    Is the iconic irohazaka from jump actually possible, or is it initial d’s biggest gimmick?
    Now don’t worry if you’re having a bit of deja vu, you’re probably not going insane. Because this is a question that I’ve already tried and failed to answer on my channel before. Let me give you a quick recap..
    I loaded up Assetto Corsa's Irohazaka Touge in the yellow mister2 and began descending the slope. I didn’t initially know which corner the jump was actually performed on, so I firstly needed to go on a recon run to scout out potential corners, and decide which i’d try it on. This was my first crucial mistake, and I’ll tell you why a little later. I actually found two corners which seemed suitable for the irohazaka jump, and I set off attempting it.
    I spent hours attempting the irohazaka jump on these corners, and it wasn’t easy. I’d either not rotate the car enough to set myself up for the jump, and ended up going the hairpin as usual. Or, I’d rotate too much and hit the guardrail. And even if I got the setup right, once I landed, the car just bounced everywhere, and I even yeeted over the guardrail and fell into the assetto corsa netherworld. As a result of my failure, i abandoned the challenge.
    A few weeks later, I knew I had to try this technique again, I had invested far too much time and effort on that video to abandon it *sunk cost fallacy*.
    And after a small break, I felt refreshed. As a result, I finally made some headway on the irohazaka jump. I had finally sussed out the technique for lining the car up for the jump. I simply had to drift the previous hairpin and hold off the transition all the way until it was time to do the jump. And that point, I had to rip the handbrake and let weight transfer put in the work. And yes, I managed to successfully do the irohazaka jump.
    No, just kidding. After hours of attempts over multiple months, I never managed to successfully do an irohazaka jump. My car was just bouncing all over the place upon landing. So, begrudgingly, I made a video, stating the irohazaka jump was in fact, a humongous gimmick, and it wasn’t actually possible.

      It has to be dark blue, and you got to drive a like kart driver (Go search a youtube video, someone had did it already in a real car, no shift at the entry but a rather low gear with high RPM turn). Of course, your car suspension needs to be set to accommodate such high jump (we are talking about a near 3-4 ft landing of jump) at the first two hair pin

      i think the main issue people have with not being able to ""do it well"
      is, ITS AN ANIME the jump it self is always exaggerated. i was a local legend in my own right. and the things people told me that i did was laughable.

      @@dbspaceoditty it’s not the skid plate, it’s the travel of the suspension itself. Sport suspension is low travel and stiff. If you over load it, it hits the bump stop, and stresses the mounts. MR2 has oversteer but that's it's biggest advantage, it specialises in low angle, high speed drift and intense weight transfers, with the differential turning the car while on and off throttle. You generally want to slide or lift the inside front tire, as there's less weight on the front. if you slide all four, then the rear should regain grip first. The mid engine layout of the MR2 allows you to place all of the weight of the car on the outside tires.

    • @axelthegamer2470
      @axelthegamer2470 2 роки тому +12

      This makes sense as in my MR2 AW11a (1985) when i get to drift in rainy weather i always find it easier and more practical to have a low angle drift. I havent tried sending fully into a corner as i like my car and dont have any racing or drifting expirience and dont want to send it side first into a tree cause i spun out. My low power in general (140hp on the wheels) makes me really whip the car when trying to spin it around a corner.

    • @Ikaros---
      @Ikaros--- 2 роки тому +3

      @@axelthegamer2470 I wish I could own an AW11 IRL, all of my experience comes from games.
      yeah the low angle of drift is because of the mid rear layout and wheelbase. I'm pretty sure the supercharged AW11s came with a stiffer rear antiroll bar, and The mid rear layout is terrible for spins, once you go 180 degrees it's very hard to stay on the original line. it's very hard to do 360 drifts unlike an FR layout like the AE86.
      you'd probably want a limited slip differential if you're planning on attempting any sort of drifting or driving on the limit, though I'm not an expert and I'm not sure what would be compatible or how it would affect performance. if you push the outer rear tire a bit too far it won't keep sending power to the outer wheel unless the LSD compensates. I use 67% accel and 35% decel on Forza Horizon 5 for whatever it's worth.
      Maybe check out the "OverRev!" manga, it's about an AW11 the same way Initial D is about an AE86.

      @@jordanrobshaw1406 that doesn't make anything better. A rally suspension alone isn't going to make that car handle a 5 foot drop with likely an off camber landing. If the suspension is lower, then it's not going to have the travel needed to absorb the energy when it lands. It's going to slam into the bump stops, if they have bump stops, and all of that energy is going right to the frame, not to mention the energy of the engine and trans smashing into its mounts. The MR2 would either have smashed out, or with rally suspension set up specifically to handle jumps, might have survived the jumps, but them would be so high and loose it would never have kept up as the body roll would have been to much. And, I think it also fair to point out the car also lacked a roll cage, which makes it highly likely it had no chassis stiffening going on, so even with rally suspension set up for jumps, you're only getting in a run or two before the chassis starts getting twisted.
      Which brings us back to the 86. Street/sport suspension, no chassis stiffening, on a cheap street car. That car wouldn't have survive the first jump at all.

    Keep in mind that this is a game map and not the real thing. Actual racers that drive irohazaka have said that the edge is too narrow, basically there isn't room to finish the turn without running into the guardrail. That being said, the thing that likely inspired the jump (which is possible) involves running over the sloped median which can get a bit of airtime and shave off distance. It destroys your suspension and isn't very common but it's been done (according to local legend.)

    maybe try watching some initial d arcade stage gameplay of iro.
    pretty sure the approach is different.
    yours went like the anime.
    in arcade, people treat it as shorten hairpin, so you jump(fall) mid drift.

    Never tried this course on a proper sim. only places i have was the initial D arcade games, and tokyo extreme racer drift. i always thought in more realistic circumstances the car would be a huge factor in success. like a super low car with a stiff suspension wouldnt work, but more rally like cars would have an easier time. especially 4wd where the front tires that make contact first would help stabilize the car, whereas in a rwd you would have to wait until the rear comes down to begin using the throttle.

    You can use BeamNG to test out the damages the jump did to MISTER2, to conclude if it's viable irl.

    I did that jump right back in 1999 with need for. There's a track with a set of Tight hairpins And coming up to the 1st one Have you immediately started a drift early early and Dive off the side of the track before the turn you would do it 180 in the air Land on the edge of the road after the Turn slide Sideways a little bitEnding up on the inside lane Then Stand on the throttle And you had more Exit speed for the short straight to the next turn I was actually able To shave over 6 seconds Off of my laptime.

    I think you’d need to really snap it shut, and absolutely DUMP that clutch. It’s probably easier to do in GTA, as that physics engine is designed to feel physical and robust but be grossly exaggerated, like in action movies. Also good to note that a lack of barriers, and maybe a sharper embankment would be beneficial. Sadly, as GTA is set in a fictional American city similar to LA, there aren’t any Touges. Still, doing very theatrical moves like handbrake turns feels a lot more comfortable and achievable.

    Jumps are possible in a few hairpins but for the time attack, it doesn't really change much time.
    I've been preparing for a competitive tournament so I've been really studying Irohazaka for the past week. My average time is around 4 min 44~48 sec with stock S2000 A spec, Lotus Elise SC, and RBMS Sileighty. Average time attack didn't change with all successful jumps with these cars.
