9:28 yes! i’m so glad you said this. i hate the narrative that people who are offended by your boundaries are only trying to use and abuse you. it was hardest for me to accept other’s boundaries when i was a people pleaser and didn’t have any myself. i thought giving in was “being nice” so when one of my friends suddenly started setting boundaries i thought they were being mean and trying to distance us. i couldn’t understand why someone would say no to their friend because i didn’t understand preserving your peace. and it’s funny bc i can see the same thing happening with my family now that i set the boundary that they need to text before they call and i don’t pick up the phone at night. they likely don’t have any boundaries around answering the phone so they’re shocked and hurt when i set them. they just want to talk but they don’t see how tired i am or that their phone call impends on me winding down for the night. not because they’re constantly calling to borrow my money and services, although i know that’s the case for some people who actually are being used.
