short. Guard betrays Palpatine. Guard is hunted and killed by the order he served.
