The LOB is the greatest Defense of All Time and there's no argument for it because you hear about all these historic defenses (85 bears, 2000 ravens, etc) but all of them were 1 year wonders. The LOB was the best defense 4 years in a row in an era that favors the offense with stats that matched all these other historic defenses

One thing usually forgotten about that Super Bowl loss was that both Kam and Thomas were injured in the NFC Championship, Sherman injured in practice in the bye week. Lane, the healthy DB intercepted Brady but also broke his arm in the first quarter.
I don't think the Patriots had a chance against a healthy LOB

Criminally underrated just like anything related to the seahawks. This defense was the best of all time. It was perfect in every area. Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett, Brandon Mebane, Red Bryant, Bruce Irvin, Malcolm Smith, KJ Wright, Bobby Wagner, Brandon Browner, Byron Maxwell, Walter Thurmond, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor. That is the most complete defensive unit the NFL has ever seen. Legendary

The Seahawks were confident going up against Denver because they knew they'd already beaten the best team in the league: the San Francisco 49ers.
They dominated Denver so much that backup quarterback got to play a few snaps even though Wilson wasn't injured.

  • @JamesSmiley
    @JamesSmiley 8 місяців тому +11

They were so good, they made like 15 NFL teams think Cover 3 and Cover 4 was a secret weapon.
Then everyone realized, including the Hawks post LOB, that those coverages had little to do with their success.
It was the room of badas-es that made that defense great - not the scheme.
That group could have just ran Man and still dominated.

People forget the combination of marshawn lynch on the other side, that was the worst running back to face for defenses and the LOB was the worst defense to face for offenses, cause they would leave you hurting afterward. I remember hearing players from opposing teams talk about how you had to just get into a different mindset when you faced them cause of how physical they were. I remember hearing a crazy stat where they had this long streak where teams that would play them, would almost all go on to lose the following week, guessing cause they would be so beat up.

You will NEVER see a defense as great as the LOB ever again. They werent just great for one year. They were the #1 defense in the NFL for FOUR STRAIGHT SEASONS. “2012 to 2015 seasons, the Seahawks led the league in scoring defense, allowing the fewest points scored each year for four years straight. The only other team to accomplish this feat were the Cleveland Browns of the 1950s” You will not ever see a consistent, PHYSICAL defense like the LOB. Truly the last defense of its kind. You cant play that kind of football in the modern NFL. They wont allow it. New defenses will be great, schemes even better than the LOB potentially, but the consistency and the legacy will never be surpassed. That defense and team was a family on and off the field, and so were the fans. Time sure have changed in Seattle. Hopefully better years are soon to come.

I've never seen another secondary even close. The Raiders team that won their second Super Bowl had a good secondary. They all had stickum on their hands. Mike Haynes and Lester Hayes were the corners, but Seattle had two stars at corner 2 stars at safety. The rush was very good which meant our secondary made a lot of plays on the ball. KJ Wright, Bobby Wagner, and Malcom Smith as our linebackers. There was not one weak link

Seattle could have gotten an opportunity to do what the Chiefs are gearing up for this upcoming season. 😞
I don’t believe for one second that team not winning a third Lombardi had Marshawn scored that SuperBowl TD against New England.
LOB was in their absolute peak and Russ was still on a rookie contract. Same for our WRs Kearse and Baldwin.
And probably the biggest catalyst of the LOBs success; Bobby Wagner/Michael Bennett/Cliff Avril. Those turnovers don’t happen without pressure up front.
For those who probably don’t remember, Avril and Bennett were fairly cheap free agents. And at first, they were primarily used as 3rd Down options.
Fresh legs for those critical 3rd down stops.
It’s a damn shame of what could have been.
They could have been remembered as the best NFL team ever, unequivocally.
Give me a three-peat over one undefeated season, any day.

Literally the best defense ever. I dare you to make an argument against it the players and the scheme? Yo it’s not even close. And it wasn’t just a secondary either . It was a whole defense the front 7 and the back half all did there part and was great at it. And to top it all off.
