It's also worth pointing out that the odds of being shot at school are even significantly lower in every other developed country not named the USA

At this point it's not even on the shooters. It's on us. All of us. We're all to blame for this.
As I'm writing this, a different high school right down the street from me is on lockdown. Every single day we sit by and do nothing, we allow this to happen. No one cares anymore. This is just normal now. We have allowed this to be our reality because we don't care when children are killed until they are our own.
We're now experiencing nearly two mass shootings per day in this country. The shootings will continue until we decide that enough is enough. Unfortunately I don't think we ever will. People seem content to play the mass shooting lottery every day we leave our houses.

Now, the last part of your statement, that might have some cause as if both parents are often working then it does becomes harder to raise kids, have positive moments with them, and perhaps allow a safe space for them to discuss any concerns they have.

Put metal detectors in all schools at this point. Most inner-city public schools have metal detectors in middle and high schools just based on the demographics. I remember having to go to school a little early because of the delay in going through metal detectors. They put them in place because two former students who had a rivalry had died from gunshots nowhere near the school. My high school was a Vocational Tech School and students came from all over, but the location, required us to have metal detectors.

How about take a moment and think why shootings weren't as common before Columbine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, and Parkland? Untreated mental illness, lack of care for others' well being, News & Media 15 minutes of fame for the suspects, and violent video games are all to blame.
They keep blabbing about school officially starts at 7:55am but shots were 7:40am. School was officially OPEN. Why this big distinction? Most kids are in those buildings long before first bell. They go to cafeteria breakfasts, gym sports, hang out in library, etc. Most high schools doors open at 7:30am or sooner.
@@Xochitl-ii2cs Quite the opposite actually, I went to this school and there were always plenty of people in the cafeteria or just milling about in the halls before classes started. Not sure if that changed, but if it didn’t I’m surprised the casualties were so few.

I was in first grade at an elementary school in Connecticut on December 14, 2012. I was in the bathroom at Sandy hook elementary school. 2 minutes before it happened i walked out of the bathroom to see someone shooting the glass of my schools front door i was lucky enough that he didn't see me i lost 4 friends we were all 6 years old and i never stepped foot in a school again if this is still going something NEEDS TO CHANGE

My wife works in a country school where 75% of the families have guns.
And it crosses my mind more than once. Am I going to get a call saying A gunman walked in the her school. I guarantee you would change your mind if it was your child's school or your spouse's place of employment that got shot up..

I have to remind the Public that our adult Government officials in there secured federal, state and local and court buildings that are secured with metal detectors and security guards and anti bomb barricades are doing the best they can to prevent this from happening again and again and again !! They are Nice and protected so they shouldn't have to worry about this kind of thing happening to them while they address this serious issue of our own kids being targets !! I mean I'm sure that they'll figure out a way to keep our kids safe at schools !! since these type of shooting don't happen to these government buildings .SMH 😤😤 The grown ups protect themselves more then they protect our Kids !! A Father said his 15 yr old son was in the hallway , got hit by a bullet in the back and arm , fell to the floor , got up and ran into a classroom and hid and called his Father . The Father immediately drove to the school , met up with his son and "Drove him home and cleaned him up " .
Thankfully it turned out the bullet had just grazed him but seriously are school shootings and your child getting shot so common that parents dont even bother taking their kids to the hospital to be checked ????
