Unlocking the Power of Hip Action in Your Golf Swing: Tips and Technique

  • "You have to clear the hip" you might have heard before. And also "you have to turn more with your lower body". I watched so many people trying to turn and and trough that to clear the left side (for right handers). But mostly the try is not working well. Clearing the left side is given and there are many ways of doing it.
    In this video I show you a few ideas, how I would do it and what I think on the course that it works for me!
    Have fun practicing!

    So helpful, this is currently my number one issue, lifting my head and shoulders too early. Thank you Martina for this perfect explanation.

    Another simple, straight forward articulate video of one aspect of the golf swing. I’ve been playing golf 55 years and fifty of those at 3 or less handicap and this is the best golf channel on UA-cam ! Keep ‘ em coming!

    Thanks, Marina. The hip turn is probably the most difficult part of the golf swing to explain. You did a very good job in givingus some feels that should benefit our swing.

      Thank you Brian, glad you like it. Yes it's very important to think of the hip, but its more important to practise the right stuff!

    thankyou again martina, this video really explains some
    fundamental problems really clearly about the right way to
    move the hips,the left knee simply flexes towards the ball as
    the right hip moves back helps me also with clearing the left side ,
    all the left leg has to do is ..straighten as the swing progresses,
    with little or no lateral shift /sway off axis,👍brilliant😊

    Got to say following on from watching this video I went out this evening for a quick 9 holes practice, concentrated fully on getting my right hip back, what a result, ball then turf and arrow straight, clearly stops me from standing up. thanks

    Well explained (and a unique explanation). I will correct my vernacular that the hips don't turn like the upper body (shoulders) do. I like that you have to "build space" for the hips/buttocks to accommodate the upper body rotation. More of a horizontal movement than inclined. It is sort of non-intuitive because most everything else is on an inclined plane, one would think the hips would be too. Hips are key to me (foundational power), and never been fully satisfied with this part of my swing, so am excited to give this a try. Thanks Martina.

    This is a great detailed hip turn video! One quick question, do you "fire" your trail hip at all or only turn up with your front hip and let the trail hip follows. Thank you in advance!

    • @martina_eberl_coaching_en
      @martina_eberl_coaching_en  3 місяці тому

      It is very dangerous to fire the trail hip... Please watch the video about the 4 positions in your swing of the living room exercises... Then you know why! Never turn....

    Hi Martina! As usual a great instruction. Really easy to see right or wrong moves. I try too use the thought off cover the ball too maintain the angles in the swing. Do you recommend to use the same thought using the driver?
    Thank you!

    • @martina_eberl_coaching_en
      @martina_eberl_coaching_en  7 місяців тому +1

      I know what you mean Peter. I like to stretch my left side more with the Driver. With the Driver you don't wanna be low with your upperbody while impact, due to the ballposition and the intention to hit up on it! Keep it with the irons- thats better!

  • @bettyhughes2084

    The hip motion is a combination of turn with tilt of both the shoulders and the hips. In fact the tilt of the shoulders and of the hips is the same motion. The tilt always comes first.

    • @martina_eberl_coaching_en
      @martina_eberl_coaching_en  7 місяців тому

      This is exactly what I explained in my video about the turn. Finally this video is an idea of how to avoid the early extension and there are a few of them. Ask Tommy Fleetwood, one of the best ball strikers at the moment I guess, what he initiates at first in the downswing!

    Martina as I’m practicing the transition as you demonstrated, can you comment on what your trail foot is doing? Do you tend to roll the right ankle to start the weight transition? I’m conscious to strive to prevent my right knee pushing the club further out and hitting close to the hosel. Thank you.

    • @martina_eberl_coaching_en
      @martina_eberl_coaching_en  4 місяці тому

      Absolutely is rolling the right idea. Also good to think: the right hip needs to get underneath the left hip towards the impact! Let me know if this picture helps!

    Hi Martina, So, once I've completed by backswing, I start the down swing by straighting my left leg. Bascially pushing the heel down if raised while maintaining my spine angle. Do you see any issues with that, it seems to be working fine. The only swing thought is my target, once my set up is complete. I really enjoyed your lesson on swinging with a purpose, I cant tell how many bucket of balls I aimlessly hit. Glad to see you back running again. 🏃‍♀🏃‍♀

    • @martina_eberl_coaching_en
      @martina_eberl_coaching_en  7 місяців тому

      Hi Roy, thanks for following me on Insta as well :). Your thought is absolutely fine. I am always careful saying "only" straightening cause, the weight supposed to get transferred to the front foot too. But mostly, if you push down the front heel, it's happening. So I guess you are doing absolutely fine!

    36 yrs playing? What did you start at 2 yrs old?? I worked on this hip/butt back move with the chair drill I learned from watching Russell Heritage. So important to create that space and not get closer to the ball!
