CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ed (Ewan McGregor) sees Sandra (Alison Lohman), the love of his life, at the circus and time stops.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Tim Burton directs the fantasy drama Big Fish, based on the book Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions by Southern writer/illustrator Daniel Wallace. Billy Crudup plays William Bloom, a young man who never really knew his dying father, Edward (Albert Finney) outside of the tall tales he told about growing up, making his way, and meeting his mother (played as a young woman by Alison Lohman and in older age by Jessica Lange). During Edward's last days, William and his wife Josephine (Marion Cotillard) hold bedside vigil as the old man recollects elaborate memories of his youth (in which he is played by Ewan McGregor). Still doubting the the legends and folklore, William makes a journey to meet a mysterious woman (Helena Bonham Carter) from whom Edward had bought property. Steve Buscemi and Danny De Vito also star.

I always use this scene as reference to when I first saw my wife. I swear time stopped, and I knew I loved her. She was the most beautiful human being I have ever seen. She was the one person I wanted to be with. That never changed. It will never change. I love her so much, and my life has been absolutely so much better since.

This scene where he first saw his wife is one of my favorite scenes throughout the film. Time stood still for him. That part summarizes what these elaborated stories really are, they're his true stories told from his perspective. When he narrated that time stopped, he was serious because that's what he felt. But when you tell it to others, they think it's fiction. So are his stories facts or fantasies? Is it too much to say they're both true but in a different sense? One is in matters of objective reality while the other is through the lens of a subjective personality. He was an optimist, he saw the world as a river of opportunities. He was willing to keep going to catch every big fish he finds until he became one himself through his life. A movie about metaphors from the point of view of a dreamer.

Danny Elfman did a fantastic job creating the atmosphere with the soundtrack for this scene. I love how his music always sounds like what the night would sound like or something that sparkles.

YES! I was watching this at my house one night many years ago with a few friends & the guy I had my eye on. I think it was the 2nd time I'd seen it but it was his 1st. Both him & I bawled & we ended up cuddling together on the lounge & been together for over 16 yrs now. Occasionally he unashamedly reminds me how this movie just hit him as he doesnt cry in movies usually & how special that night was. Both of us have since lost our fathers so I know the next time I bring myself to watch this, I'll be a wreak 😭💖
I’ve probably seen it about 10 times and it’s made me at least tear up every time. Hell, sometimes I just have to think about it and it makes me tear up.

This is a movie that is so close and dear to me. So positively beautiful and relatable to my relationship with my father. One of those iconic soul touching movies for me. So truly and deeply recommended to anyone with a strained relationship with a mentally Ill or tall telling dad. 😪

Big Fish came out when I was 12. I saw it with my family in a local theater and I remember being completely mesmerized by this scene. I wondered if time really does stop when you meet the love of your life. Nine years later, I met my husband. Now we've been together for ten years, married for four years. Time has gone by yet it doesn't feel like it has. Time really did stop the moment we saw each other.
It is so very true. I saw the love of my life one night out in a busy club full of people yet she stood out and to me was one of the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, nobody else compared or had my attention as she did in that moment…now nearly 3 years on we both love each other dearly. Don’t let this bit of intuition pass as a mere coincidence if you experience it yourself.

I thought the "time stops" feeling they talk about in films wasn't literal until I met him. When I was 16 I saw him after 10 years and I instantly knew he was the one. I tried doing the most to get him for two years,until I realized I cant fight fate. If he's truly for me destiny will find a way. On the meantime, I'll experience the most i can. Maybe one day I'll show him this video to explain what it felt like.

Back to the 1st time i saw him. He was sitting there along with my friends. I never find a guy handsome but with me, he is the one. The one that is beautiful inside and out. Living in a humble and elegant way. Giving love and carings for the other by the smallest actions that not everyone could recognize. But i did, and it hurts that i know we barely meet or text or call and only meet sometimes among friends. I know, he will always care about me, look at me and have a soft spot for me in his heart. I'm still too young and flawed. And life has so much things ahead. Complicated growing-up things. To involve in something serious like love is hard for both this time. But just wanna let him know that I will always be there, for him, at anytime in this life.
