@@phantomninja6079 Its not just that, the structure of the game is the same as a collection, but instead of collecting an object you get points. You're on a small open level with a bunch of things to do, on a mario game you would do something (like getting to the top of the mountain or bringing the penguin down) and be rewarded with a star, on thug2 each goal gives you a certain amount of points to unlock the next level, you don't need to complete all of them, just enough to go to the next level (just like you don't need all stars in mario). And you do them while you explore the map, they're all on a list on the menu, but you need to find where it is and do it by yourself. I think thug 2 is the one that fits best because in other tony hawk games they give you a timer to do as much as you can in one run, on thug 2 you have unlimited time and you will spend most of it exploring. Thug 1 is also different but it mission based, you need to talk to an npc to activate the mission first, then do it, if a mission is to grind on 5 cars you can't just go there and do it, you need to talk to him and be on the "mission mode", so exploring the map is not as interesting because you are just looking for npcs to tell you what to do, you have no reason to just wonder around. I didn't play american wasteland so I don't know if it's like thug2 too

I remember me and my sister would play this like crazy. Playing the Tron like mode was our favorite and in race we'd tried to pin each other's frog and time it so that if you wait for a trap or car to come by with enough time to get pass it but have the other person wait, but you can get pinned in the middle of the animation and the other person can get safe and put you in danger so this plan can and will get countered or reversed.

Wait! Frogger is a flying frog now?! Flying frogs are a species of frog that have extra large webbings on their feet to act like parachutes to glide in the air, similar to flying squirrels
Nice to see that you're actually rescuing the baby frogs this time, rather than just flat out exploding them to death like you did in the first game...
6:30 I'm pretty sure there was also a sound wave when croaking in the first Frogger *on PC.* I remember using it quite a lot to learn which way to go to find the frogs (in that dark maze level especially). How would it even work without a sound wave?
One thing I think that could of been done is that the eight playable characters could have had gameplay differences; it felt like we only played as Frogger with different costumes. I even have ideas for the eight characters special abilities. Frogger: Able to take two hits from most things (some things still kill in one hit) Lillie Frog: Fast movement speed Tad: Able to glide extra long Treeby: Triple jump Wart: Able to eat any insect enemy Tank: Able to stun animal and robot enemies, making them harmless for a few seconds (no effect on obstacles) Roobie: Able to eat many obstacles, but not robots or animals Swampy: Able to eat robots and animals, but will get full if it's used too much, and will have to wait a little to eat again

With all of the problems you were talking about in this video, I have a feeling you’re going to love some of the later games. I grew up playing Frogger: Ancient Shadow and Frogger’s Adventures: The Rescue on GameCube. They’re so fun.
I said this on the other frogger video but I played this one a ton as a kid (PC version from the framerate issues weren't nearly as bad) and I got it down to a science. I could complete the entire story mode in about 55 minutes flat. Very fun!
Oh god, Nitro. I was given The Great Quest as a birthday present from my aunt when I was younger. I played so much Swampy's Revenge on PC that I was excited when I got that. You're going to fucking hate it.
I was hoping you’d review this! I never played the first game (or, hell, even the original arcade game) but when I listened to you talk about its flaws, the thing constantly running through my head was, “Swampy’s Revenge does all that *way* better.”
My grandparents bought this game on PC for when I visited, I knew it would hold up! A little disappointed you didn’t bring up the music at all, the tracks are really tight and simple, and they kind of get stuck in your head!
Were you aware that the PC & PS1 versions used early versions of the Dreamcast final music? You can hear slight changes for example with Super Retro Theme and Super Retro Theme (Alternate) on my channel ^^
This is my childhood game here. My first PC game as well. I still have the disk, surprisingly enough. Works fine a bit, but I do want a new PC to try to play it again.
little correction: Inputs are not only collected in between frames or during a specific moment in delivering a frame to a screen. The inherit lag of 30 fps is because there is less visual information for you as a player to process and new visual information takes longer to appear and not because inputs are collected and recognized at a lower rate. In fact, each button press interrupts a CPU always. Besides that, great review.
I only had the GBC version growing up, and played it on a GBA. Being born in the late 90's, I had just missed the retro console train. This looks loads better. Can't wait for you to get to "The Rescue" and the GBA games of Frogger. Those bring back memories.

I had the Game Boy Color version as the ONLY new game I had for a long time. Good memories....
Frogger: Able to take two hits from most things (some things still kill in one hit)
Lillie Frog: Fast movement speed
Tad: Able to glide extra long
Treeby: Triple jump
Wart: Able to eat any insect enemy
Tank: Able to stun animal and robot enemies, making them harmless for a few seconds (no effect on obstacles)
Roobie: Able to eat many obstacles, but not robots or animals
Swampy: Able to eat robots and animals, but will get full if it's used too much, and will have to wait a little to eat again
Man, if I grew up with this game, my painful memories of the original PS1 Frogger would have been eased.
When the title screen music started my heart exploded with nostalgia.
Were you aware that the PC & PS1 versions used early versions of the Dreamcast final music? You can hear slight changes for example with Super Retro Theme and Super Retro Theme (Alternate) on my channel.
@@RingsOfGeonosis That's cool, I grew up with the pc version, so I didn't know that.
How to make a platformer mascot:
1. Pick a noun.
2. Add -er
I love how swampy tries to make his own game to outsell frogger’s game that’s such a funny gag
This was my absolute favorite game growing up. Played it to death.
The goldmine level's music is beautiful, I love it so much

Nitro Rad, Scott the Woz, Chadtronic, Brutalmoose, and PeanutButterGamer make my day.

I LOVED this game as a kid and even own retro hardware just to play this game again recently.
I love your thumbnails, my favorite being the Glover one.
This was another game I played as a kid alongside Frogger 1. I played the PC version and also had a lot of fun with it.
*"I Am Absolutely Stoked To See What A Train Wreck This Is This Is Gonna Be."*
I laughed so hard lol! 😂😂😂
This was my first video game as a kid! This is so wild to see honestly.
Here's some words what will probably give people who played this game PTSD flashbacks:
-Research Lab
-The Infernal Machine
-Lava Palaver
-*Windup*
This is my childhood game here. My first PC game as well. I still have the disk, surprisingly enough. Works fine a bit, but I do want a new PC to try to play it again.
little correction: Inputs are not only collected in between frames or during a specific moment in delivering a frame to a screen. The inherit lag of 30 fps is because there is less visual information for you as a player to process and new visual information takes longer to appear and not because inputs are collected and recognized at a lower rate. In fact, each button press interrupts a CPU always.
Besides that, great review.
Frogger 2: Swampy strikes back
I only had the GBC version growing up, and played it on a GBA. Being born in the late 90's, I had just missed the retro console train. This looks loads better. Can't wait for you to get to "The Rescue" and the GBA games of Frogger. Those bring back memories.
