  • This Singer model 66 started out as a dusty and grimy mess but ended up as one beautiful and useful sewing machine.

I actually used tung oil shot thru an airbrush to "renew" the finish on this particular machine. Sounds kind of odd but the decals were in great shape but the clear coat was quite shot in places. It was water sanded with 400 or 600 grit paper between coats. The tung oil did a great job of evening out the rough spots and dried to a nice hard finish. The owner sent me a few pics recently and it appears to be holding up nicely.

What did you use for the clear coat on this machine?

I thought a 1910 Singer, 66 Red Eye would have the back clamp presserfoot.

ok so did you re-paint this one, or just do another clear coat? If so I would love to learn how to do that to mine. Can you help please. Thank you. I have 21 machines. All cleaned and all working but one, it needs a re-wire. But I would love to know how to put a new clear coat on my vintage gals and guys. Can you do that to all of them or just the ones that have a clear coat on them already. I mean I have two machines that have been hand painted like a Davis and a singer 27 lots of missing paint on the Singer 27 But the Davis has only 2 small places. What would you suggest?

I have this same machine, and I was going to ask the same question as Briar Boy how did you get your medal so shiny? I have used Mother's polish, Weiman polish, chrome polish even baking soda paste and mine is shiny but not like this. Please share.

Great vid. I was wondering if anybody knows how I can find out the model # and year of my red eye based on this # G8027712. It's the only # I see on my Machine.

Gabriel Solano It is a Singer 66 from 1920. Does it have a rear or side attaching presser foot? That's the year they changed over. If it is rear clamping, it's a 66-1. Here is a link to the serial number database:
