Most of the reviews on UA-cam are guys that have had some time flying, which doesn't really give a sense of what this Quadcopter can or can't do. With that being said, I appreciate the review from a beginner's perspective. The before and after review of the instructions gave more understanding as to the set-up of this Syma. Lastly, the crashes added to how durable it really is. I would hate to buy something and have it break on its first lift off. Thanks again.
Just one little tip always have the drone on a level surface when you switch it on so the gyros set themselves correctly. These are great starter drones for beginner's
The Syma X5C-1 flies best outside where you have room to fly! Then you get a better test of the camera and the flips this thing can do! Learn to fly it before flying too high. You don't want to lose it in the wind. Go to hi power mode if the wind is taking it away. This thing can beat the wind. Best quadcopter I have ever owned.
David Mc do you have any opinion on the durability of these tiny gears? i'm thinking of buying one but i'm afraid i'd quickly break the gears, displace shafts or something... it'd be so much better if they just chose the right motor to mount the props directly into them.
just bought my off Amazon and expected before or on 23rd of September! can't wait. I read it's good and durable for beginners to help get into the hobby grade quadcopters.
I just got one of these today it's a great flyer and very easy to fly but don't fly it at all if it starts blinking the battery will shut off almost immediately after. But other than that the only problem I have had with it is it decided to take off on me but it only happened once. I recommend this for all types of flyers it's great for beginners and fun no matter what.
OK, let's review the reviewer first. You did a great job unpacking and examining the components carefully and going through the manual from the point of view of a novice, which I happen to be. I received an Amazon version with no manual and just an internet address for me to get on the the web site of the manufacturer to read the manual. You pointed out some nuances of assembly that were not included in the on-line manual, such as needing to screw in the guards! (I didn't see the screws and had "cleverly" rigged up some rubber bands as retainers). Next, your close-up view of the screen showed me some things that were not mentioned in the manual. Most of them I had figured for myself, but the close-up tour was great for my presbyopic eyes. It still isn't clear to me why there are two modes, other than to accommodate people accustomed to flying other types of remotes with the joysticks assigned differently. Watching a novice fly for the first time made me feel better about my own clumsy efforts. I felt more secure starting indoors, but I agree with the commenter that sooner or later it's time to go outside. I am not quite comfortable with how the "trim" controls behave. Their function is obvious. Does pressing directly downward go straight to center trim? (Not that I can see, so what does it do?) . Does the controller retain the settings if it is left on, or does the drone need to remain on too? I agree with the commenter that perhaps "Snuggles" might have been at a tad safer distance, but as a "love dogs-hate cats" person, I took some sadistic joy in it. What I did note that Snuggles had as great a fascination as did my dog on first encounter. Let's hope Snuggles doesn't attack! Overall, this was a GREAT and HELPFUL video. Please keep it up. Thank you very much for your reply. There is a mistake in the manual. Mode 1 is actually is the more conventional Mode 2. For beginners, watch for the range, control distance is just little more than 100 feet.
+eagle3x8 I suppose if aerial modded then these distances of 300m are achievable, but out of the box as you say "little more than 100 feet.........not quite 90m eh Garry......lol.
+eagle3x8 Where did you get info on range and distance control on this quad, was it from manufacturer because strangely there is no mention of range in manual??>
the difference between the syma X5C and this upgraded version is the handling in windy conditions, the X5c was rather prone to drifting away with every gust of wind and the X5C-1 had been made more stable
I purchased one a short time ago and it is very easy to learn on. I felt confident with it first time out and I'm a beginner. the camera takes great video given the cost of the craft. I have put 650 ma lipo's in it. don't know how much larger I can go and still fit the battery in but I have a ball with it when I can't get to the club field. It is very tough and will take a beating...ask me how I know...LOL
Just ordered it and a 650mAh battery 4 pack from Gearbest. Cant wait for it to get here! Hopefully I don't break it or get it broken since some people are quite aggressive towards drones.
+danermanerkider it will be difficult to break this thing. Mine has been "grounded" many times and just keeps flying. I suggest using the novice mode if you haven't flown before. If you have, go straight to expert. I'm still in the learning stages but finding this little gem a big help in learning.
danermanerkider the props have gotten scuffed up, but not so damaged they need replacing ... yet. I don't use the prop guards outdoors. If I were to fly indoors I would recommend them. You're right in that they are a little flimsy. But anyone flying for the first time should probably keep them on until they don't bounce off walls and such.
Del Quad4X Glad to hear. I have a little quadcopter I got about a week ago, but a motor randomly died so I returned it and in a few days should be getting this. Looking at how stable it is, I think it shouldn't be too hard since I have gotten the hang of flying a quad. How is the range? My biggest fear is flying it too high and losing a connection with it or a gust of wind blowing it away somehow. Thinking of buying a GPS tracker and connecting it just to be safe.
Out of the box you can figure about 100-150 feet. There are many YT videos on how to extend the range. If you're a DIY person, it's a piece of cake. I had mine get blown away while it was up about 90 feet. As it got further away the motors stopped and it dropped. So a fly away shouldn't be a problem. Not a long distance anyway. As with anything like these "toys", your mileage may vary.
19:48 Over low heat over stove, Twist the Blade guard and Hold in place till cool. It won't take much heat so be careful. You will get most of the bend out that way.
I just got one of these. I fly rc planes but this is my first copter--quite different in how to fly them. I suspect you already fly rc planes also. Very good video.
Oh Thanks! You caused me to order one of these X5C-1! The reason being, you said you never flew one (me either) but you did a very Good JOB I think,so maybe I will learn from your Video! Thanks for posting! :)
My Syma remote directional controls seem to be reversed for standard Mode 2. That is moving L stick side to side makes the copter fly sideways instead of rotating like a rudder control. Moving the R stick side to side then makes the copter rotates. Are my controls reversed? Can they be reset to standard Mode 2, where L stick controls rotation motion and R stick moves the copter sideways?
+Trevor Allen I've bounce my nano off my cats and they could care less. When I fire up any of the bigger ones, they show interest but again, could care less. My dog on the other hand ... LOL
Del Quad4X omg wow, yeah you must have chill cats cause mine just sees it gets wide eyed and darts away lol XD oh and my dog too, she gets super skittish when that happens
Trevor Allen lol. Yeah. Mine are like a bunch of stoners. Not much phases them. Of course, I've always got something going on around me, so they're used to stuff like that. I've had them since the day they were born, so maybe it's a matter of trust on their part. Who knows -shrugs- After all, they are cats LOL
Should've started with a hubsan, also I love how its kinda obvious you have to idea what it is like when you said it has six axis stabilization, literally all quads have six axis stabilization, that's what a quad is, also judging by the way you fly, its your first time
Riker Wilson I need to get back to the physics books but off the top, I don't believe all quads have always been manufactured with six axis stabilization. A simple gyroscope has three axes that denote position or motion in 3D (X,Y & Z), and I believe that 6 axis gyros have another variable associated with each of these three parameters, & as far as I can tell, it's acceleration (measured with onboard accelerometers), which roughly (or not so roughly?) is an indicator of rotation or variance from a fixed, or maybe fixed in time, or instant x,y,z. The chip may be programmed to correct for this variance with any number of algorithms, and again I'm guessing, but the C5X-1 may have a superior algorithm than the original C5X for quicker & more accurate response or correction. (Now I'm just speculating, so I need to verify this speculation or get called on the carpet for scientific laziness.) There is the need to place the quad on a fairly level surface when initiating transmitter linking, so it's consistent with (and only hypothetical for now) the ideal or "fixed" x,y,z orientation being established during the linking process.
Riker Wilson From what I've read about the Hubsan 107 or the 107C or something, you're probably right. The improved "-1" Syma, does pretty well though, and it has some structural improvements that make it less vulnerable to trauma, and although just speaking for myself, I feel I've generated enough crash data to verify this. Ryker, this isn't my area, but I'm pretty sure there are 3-axis drones still on the market, and I'm pretty sure that I learned to pilot one with the Syma X-1. The physics of this may be little rusty for you as they were for me, but if you dust off your physics textbooks with me, I believe that earlier quads addressed the pitch, roll and yaw. Remember how difficult they were to thread through the pergola? Sensitivity and feedback to each of these three axes has been enhanced with accelerometer data which means that unintended movement due to wind or anything else is at least partly compensated for to create better stability. I'm not sure if there is actual accelerometer hardware like in the old days (springs, attached to tension-measuring devices etc, but I doubt it), or whether it is completely digital, but it does make a big difference and I believe those of us who started flying by the seat of our pants on three-axis feel advantaged in a way. What I don't understand, Ryker, is the emotion of "love" you experience when someone concedes that they don't understand six-axis stabilization. You obviously have no grasp of it either, but why would you feel the emotion of "love" when encountering another person who admits he doesn't?

Like watching your lawn growing! and the guessing! So..."may be" we'll learn something But 1/2 hour, hope you're getting paid for this but not by the content... Though staid with it with fast forward and saw some better stuff within. Thanks all the same - I believe the -1 (dash 1) upgrade is pretty good
how good is video? i just ordered Syma x5c but without camera, took 3 batteries instead. did i do right)))? i plan to use keychain 808 camera i heard it is better then standard
Did syma make a newer version of this yet? or any other company? its like a year old and still popular why? isnt there some newer better one. its been a year
I just got mine. I have a question which I will likely address with Gearbest. I viewed the item on the website and ordered the X5C-1 "upgraded version". However once it arrived the title on the box states "X5C-1", the actual quadcopter and owners manual states X5C . I see you had the same situation but you never commented. Have you found out what you actually received? Has any one else had the same situation?
just got mine. the s5cs has been discontinued. Syma apparently is shipping the new model in old boxes. the difference is that the new version has a red X then 5C in black on the top of the quad body instead of black and also has 2.4G in red under that.
As I understand it, the version history of this drone goes from the Syma X5 to Syma X5C version 1 to Syma X5C version 2 and finally the newest Syma X5C-1 === If your drone says X5C then you got an old one!
Eversion means you can 'flip' it. The X5C-1 is a big improvement over the X5C which had terrible handling problems. The new version is much more stable.
Hi there. Great video, I'm looking forward to mine being delivered next week. On a slightly different note, may I ask what are you filming with? and what mount are you using to hold the device? I'm due to start making desk based videos soon but would like to know how to mount my camera looking down at the desk. Many thanks.
"looks like this... looks like that..." It really amazes me that so many people that do reviews and critiques NEVER take the time to READ the instructions before they start looking like blithering fools
Hello Alan, great video. I was wondering would you be able to tell me how to go about enabling the video on the transmitter, I have 2 Syma 5xc drones the same model .and the Large drone ! Syma X6 4-Axis 2.4G 4CH RC Quadcopter to witch im unable to get a new charger for. I just don't know when the Syma 5xc is recording, now and again I get it to record but I can never remember how I did it, would be great if anyone chould tell me thank you
hello allen my name is mark I have the same drone and I have tried everything to get the video and picks to come up on the computer a labtop and a home computer and it does not work at all what am I doing wrong can you please let me know my friend thanks
27:45 Kittycat wants to play! :3 I did the exact same thing, by the way. I never fly anything before, bought this drone today, tested it in my bedroom and was so clumsy with the controls I got it stuck around a bedpost. Luckily no damage was done. :) Fun drone, just gonna have to find me a lipo with more mah's to last a bit longer than 7-10 minutes.
It's an old model, but I bought it. Select mode 1 for stick mode. But this is not the original Mode 1. The up and down motor controls are not on the right stick. SYMA does not know mode 1. Mode 1 is standard in Japan.
yes i agree at first its hard to fly and i think they should have a app so you can see what the camera is seeing so you can see where to fly it like higher end drones
+trever pitts I am currently working on fitting my SJ4000 12mp wifi cam via velcro fittings or Gaffa tape to give me aerial view using the app on my android phone. Just trying to remove as much weight as possible first but my youtube video is nearly finished so you can do it all for less than £50.
Details, details.; Surprised to see the extra blades are not bagged? Good to see the landing skids are NOT screwed, less flying weight. I'm seeing the X5C-1 ops manual is better detailed than my just received JJRC H8C manual. :(. Like the USB recharger over the EU version that came w/the H8C, in which I just modified by soldering a whacked-off extension cord plug to the EU adapter contacts. --- I too, have not flown any qurds and read the X5C-1 was a real true starter-quad for seniors over 25. -- My copy of the X5C-1 is due in around Jan 3-25. -- What AA rechargeables are you finding to be the best? 121014. Thumbs up for your vid , Thks.
Upgraded version eh? I bought one two weeks ago from Gearbest and it came in a plain white box. Hope I got the "latest and greatest". Dude, put the batteries in the remote, then you won't have to guess as to what the controls do....
Can someone help me out. It seems no matter what I do when I power this drone up the drone tilts to the side with the SD card slot. I have the drone on a level hard surface. I tried to fly it outside and all is does is spin right to left(i think) I have no control at all. It could be spinning whatever the SD slot is facing.
+arbitterm I thought so too, but these are authentic as well, syma even confirms that on their website... as long as there is the red X and the 2.4G it s real.... and the syma logo of course!
Supposedly the right bumper only causes it to do a flip if the camera is unplugged. Otherwise it won't do it. (That's just what I've been told though, I don't actually own one yet.)
Loren Husky You can flip it with the camera on, just make sure your outside and probrobley try to be up atleast 10-15 feet because it will come down quite a bit with the camera attached.
Personal preference really. Some like to fly quads while others like to fly helicopters. There are skill levels to each. I've flown both. I feel helicopters has a higher skill level than quads. but others may differ? Happy Flying!
D. Smith do you think that quad was design to open a new market but still not better than HELICOPTER? opps caps, what is the clear difference between these two that improves flight?

Really annoying when it says 5-6mins flight time with supplied 500mah batt,....its actually 2-3mins flight time in reality, so batt upgrade is essential, oh, and that's without using the cam???.
Dude...seriously?? PLEASE DONT FLY THESE NEAR YOUT PETS FFS UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW IT WORKS. STILL CANNOT BELIEVE YOU GOT YOUR CAT TO MOVE BY STARTING UP THE BLADES.
I know, right !?! 28:09 could have totally bitten into the poor guy. Irresponsibly Endangering A Pet + Absolutely Gawd Awful Beginner Piloting Skills = I think I would be removing this video even though it has 32,000+ hits.
Lol. It's not going to hurt the cat. Calm down. Is everybody super oversensitive about everything these days or what? This is nothing. If you're so worried about the plight of animals, you should watch the videos showing rabbits and other animals being skinned alive and then discarded to suffer until they die. Now THAT warrants outrage and a post typed in all capitals. This video though, doesn't.
Loren Husky Guaranteed that a blade from ANY !!! quadcopter could gash an eye. As a matter of fact, I was doing a little indoor flying last night with one of my Estes~Proto X's and at one point it got away from me and came flying at my noggin'. I dodged it, but it manage to clip my ear before I could completely get out of the way. Now I have a small gash on my ear lobe. Nothing major, but it just goes to show that for you to assume that quad blades aren't dangerous is just plain misguided.
You made a mess my friend. Why didn't you practice before posting this which looks like the thing is uncontrollable? I have one, it is SO easy to control if you take some time first.
From what I have seen about some Chinese toys...Some decorations, like those on the bottom of your control gizmo, are just that....Impressive non function markings, for those who are impressed with looks of gagets that don't do anything!
+The Technoclast Indeed i have dropped mine from 50 feet (onto grass mind you) without a scratch. Concrete would be a different case altogether but they are so light its hard to damage em but i would keep the blade guards on its the blades that are the weak point from a damage perspective.
Maybe by now, four years later, he would have had the opportunity to use a dictionary and find out the meaning of "eversion", which he should have done PRIOR to making the video. Nothing like planning and rehearsing,,,
+NotsoJollyRancher™ If you hack the aerials then about 170 metres. Without hacking about 90m. Some guys have gotten 300m metres with extreme aerial mods!
urbanfox53 Lol you obviously havent seen chopperman and his 300 metre video with extreme 9db modded aerials - out of the box i was getting 90m - you must have bought a dud!
+Garry Gemmell Was that 90m a guestimate or did you actually measure it, and ive got no wish to fly at 300m either because of obvious problems, unless FPV of course, took back to LHS they checked it over and said it was fine, also said don't listen to ridiculous claims on YT regarding distance and range of these things.
Ill post a vid for you then we measured length of field we are using for tests we already know total length to treeline is 100m - we are doing aerial mod to see how far it will go with the mods 2.4ghz 9db gain proper handset antenna and onboard the quad new antenna so we get full wave and perhaps a lighter arduino controlled camera 5mp. Yeah totally agree on claims on YT I am using a high capacity battery so that does have an effect on distance i will give you that - im basically trying to gauge how these things operate as i plan to build my own cheap sub £100 4k quad with arduino it should be able to write the code for collision detection which no quads even the DJI or 3DR do or do well just this is the time to make money quadcopters are going to be the big money maker in the next year or so. Dunno about you but im fed up working for someone else I want to work for myself.

Does this not include a phone holder?
For the first time flying you did pretty good. Its not easy to fly in a house.
Would you have the test gear to look inside the camera and probe the board for composite video and audio
to feed a 5.8Ghz transmitter.
thanks
Ken
Very detailed. Thanks for the review
I bought mine to entertain the dog, and she loves it...lol
Did syma make a newer version of this yet? or any other company? its like a year old and still popular why? isnt there some newer better one. its been a year
Wow! Do you have a nice, calm black cat. My 18 pound black short fur would have ran as fast as he could five rooms away at the first prop spin.
Syma apparently is shipping the new model in old boxes. the difference is that the new version has a red X then 5C in black on the top of the quad body instead of black and also has 2.4G in red under
that.
Thanks for the update!
Hi there,
Will the x5c controller work with the x5c-1?
Many thanks.
Hi there. Great video, I'm looking forward to mine being delivered next week.
On a slightly different note, may I ask what are you filming with? and what mount are you using to hold the device? I'm due to start making desk based videos soon but would like to know how to mount my camera looking down at the desk.
Many thanks.
Does the "Exclusive for e-commerce" thing mean anything
Thanks for the great video bro. does it have wifi?
"looks like this... looks like that..." It really amazes me that so many people that do reviews and critiques NEVER take the time to READ the instructions before they start looking like blithering fools
great video ,hows the shipping time at gearbest compared to bang good
They're the same
Hello Alan, great video.
I scanned the qr code and it sent me to a japanese retail site where you can order parts and other things for it.
anyone know the actual, realistic range of these quads?. Ive heard of many going out of range and disappearing at about 40ft?.
27:45 Kittycat wants to play! :3
I did the exact same thing, by the way.
Ooppps 27:34 lol, thanks for the in depth review.
It's an old model, but I bought it. Select mode 1 for stick mode. But this is not the original Mode 1. The up and down motor controls are not on the right stick. SYMA does not know mode 1. Mode 1 is standard in Japan.
scanning the barcode leads you to a Chinese website which sells this drone for ¥230.00 which in US Dollars is $1.96
yes i agree at first its hard to fly and i think they should have a app so you can see what the camera is seeing so you can see where to fly it like higher end drones
+trever pitts Kind of like the Syma X5SW?
hi, which buttons for realize to stabilization mode? thanks =]
I have the remote for the X5c-1 but I have the X5C drone!! Will theses work together?
Yes
Will not for me
Version 6 is the newest C-1 and has blue light on remote. Older V5 has green on remote
Greta vid, btw! Anyone claiming it it too long, well only geeks like proper vids like this. So I do!
My unit did not come with a memory card, how do I order the part????
Upgraded version eh? I bought one two weeks ago from Gearbest and it came in a plain white box. Hope I got the "latest and greatest". Dude, put the batteries in the remote, then you won't have to guess as to what the controls do....
Can someone help me out. It seems no matter what I do when I power this drone up the drone tilts to the side with the SD card slot. I have the drone on a level hard surface. I tried to fly it outside and all is does is spin right to left(i think) I have no control at all. It could be spinning whatever the SD slot is facing.
Robert J Johncox Jr. You need to adjust the trim
Thank you. I think the blades were installed wrong. Still working on it.
Where do you get those in my half one. Thank you he is more probably by
If I took my phone sd card and put it in the camera then after recording put it back in my phone could I save it that way?
Mitch Yorkey If your phone can play the codec, yes
Is it annoyingly loud in your opinion? It sounds really loud on the video. Thanks!
I thought the X5C-1 had the -1 printed on the top of the chassis but the one in the video doesn't.
+arbitterm I thought so too, but these are authentic as well, syma even confirms that on their website... as long as there is the red X and the 2.4G it s real.... and the syma logo of course!
How did u put The battery in The helicóptero?
Also if you move the quad in any direction and press the right bumper it will do a flip. most people leave that out.
Your cat looks like Cole!
does the battery come charged?
My question is probably a general question for all Drones why not just use a helicopter instead?
Personal preference really. Some like to fly quads while others like to fly helicopters. There are skill levels to each. I've flown both. I feel helicopters has a higher skill level than quads. but others may differ? Happy Flying!
D. Smith do you think that quad was design to open a new market but still not better than HELICOPTER? opps caps, what is the clear difference between these two that improves flight?
hehe, there is always a cat "ruin" the videos. He's ok with the Syma. I wonder what does my cats when I get a drone.
Don't be fooled by the "UPGRADED" version bc it's the exact same as the original. The only real difference is the price point.
Hom much is range of controling?
This is a very good drone but I bought it on Amazon and I didn’t get a SD card.
is gearbest usa based?
🎅Who did you get that one with the camera on five
you are actually very good for a first time flier :).
btw nice cat :)
SNUGGLES :D
1 x MicroSD 2GB card
1 x MicroSD to USB reader
Was not in box-how do I order?

How do you see what's being recorded when it's in the air?
You don't. There is no live feed
Only on larger drones/quadcopters
Awesome...Pleez make a video of JJRC H31 REMOTE TOO !!
THANKS
Really annoying when it says 5-6mins flight time with supplied 500mah batt,....its actually 2-3mins flight time in reality, so batt upgrade is essential, oh, and that's without using the cam???.
I actually have a question. Other than walking and looking, how do I find my drone if I lose it?
29:06 Ya Gotta love SNUGGLES In this Video
i like the review very informational. i will like this video ;)
There pretty good for the price you pay
That's one brave cat!
How much does it cost
I'll bet the cat has seen worse (the cat looks just my daughters - she would have pounced on it (the cat, not my daughter) ) :)
my cat is fascinated by it as well strange
can anyone tell me how to start recording video in syma drone x5c-1
Sukhdev Taneja easy peasy lemon and squizy
Sorry, but I could never control mine well enough - even with constant calibration
Wow them stick movements.... its not thumb boxing bro
This is normally 100$ but I'm ordering it for 50$
You need to smoke joints be for making viseO
this guy is an amatur i knew what everything was and he had to think about it!!
You made a mess my friend. Why didn't you practice before posting this which looks like the thing is uncontrollable? I have one, it is SO easy to control if you take some time first.
How do u view the camera as u fly
Well I am sure you can't do fpv flying and I am sure you need to do some mods or as thought not able to do fpv flying
From what I have seen about some Chinese toys...Some decorations, like those on the bottom of your control gizmo, are just that....Impressive non function markings, for those who are impressed with looks of gagets that don't do anything!
+digiphot2 That's been the case for yrs regarding anything toy orientated coming out of china.
I wouldn't just let it drop from like a foot because they can be very fragile
Michael Kertson I've seen X5C-1's survive some real high drops. They're lightweight so they just bounce off the ground like a twig.
Michael Kertson I've seen X5C-1's survive some real high drops. They're lightweight so they just bounce off the ground like a twig.
+The Technoclast Indeed i have dropped mine from 50 feet (onto grass mind you) without a scratch.
Concrete would be a different case altogether but they are so light its hard to damage em but i would keep the blade guards on its the blades that are the weak point from a damage perspective.
GET THE syma X8C its way better and only 20% more expensive
Nice drone
"What did the box say?" 15.55. ;)
Maybe by now, four years later, he would have had the opportunity to use a dictionary and find out the meaning of "eversion", which he should have done PRIOR to making the video.
Nothing like planning and rehearsing,,,
How high do they usually go up
+NotsoJollyRancher™ If you hack the aerials then about 170 metres.
Without hacking about 90m.
Some guys have gotten 300m metres with extreme aerial mods!
+NotsoJollyRancher™ In reality about 20m, straight out of the box, and i'm not syma employee either.
urbanfox53 Lol you obviously havent seen chopperman and his 300 metre video with extreme 9db modded aerials - out of the box i was getting 90m - you must have bought a dud!
Dunno about you but im fed up working for someone else I want to work for myself.
guess he is not around anymore...
