Pale Folklore is one of the best drinking albums. Legit, go outside on a cold winter evening, sit by a campfire with a tin of a whiskey, chuck on Pale Folklore and just stare into the flames. Trust me, not many experiences can top it.
Agalloch will always be my favorite band. I've watched this interview many times and it's amazing. John is a very cool guy. I have a feeling he's not a party-hard guy. He has a good understanding of life and good friends. :)
Ive found this band about 8 years ago, This group influenced me so much in music and guitar especially, never had the chance to thank them personally, i guess im not the only one and with that I hope they understand how much of an impact they made on the scene... a scene that maybe they made without even trying to... Such an inspiring art.
Absolutely love the description dude gives in the beginning of the interview about what he was looking for in the naming of the band!!! Also when he describes going into the studio and the instructions he gave to the producer!!! That's very close to what I picture listening to them!!!
Haughm's explanation of Pale Folklore sounds spot on. The production and aesthetic of the works on that album always made me feel like I was lost in the snowy woods at night.
You rule dude. This is the first time ive seen an Agalloch video interview. I hope you will upload the rest when you have some time. Thanks again for this, made my day.
I've been listening to Joy Division obsessively for the past 4 months or so. Now I've been listening to Agalloch a lot lately and it's been years since I've listened to them so much. I was surprised to see his shirt as soon as the video loaded up, haha. I have the same one, actually!
I've been listening to them since 2004 as a high schooler and I've been always so poor that could not afford attending a single gig of theirs. The very first week that I got my first job and was ready to spend my earnings the way I wanted, they announced their split.
ah, here we go: "I just want to live in a log cabin in some forgotten, snowy woods, sitting next to a fire while smoking a pipe and listening to Agalloch for the rest of my days"
AAA - triple A, Absolutely adore Agalloch! Nice to see a shout out to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. After hearing that comment I can kinda feel that influence from their music, Nick Cave being very unconventional but writing great morose songs that really grab you.
Such a great story to this band. Like, honestly, I think at one point I kind of thought this kind of thing would ruin the mystique of their music and image I had so far but the deeper I've gone the more deeply I appreciate them and their music and everything about the Agalloch project.
I call them Blackgaze, but theirs is a deeper definition than just Black Metal and Shoegaze. Black Metal is their bread and butter, but they always gazed into other genres and wove those observations into their tapestry.
John is wearing an old-school iron Mjolnir over a Joy Division shirt...it doesn't get much more epic with that. Not to mention the backdrop. Incredible interview!
I feel guilty just taking such rad music suggestions from John without giving any. I think you’d really like some New Age artists based on your music and tastes like William Aura, Steve Roach, Yanni, David Arkenstone, Davol, and Forrest Smithson.
Ulver is great. they did black metal folk fusion kinda stuff early on (a few months before Berzum did might I add) but later did a few diffrent genres and experimented around with everything. They did a R&B/trip hop album in the 90s with a bit of Jazz mixed in called predition city that I liked a lot. they did a lot of ambient that I don't really care for but also a really cool trance album. and a few hard rock/classical albums and have worked with sunn-o on multiple occasions and really helped to establish that genre.
Fields of Nephlims lead singer were in a low budget horror film called HARDWARE. this is why I am aware they exist. I love HARDWARE mostly for its visual element
Its like. A whole song, I dont know where you get these parts from, its just She Painted Fire Across the Skyline...no parts. At least not the record I have.
epa ja ouço black metal desde os 4 ou 5 anos e esta banda ja ouço 2 anos esta banda podesse dizer que brutal como os emperor.o tema que curto mais e obviamente i am the wooden doors
many people have a strange concept of the music, these guys just play their composition, thats why i use to say that to be a poser with long hairs means nothing into metal and music sometimes. Composition is the most important thing and their records are great even if each members of this band do not have a particular look. Music is the most important thing & they really captured the real essence of what they wanna do...

This band is just about the greatest band to ever hit the universe.
You was right bro
The Mantle's "endless possibilities" are what make it Agalloch's greatest masterpiece.
And Pale Folkore
I love this band. No bad albums. Such adventurous music.
I met John Haughm while working on his guitar converting it to a baritone, really nice guy, and very down to earth.
Rip Agalloch :^(
Absolutely amazing, powerful band. I love their album The Mantle.
the mantle is a perfect album
John is intriguing, he seems like an old soul; and yet so young at the same time. Interesting person.
My favorte band, i love it so much, thank you guys for existing and make my days better!
mine too.
this and the bug. two very diffrent projects but similar in the focus of aggression and atmospherics.
those are the two things I'm really into right now I mean.
This is a great feeling, keep Agalloching :D
+Anavicking I will :D
I heard about these guys when I was going through hard times and it was perfect timing to help me get through my depression. I respect these guys alot
I can’t believe I get to see them tomorrow 🖤✨
Agalloch will always be my favorite band. I've watched this interview many times and it's amazing. John is a very cool guy. I have a feeling he's not a party-hard guy. He has a good understanding of life and good friends. :)
Knowing we are not getting anymore Agalloch music makes me sad :(

The metaphor of the cabin suits really well with Agalloch music
Yay! Joy Division t-shirt! Man this guy is awesome.
The Mantle is just incredible. Your music inspired me, John. Thank you for what you achieved with this band.
Haughm's explanation of Pale Folklore sounds spot on. The production and aesthetic of the works on that album always made me feel like I was lost in the snowy woods at night.
Pale Folklore is still their best work I think...
Justin Pudelek I agree
The Mantle is their magnum opus.
@@wolfstar675 No, Ashes Against the Grain is their magnum opus, especially with Scars of the Shattered Sky
and The Mantle
@@xXRaocnumDudeXx agreed
Johns voice is so amazing, whether he's talking or singing
This band is absolutely wonderful.
Agalloch may have the most passionate and trustworthy cult following ever.
You rule dude. This is the first time ive seen an Agalloch video interview. I hope you will upload the rest when you have some time. Thanks again for this, made my day.

Brilliant band; such a deep well of diverse musical influences and a fearless attitude has led to a truly unique sound.
I've been listening to them since 2004 as a high schooler and I've been always so poor that could not afford attending a single gig of theirs. The very first week that I got my first job and was ready to spend my earnings the way I wanted, they announced their split.
I know what you mean, man. Pale Folklore takes up such a special place in my heart. My go-to album when shit happens.
I just think it's so cool that that image was transmitted exactly through the music. That's such a rare thing for ANY kind of communication.
Thanks for uploading this interview. It gives a lot of insight into the band.
ah, here we go: "I just want to live in a log cabin in some forgotten, snowy woods, sitting next to a fire while smoking a pipe and listening to Agalloch for the rest of my days"
I just heard them for the first time last month. I became an instant fan.
So I've loved this band what must be 13 years now. He has a Joy Division shirt on. Didnt think I could love them more but apparently I can
Respect!. Pale folklore is such a beauty. Thank you.
AAA - triple A, Absolutely adore Agalloch! Nice to see a shout out to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. After hearing that comment I can kinda feel that influence from their music, Nick Cave being very unconventional but writing great morose songs that really grab you.

Thanks for the upload, didn't get chance to buy the DVD yet but i look forward to getting it even more so now. :)
god they look so young
he namedrops all my favourite music
Black metal, neofolk and Cave! no wonder i love agalloch!
I saw them live again just a few days ago. Literally the best band around these days.
Essa entrevista é ótima... a seriedade que o Haughm transmite é sensacional.
Giovanna Chiandotti sim, Haughm é um músico fascinante
Been enjoying their music for the past 5 years, and now I'm happy to find that they're pretty humble, yet intelligent folk. Go figure.
Unknown Pleasures.
Thank you Agalloch!
I'd love to hear modern Agalloch's re-interpretation of Pale Folklore.
The most inspiring interview.
First heard these guys on Pandora ironically. Just found out they're local! That's crazy. Really need to listen to more of their stuff. I'm impressed.
Loved this band, sucks their not together anymore
Very special band.
The Mantle is one of my favorite records of all time, can not have a cd collection without it.
I wish they were still together
The greatest music
I've never been a fan of bands or music defining someone, but damn... This band is so close to doing so.
Super! Great guys Agalloch!
And for those speaking of goth and emo. My gerne definition for AGALLOCH: Melodic Black Metal.
Glenn Miesch Thank you for the distinction. This is how I categorize them when I try to explain the band to people.
I call them Blackgaze, but theirs is a deeper definition than just Black Metal and Shoegaze. Black Metal is their bread and butter, but they always gazed into other genres and wove those observations into their tapestry.
one of the most awesome bands out there
You was right
great band!!! thanks!
John is wearing an old-school iron Mjolnir over a Joy Division shirt...it doesn't get much more epic with that. Not to mention the backdrop. Incredible interview!

This is such an inspiring video.
agalloch is my fav band, also, they dont smoke, awesome
I'm so glad all of this happened. I don't even want to think about the idea of this band never forming...
5:55 begins the most epic interview story of all time.
Me encantaría que la tradujeran
John Haughm is from Butte and Jason William Walton is from Bozeman. However they both spend a lot of time in Missoula.
I already have the 3 Full lenght and I will get this DVD for sure :)
Were did you get it???
as if the music wasn't enough to make me love this band
i have the same joy division shirt, nice!
No problem! Will upload the rest soon.
What is the third band he mentions: Fields of the Nephilim, older Katatonia and what???
Awesome! I really need to get that dvd. Could you post some of the songs from it? Not all of them but just a couple so that I can see how it is
What does Don say on minute 4:55????? I can't understand him
No band paints a picture as well as Agalloch
Godspeed You! Black Emperor, FUCK YEAH!
such an inspring album
What album are they talking about at 7:00?
What song is playing at the beginning? sounds nice.
Damn fine influences Agalloch has: Swans, Joy Division, Ulver, GY!BE, Sol Invictus, Katatonia. does anyone know which part of Montana they lived in?
do not ask what songs are.
listen to them all.
What's the song playing in the background at 3:50 ??
it is but i'm still curious about what sort of things they'd do with it
@GitarrSnubben666
Det är "The Melancholy Spirit" från Pale Folklore.
4:30 What band is the last he listed. I know for Katatonia and Fields of Nephelim, but what is the last band?
+Anton Tipura He said "early Ulver work"
I love fields of the nephlim so thats really a good sign.
Ulver is great. they did black metal folk fusion kinda stuff early on (a few months before Berzum did might I add) but later did a few diffrent genres and experimented around with everything. They did a R&B/trip hop album in the 90s with a bit of Jazz mixed in called predition city that I liked a lot. they did a lot of ambient that I don't really care for but also a really cool trance album. and a few hard rock/classical albums and have worked with sunn-o on multiple occasions and really helped to establish that genre.
they really do a lot of cool stuff. well worth checking out pretty sure there's an Ulver album for just about everyone.
Fields of Nephlims lead singer were in a low budget horror film called HARDWARE. this is why I am aware they exist. I love HARDWARE mostly for its visual element
to me too full sentimental music
Its like. A whole song, I dont know where you get these parts from, its just She Painted Fire Across the Skyline...no parts. At least not the record I have.
Fields Of The Nephilim ! Don't know where to place them...melancholic gothic rock maby?
@NaturReise i know that feeling. haughm and anderson are the closest things to role models i ever had.
Agalloch i ear black metal when i was 4 years old and i ear your band like 2 years and now i have 14 years old what can i say im a blackmetal kid \m/
epa ja ouço black metal desde os 4 ou 5 anos e esta banda ja ouço 2 anos
esta banda podesse dizer que brutal como os emperor.o tema que curto mais e obviamente i am the wooden doors
She Painted Fire Across The Skyline part 1
The mantle is the best album \m/ agalloch for ever
Jesus.. Joy Division and Beherit.. LOVE
what is the name of the first song in the background?
PRATIK1900 The Melancholy Spirit
Beherit shirt?? at 2:10?
Whats the song at 6:10
hola gente, alguien podría su titularlo plis

@DarkHypocrisy
they also got a pretty 'goth metal' album, its called ZOON
johns voice sound like maynard
Song at 4:30?
Agalloch is pronounced with a K at the end? My whole life was a lie :O
I used to pronounce it wrong too
