  • Boston Sprinter was one of the TSW2 'Rush Hour' routes, and includes a measly 43 miles of track between Boston, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island (plus the little Stoughton Branch).
    This pack lets you run both Amtrak and MBTA passenger services, and in this video I'll be discussing this route and my thoughts on it.
    (You can get the route and Amtrak's Acela on Steam - NOT SPONSORED):

    I'm from Boston, and I agree that having ONLY the commuter rail is annoying. PS, yes the engines face south and the cab car north. Also, we have updated engines now.

    One thing i love about this route is how good the Acela sounds. Acela has a very distinct sound when it passes you and dovetail nailed that woosh (and the horn).

      Probably temporary given the new Orange Line cars. There are no OL cars on the route because they either broke down, caught fire or fell onto a highway (all of which have happened, sadly).

    Something I found weird about the ACS 64 is the inclusion of unit 601 and 627 which were both involved in accident's. Unit 601 is completely scrapped and unit 627 is heavily damaged but in storage at a siding. Also another mistake is that unit 600 does not have the name David L Gunn in front of it and unit 642 is not painted in the veterans livery.

    • @DC4260Productions
      @DC4260Productions  Рік тому +1

      I didn't even think of those wrecked locomotives. And regarding 642, I wonder if there were some sort of licensing restrictions preventing the inclusion of her livery (they also left out 602 and 606's special liveries).
      I won't be surprised if DTG leave out 42 and 90208 if they ever add P42DCs or NPCUs in the game.

    The MBB's were often used as they have toilets on them. Now they are almost gone except one or maybe 2 per consist. I agree the Kawasaki bi-level cars would be more realistic now, almost all NEC MBTA trains have at least 8 or 9 bi-level coaches. It's also unrealistic that NEC MBTA trains stop at Hyde Park, only Franklin/Forge Park trains do (with rare exceptions during rush hours). I don't agree with disabling cab signals though, that's a requirement under the FRA, even if you are late (and what MBTA train usually isn't? lol). I DO agree that a longer route, more engines and rolling stock and a variety of options (like the Franklin and Needham branches you mention) would be wonderful, I expect DTG didn't want to release a "Hey, drive a Needham Branch train (I have ridden it many times) and pay us $25 to do so!" and see almost no sales. An extension to Wickford Jct. or New Haven would be most welcome and enjoyed.

    Ay a review of the route from my corner of the world. Pretty much agree with everything you said. I wish they implemented the max service speed system they introduced in TSW 3 here, as MBTA trains have a max service speed of 80mph and it’s unrealistic to go higher. They actually did a really good job with the sounds. The ACS-64 is almost perfect, and the F40 is pretty good as well. The sounds were actually done with the help of The Audio Shack, who used to make sound packs for American add-ons in TS Classic. While some sounds aren’t that great, they could’ve been much worse if Dovetail did the sounds themselves. The ACS-64 back in the original NEC New York route was abysmal. So glad they redid the sounds for this add-on.

  • @potatoman451
    @potatoman451 Рік тому +8

    I personally think you are asking for too much out of dovetail. They aren't going to model a whole emu, most exterior and interior and timetable just to act as ai only. Having more than 1 piece of brand new rolling stock is not feasible. The acs64 had to be rebuilt and a whole new locomotive (f40ph-3c) and trainset and cab car had to be built. The signaling also had to receive a big overhaul. Remind you that they have deadlines as well and they can't spend forever on a product. You can't have freight running on the route because they would have to be rebuilt to include atc/acses which is just too much. Essentially rebuilding the layered in trains. Building a route is a long process. It's not just 60 odd miles to just build. You have to build the whole scenery and track and takes a really long time to build. If you think any of this is easy, then you can build it yourself.

    • @DC4260Productions
      @DC4260Productions  Рік тому +5

      I don't expect the devs to spend infinity amounts of time making a product, I just think they should spend more time on them to make sure they're as good as they can possibly be on release. As for ai-only EMUs, I'm not sure what you're referring to since I didn't bring up EMUs at all in this video. I understand that it takes a long time to build these things, but that doesn't meant I can't criticise the route when I see fit.
      Referring to what you said about me building this sort of thing myself, I've heard the 'you do better' argument before and it doesn't work because not everyone knows how to make DLC for this game. And it doesn't give critical immunity to the people who do know how to make DLC, regardless of how hard the development is.

  • @matei5929
    @matei5929 Рік тому +1

    From what I can tell it's a 2019 timetable. As for an extension, it would be kind of hard. *Maybe* Kingston, but it doesn't seem worth it for a mere 14 Amtrak services (none of which are Acela so you won't get the ample 150mph) and a few MBTA services to Wickford. If you cut it off at Wickford it would render a third of the route with extremely high speeds unusable for Amtrak. With that said, they could add some MBTA branches including the Fairmount Line, Franklin / Foxborough Lines, and Needham Line. But hey if we'd get all that why not send it down to New Haven too?

The TSW 2 version has exactly the same bugs and issues and the lack of AI traffic really breaks the immersion. Should never have had the rush hour tag attached to it.
