@@Nyresell I haven’t worked a normal job in years. Maybe you should try dumpster diving. I’ve seen people find expensive stuff doing that. I occasionally find expensive stuff dumpster diving. Another way to get free stuff to resell is by doing estate clean outs, and foreclosure clean outs that’s where I get the majority of my inventory.

      Hello,
Sorry to hear of your situation. The comment that mentioned dumpster diving beat me to it. Some of these places that aren't hiring are probably throwing out sellable items.
Other options would be actual dumps. Since most things you'll find will be broken you'll be looking for parts
The smaller the better. An old stereo will have knobs and even the feet that can be sold. Other broken items can be sold as is for parts or repair for people who like to tinker.
Thrift shops often throw out these types of items. You can ask them or just check their trash.
You may be able to connect with a scrap yard and get small car parts like tail lights. Many places just crush everything that comes through.
Small appliance's like vacuums have sellable parts. Start looking for free things to part out and work hard at it. In a few months you'll be a pro.
Good luck and don't give up.

Dumpster dive apartments for recyclables and anything of value people throw out. Also drive through upper income housing the night before their trash is picked and look for stuff left out for trash that's sellable. You wouldn't believe what I find in my apartments trash.

Learn what sells for the most money! Go to galleries museums and take it in. Read high price auction catalogues and take it in . When your knowledge is great, go to places that do not know what they have buy low and sell very high. Do not buy low price items, and sell low.

Reselling has been really hard the last year. Everyday i question why im still doing this and what the heck is going on cos it's never been this bad before. Wish you all the luck whether you decide to quit or to find traditional full time employment. Either way, I wish you well. and Someone commented about your inventory quality. well duh if you're not making money how are you supposed to source top tier inventory. That requires money! Also, sounds like you live in an area where it might be hard to source. Best of luck to you!

@@MG-1020not necessarily... I have mostly middle of the road high end. Average price point around $50, assortment of everything from craft supplies to advertising items, cds, dvds, games, cassettes, tools, vehicle parts ... the list goes on!
I carry on average 1000 items at all times, items that sit in the store for years, and some that would actually sell within a month.
Location is big though, I live in an area where anything I ship starts at 13.00 shipping charge, does not matter the courier. Shipping rates are so high most of the time I am eating into my profits just to ship. Plus it doesn't help ebay charges fees on items and on shipping, it's crazy.
Facebook marketplace is better just that you have to weed out the no shows and the "is this available" people, but once you make a sale, it's all your money.
Be creative with your items, this fellow had action figures, I think he would make more by bundling them than trying to sell individually.
People don't have crap in their stores, they are just needing to find that creative edge to sell or get items that suit their location!

@@MG-1020 I don’t sell crap. It’s the economy, competition in reselling that didn’t exist on this level ( I’ve neen doing it for 15 years) and mostly a race to the bottom where I live. I was talking about what they said about his inventory, not mine. Only issue with my inventory is a lot of it is vintage which can be long tail depending on the type of item.

I get a ton a free stuff at transfer stations that have "Swap Shops", basically a little shack that people can put items they felt were too good to throw away but they have no use for, not every transfer station has one but normally you can find decent items to resell. Also libraries usually have a Free book cart or shelf and I find a lot of non-fiction & textbook style books that can be worth quite a bit of money.

Pine cones, empty medicine bottles (take the names off), empty toilet paper rolls, hangers, Soda bottle tops the plastic kind that screw put crafts in all the titles. If you find old clothes take off the buttons, leave the clothes. I know it's nuts but list a box of rocks, pretty ones that you have washed, people use all sorts of things for crafting. If you have a lake near by go walking around where people fish and look for lures bundle them together. Go to the food pantry for food, Some of the places will pay your rent and utilities at least once. I had a friend that started just talking to the gas station attendance, he made fronds with them and they had a deal they paid him 10.00 a night to sweep the gas station. Go down and volunteer at the local hospital or library. Always dress nice and be on time, show them you are a good worker. It could lead to something. Our community is rather snobby people that go to the "right" church get the jobs.

Let me ask you a question because people always flock to where they think the easy money is and they essentially flood that market and eventually leave because it gets destroyed.
So what happens when more and more and more people start flooding re-selling areas such as eBay, Facebook marketplace etc)
Supply rises, demand lowers for each seller due to pure volume, making it tougher to sell and your items sell for less because there are always people lowering the bar “race to the bottom”
It’s a tough business if you’re not doing it right.

I wont list anything thats under 10 dollars anymore, unless its a paper item or something small that has next to no cost to ship.
You would be able to make more consistent income if you sold as an example, sports cards since the eBay standard envelope is a thing in the US.
I reside in Canada, it costs me 1.40 to ship a single small 30 gram package (Though I was told a .25 cent increase is coming)
I started off selling iust like you, low end garbage basically from around the house, I quickly realized that in most cases making a dollar wasnt worth the time invested.
In your situation, ive seen many comments about pinecones and other garbage that sell well in lots, and has zero cost.
With the twist on bottlecaps, you could ask a local bottle exchange if they wouldnt mind keeping them for you, stuff like that really sells and year round.
Get creative, cater to the crafters, make some decent money and have absolutely no cost involved. I sold a bag 100 pieces of everyday beach driftwood for 80 bucks plus shipping, you can so the same with really cool looking rocks, and in some cases you may even find some more rarer stones.
Beach sea glass is another thing people eat up and can fetch a premium in some cases.
I pressed all of the roses off of a boquet and sold them individually for 19.95 plus shipping each.
Old used jars sell in bulk, just go hiking and take a big backpack and collect everything that looks good. You could even create natural craft kits, the possibilities are endless.
Ive sold tons of weird crap over the years, and will continue to do so.
Basically if its weird and looks kinda nice or cool people will buy it.
Acorn shells are another one, hell ive even sold pressed maple leafs that I threw in a picture frame for 24.95 plus shipping.

@@Nyresell If you don't price competitively, you lose out on money though. You can never garentee your stuff will sell so unless you have the astronomical amount of inventory to price 50,000 items at $5 or less and still profit from that, it's better to try and make a $15 profit. $1-2 profit isn't investable money. You would still be making more than that in a week's time with one sale at $15 profit. It happens, everyone has down weeks but that's more the algo's fault rather than the prices you sell at (as long as you are being somewhat competative/realistic with your pricing.
But on the other topic, see if you can do some contractor work, even if it's as simple as catering/delivering food/groceries for apps like Uber Eats/Deliverd, ect. Don't accept offers that put you in the negative, but if you are scrounging for funds, it's a great way to have some of your time spent profitably, at least until the point at which you can get a more self sustaining focus/career.

If reselling was the problem all of us would be failing. Therefore you have to examine what other variables exist in your success formula. As Long as you blame it on things you cannot control, you will never have a reason to change your tactics.
