  • I watched Saving Private Ryan for the first time and it is about a group of American soldiers dispatched to locate Pvt. James Ryan so he can return home after his three brothers have been killed in battle.

My grandfather hit the beach in Normandy. If it wasn't for men like him, we wouldn't be here enjoying the freedoms we have!! It doesn't matter how many times I see it. It gets me. He passed in 1996, ! R.I.P. grandpa!!! Thank you! And thank you for the reaction!

If you noticed, there was a banner hanging in the Mother's window with 4 blue stars. This was a thing in WWII that a family would display to indicate that they had that many people in the service. If they were killed, then you got a banner with gold stars for each killed. You became a "Gold Star" mother.

Everyone hates upham for not helping melish out when he was hand to hand fighting that German in that room but the reality is that stuff like that probably happened all the time. When your in combat, it brings out the true person in everyone. I remember the first time we made contact in Afghanistan, there was a dude in my platoon that looked like the army made him in a lab somewhere. Tall, strong, good looking, and the best at everything he did, but when the bullets started flying he lost it. Crying and hollering and begging to be taken away. My point is, no one knows how they’ll react the first time you get into combat. The most you can do is hope that you’ll be able to do what needs to be done. Anyway, good reaction bro and good luck on your channel. Definitely a fan so far. Keep it up.

The M1 Helmet (steel, with a resin over fabric liner) will NOT stop a bullet. It is for protection against shrapnel, and other indirect fire. Even today's Kevlar helmets will not stop a direct hit.

A lot of those guys "couldn't" or didn't necessarily want to do it either. But they were called on to serve and serve they did. In wartime its not always your choice whether or not you go

I joined the army when I was 17 with my parents permission/sigs. I was so gung-ho but probably not so great a soldier as I was naive and had a fools courage. I never saw action as nothing ever popped of during my service and this me is grateful for that. It is an odd duck to watch movies like this (fiction) and compare it with what you now about yourself (also partly fiction).

6:24 It is very clear you have a very good guy vs bad guy understanding of movies. You have to understand many of the soldiers in the war were forced (drafted) to go into that war, and that not everyone agreed with the side that drafted them. The ones surrendering aren’t even German. They were Czechoslovakian

As many times as I have seen this movie I still never understand why wade went on the assault, I get having the medic there on a long assault but where opium was he could get to them in like 39 secs he should of taken opiums weapon at least (yes medics carry rifles they are not chaplains) or stay back at rally point. No reason for him to have died

In real life, an officer would pretty much NEVER use their medic that way. For one thing, it is against the Geneva convention to use medics in the attack like that...but also the medic is too important to use like that, and Upham would have been used first, despite his relative uselessness due to inexperience. So you are correct about everything...except medics were not supposed to carry rifles...they could carry pistols and carbines, at least that was the way the US handled it.

@@iKvetch558 maybe you are right about WW2 and medics but medics carry weapons today and there are no rules against them using them. However that’s not there job they are there to work on casualties

Dang...they took it down again! Those you know whats! OK...liking and posting to match...sorry they are making it so tough for you.
Saving Private Ryan is incredibly realistic in most every way, with a very few exceptions...such as bullets not being able to kill you more than a few inches underwater, and flamethrowers not really exploding that way in 1944. One thing to know, pay no mind at all to that man who took off his helmet on the beach at 4:28 and then got shot in the head...that next shot would have killed him even if he had kept his helmet on. The helmets of WW2 would almost never stop a bullet, except under very very rare circumstances.
The movie is not a true story, and it differs from the actual history of D-Day in many ways...but the basic plot is loosely based on the 4 Niland Brothers, one of whom served with the 101st Airborne Division. However, when 3 Nilands were reported dead, no mission was sent to get the last brother, and it turned out that one brother that had been thought dead had actually only been captured.
There really was a Company C of the 2nd Rangers that landed on Omaha Beach, but they were commanded by Captain Ralph Goranson, and they did not land quite where it was shown in the film. Probably the most important historical thing that Spielberg got wrong is that he had the boats that carried the Rangers to the beach being driven by Americans...they were not. On D-Day, the boats that carried the US Rangers to the beach were driven by UK sailors of the Royal Navy. There are many other things in the film that are not accurate to the real history of D-Day, but that one really fails to honor some of the men that fought and died at Omaha Beach, so it is definitely the one most worth noting.

30 mins for a 3 hour epic movie? Go see regular reactions with 100k views in 2 days. The reason nobody watches reactions less than 45 minutes for a 2h movie so you can't edit anything your channel is doodo ( 3h movie is 50 minutes min )
