I mean, to be fair, maybe inadequate as a musician, or maybe even a human. That is a monster set - from pointing out the political tomfuckery of a nation, to asking for one's hand in changing it, to asking/saying - let's resolve this? Incredible arrangements, the guy can sing with the best of them (his falsetto slays me), the lyrics are dense and heady - all of this to say, why stop at being a guitar player? The guy has so much more going on that "just" that.

I feel like Lamp Lit Prose is one of the most underrated albums this year. These songs are incredibly intricate, yet still so catchy. Beautiful acoustic renditions here. Thanks NPR!
To know that these songs sound as good live and acoustic as they do on the recorded versions makes me appreciate this band lot more. Fantastic session.
My favorite part of "That's a Lifestyle" is the call-and-response hocket/syncopation: "That's a-" "Product" "That's a-" "Brand" "That's a-" "Lifestyle"...so cool and so poppy somehow
I keep coming back to this, and each time I find more to love! Super talented people, talking about some heavy stuff in a beautiful way. Very grateful for this performance
So, so original and moving, mostly because of how deep he goes into composition and strange harmonies and melodic pathways. This album should be winning every award...I can't take it much longer with the mediocre running the world. It is not difficult to call this guy a genius.
The first song I heard from Dirty Projectors was "Little Bubble" and I listened to that song about 30 times within 2 days. The closest thing I had heard to this type of music were some of Ben Folds' work with other artists. It's a splendid originality, intricacy, without being flashy.
I had a similar moment with Gimme Gimme. I saw them perform it in their take away show and was literally floored that the hocketing part was actual human voices that It was on repeat for me long past an appropriate time to obsess over a song.
nialldcrowley I like “Rise Above”, and “Swing Lo Magellan” is great, but the others aren’t as strong IMO. I think Dirty Projectors are a band which grows and gets better, which is awesome!
@@sealevelbear I struggle with anything pre-Rise Above, but have really got into Bitte Orca and now it's probably my favourite. I just bought the EP About to Die, which came out before Swing Lo - there are some great songs on there, quite raw and Beatles-like. And then there's Mount Wittenberg Orca with Bjork guesting. That's full of wonderful vocal/harmony driven songs. Love also the self-titled album.
Conor Logan hard for most quintessential hipster band ever to be considered underrated. You know what’s underrated? Maybe a busker down the street where you live
Came back here after watching their Tiny Desk Home concert. Love this performance but I really like the energy on the newest concert too, even though it was all done in quarantine
Dave Longstreth & the Dirty Projectors, what an awesome band! whatever its different line-ups through the years: Always fully creative music! Great NPR session too, smiled to the approval of J.S Bach's puppet at the very end ;-)
Great set and performance of some great tunes! I'm only kind of disappointed that the background singers don't get the same place on the album because they're great and Longstreth didn't even leave such a place to his guest stars. Would be really a better album with more place for other voices than his (just like here on "That's a lifestyle").

Love these tiny desk concerts..... such beautiful, emotional performances ..... me and a friend are going to do a similar thing on my UA-cam channel ..... inspired 💕

Jarrod K totally agree!! It’s just as good as Bitte Orca if not better
I'll get slain, but the self titled from 2017 is absolute mayhem and remains in my top five albums of all time.
These arrangements are so intricate
This is other le el of armonizing. Pretty impresing
We're hitting peak Longstreth. He's better than ever. Love it!

There he goes, one of Gods original prototypes considered too complicated for mass production. Pure genius.

Truth.

Thanks for saying "hocket." Learned something new.
Agreed! It works so well
Could ironically be a great commercial jingle ;-)
The extremely talented Mr. Longstreth has surrounded himself with a fine band of musicians here. Really enjoyed hearing this intimate session.
I like this 100000000 times more than the studio recordings. This is so raw and impressive
The backing vocals have seen so many incarnations over the years. As much as I miss Amber and Olga, this is by far my favorite trio.
One of the most original groups of late. I love how their sound is so unapologetic
The depth of sounds is sooooo wonderful!!! These sounds are alive in the universe!
I'm hypnotised. They play so well together. beautiful voices.

I hope this doesn’t sound silly, but this performance moved me to tears. Truly brilliant stuff here. ❤
Not silly. Me too
what a talent, he has a true David Byrne vibe, but absolutely not in a rip off way. Just a similar energy and genius ear for composition
I thought that too, but maybe just 'cause he kinda looks like him lol
Conor Logan I totally agree about Byrne.
They did a track together called "Knotty Pine"
Definitely a big influence
autistic acting white boys all look the same
Always a pleasant surprise, but this time I can think of a lot of people who are gonna be real excited to see this.
You’re right!
That’s A Lifestyle is such an intricate and complex song. Amazing set, as usual.
i love the dirty projectors because their sound is unique and eccentric!
The best tiny desk performance I've seen. My god.

Tiny Desk and Dirty Projectors...Match made in heaven!! +NPRMusic
Somehow, that's exactly what I needed this morning. Thank you, NPR!
His voice is amazing
That was so amazing! Thank you NPR for having them. I totally loved every second of it. So entranced, so beautiful.

So, so very excellent. Their musicianship and energy is outstanding 😊
Wow
I was so impressed by 'Break Thru' from the same album already.
Exceptionally good here.
YES! I've been hoping for them to be on Tiny Desk! Can't get enough of their newest album
Just saw Dirty Projectors tonight in NYC. Amazing show... Just Genius.
Thanks to Questlove's NY interview..Where was I? Under a rock. They are excellent!!
