    Here’s the best tip for anyone who witnesses a really bad accident in front of them. If you can safely go beyond the accidents to stop and assist, do so by quite a bit because if the road becomes blocked or shut by emergency services, once your help is no longer required you will be able to leave the scene unhindered. You’re welcome, from an ex Police employee.

      I saved a kid from running into traffic once - and saved an innocent driver from a lifetime of trauma.
      My husband and I were sitting at a busy intersection in Sydney when I noticed a toddler running toward the busy road. I looked back expecting the see a parent not far behind but there was no one. I immediately jumped out of the car and sprinted toward the kid. I got to him as he was running between 2 parked cars on the busy road, and nearly dislocated his shoulder when I yanked him off the road. By the time I got him, he was about to step out from the parked cars - maybe 2 steps from being killed.
      His mum was sitting in the huge yard of a home on the corner talking to a friend. The open gate was at the back end of the property, meaning that she was not paying attention to the kid for at least 3-5 minutes. She only noticed the kid was gone when she heard him screaming because I had hurt his shoulder. She also did not thank me - but I assumed she was in shock.
      The distance to the car's tyre when I got the kid is seared into my memory.

      It's why you should always drive at a speed which allows you to stop in the distance you can see to be clear. The driver was the real hero there doing exactly that, albeit I might not have sounded the horn as it might have frightened the toddler into something even more dangerous.

      @Bootneck777 Voice recordings are permissible as evidence in court. What the hell makes you claim they are not? Also, what is cowardly about it, or have you been in similar circumstances and had something to hide?

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID Рік тому +2

      @Bootneck777 Speaking as the owner of a dashcam, who installed it because he wanted evidence of any incident, just in case, then your rather sweeping generalisation is wide of the mark. Most people I know with dashcams have them for the same reason I do. I've no doubt there are a few exceptions. I also leave all the stats on too, like speed, location and audio as I don't think I have anything to hide.

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID Рік тому +1

      @Bootneck777 Who are you that assumes I don't drive competently (I've driven accident free for 38 years), nor do I text on the phone. I have a dashcam for those others that do just such things and seek to blame others. There are plenty of examples to be found. There of cash for crash events when it's just one word against another.
      If you think that you will never be involved with an accident as you know how to avoid them all, then think again. There are always circumstances that can happen outside your control, or you could be subject to malicious activities. Even if your car is parked up, then it can be hit and modern dashcams often have sentry mode when parked up.

      Agreed. That HGV driver was clearly trying to bully the smaller car into letting them overtake. Or, at the very least, was trying to overtake unnecessarily. As truck drivers, we often have to sit behind slower moving vehicles because an overtake is too risky or would take too long. Even if a car is doing 10-20 under the limit, sometimes. I'd expect, if this footage got back to their TM, they're not working for them anymore.

    Hi all. I WAS THE DRIVER IN CLIP 23. I was the lady. We were hit by a 14 seater mini bus from a Christian Missionary. The 10 children on board weren't wearing seatbelts. I was not 'yakking on the phone'. The missing part of the video was an ex Army guy on the hard shoulder helped us, he'd called the police with my narration. My mum has no hip bones. My door wouldn't open, we were trapped in the car. Before i passed out the emergency services needed to know mums bones, allergies and dialysis situation. Mum was in and out of consciousness with a broken wrist. My knees and ankles were shot too. We were both cut out of the vehicle. The driver had convinced the car infront that i had hit him. The traffic police thought the same until 5 minutes later, motorway cctv called them to confirm it was not my fault. Scary part was only 15ft stretch of motorway was being recorded by cctv that day.
    This went to court 3 times because he appealed stating it was racism from the police officer who he accused of tampering with the motorway recording and my cctv too. Mum has been left with a permanent bend in the arm and ptsd. I was taking her for a surprise break after being house bound for 15 years. Careful driving guys....:)

At 5:19, Mercedes drifted a bit on the approach, but lorry had definitely seen the "red mist" descend and had been right up Mercedes rear end for some time after. Mercedes was in front, and lorry was going to have to do something REALLY dangerous to change that, so there's not much motive for brake checking. It could have been, but there's room for doubt.

      There was clearly some incident between the car and the lorry before the start of the video which has caused both drivers to see red and drive dangerously.

    13:42 where the stranded motorist has not climbed over the barrier to get off the carriageway - they may not be able to do so. In the event of a breakdown, my wife would be able to get out of the car and stand at the side like that, but she would not be able to climb over the concrete barrier (or the Armco that has appeared along most Smart motorways). She is 4'11" and disabled with both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis and simply would not have the strength in her weakened hand and joints to do so. I consider Smart motorways death traps for not only removing the hard-shoulder, but fencing the nearside lane in, giving disabled people nowhere at all to go.

      @@cavhutch Sorry pal. All trucks that drive on UK roads now have to be fitted with wide angled mirrors. If he didn't have these mirrors, he was driving illegally. More likely though, like most truck drivers, he did have the correct mirrors, but chose to indicate and pull out before checking, because it's too much hassle to slow down. The law needs to change, because driving a 30 Tonne + truck without due care and attention is usually fatal. It's not a vehicle, it's a weapon.

    Top Dashcam Tip: If you're involved in a collision and you are not at fault but the at-fault driver is insisting you are and they aren't. DO NOT TELL THEM you have a dashcam. Simply let them make their statement to their insurer and you make yours and submit the footage.
    You will still get paid out/fixed and they will have their policy CANCELLED for INSURANCE FRAUD. It's a criminal conviction and they have to declare it to any new insurer for 5 years, longer if the prospective insurers specifically asks on the application.
    They will be paying through the nose for YEARS for insurance and given the seriousness of the conviction may not be able to continue in their job.

      It's like the toddler clip earlier in the video. If you had not seen the woman get out of the passenger side of the car and only witnessed her rushing over to the kid to pick him up out of the road you might say "she was irresponsible to let her child go into the road like that! She should not have kids!" not knowing it's not her child and she was just helping!

    I was taught the five blinks rule for changing lanes. 1 blink, mirrors, signal. 2 blinks, blind spot check. 3 blinks check forward and behind. 4 blinks check your mirrors again, 5 blinks check your blind spot again and complete your manoeuvre. I have a car with blind spot warning, I still check over my shoulder, it’s a habit! Like opening the car door with my left hand to avoid killing a cyclist. My driving tutor for the advanced stuff was a guy who had driven logistics for the military. He said mirrors are there to be used, they’re not there to replace your brain. Use everything you’ve got, including reflections off buildings, people looking at something you haven’t seen, and sound. I still roll my windows down at difficult junctions because I can hear what I can’t see.
