Yet another silly trend which causes more problems for little/no gain - just like everything being controlled by a screen and auto-brake systems which hit the brakes when going past a parked car. On the arguing with Ford about the range calculations - I would say it would be better to get Tesla to do Fords testing since that seems to be more realistic. Maybe its time for the EPA to move the goalposts like Europe going from NEDC to WLTP?
As an owner of a ‘21 Rav4 Hybrid with ZERO issues with it, I agree. Thanks guys! Also, thanks to the paratroopers who choose to jump out of perfectly good C-17s. Yes, the pilots do know how to land and yes, they’re aware they’re off drop zone target. 😉
lol this is a Ford it well never be better regardless of model year. They have been building gas Mustang's for decades. Yet my 2021 Mustang GT premium was a big lemon. I could live with the cheap plastic interior and glitchy electronics but the 6 speed manual transmission was just garbage! Fortunately I was able to sell it and buy a real car from another manufacturer. It's no wonder Ford stopped building cars...I'll never buy another Ford...EVER! ua-cam.com/video/MRjeVINUPUw/v-deo.html
but they matched their epa estimates as edmunds had to learn from the tesla team to include it's buffer zone for the calculation. now they didn't exceed them like some other car brands, but they definitely aren't lying.
The Ford securicode door keypad is one of the smartest "little" things. I've had it now on my Taurus SHO and two F-150s and it is so useful. I hope they keep it forever.
It’s absolutely awesome! I love it and the keyless Solution that Jaguar off with the wristband watch. More auto maker’s need to offer genuine solutions like these.
Yes I have one in my Mercury Grand Marquis. It's a Wonderful feature I use it all the time. I've always been surprised no other manufacturers have adopted it.
1. Phone as key seems to be consistent IF the Ford Pass app is running, not optimal yeah. 2. 2022 resolved the extra key issue, Ford assumed you'd use the phone as key as the extra key, I agree with you about the frunk release. 3. I wish I had those dividers, some models don't have that. 4. Fixed with updates 5. No sunroof in mine, but I agree this should have sunshade. 6. No issues with range and I have the smaller pack. 7. No issues with the tires 8. Ground clearance is the same as the gas Mustang. Wouldn't mind a higher clearance, but im not planning on going off road with mine. Over all, I really love mine.
I just picked up my Mach-E yesterday. So far, so good. Overall, I am impressed. I appreciate your candor in this video. I think if people are honest, there isn't any car out there that they wouldn't have at least a few gripes about.
@@vroooom i saw reviews on it and the charging speeds were lower than rated, the charger network themselves is 3rd party so some weren't working in the review vs. tesla similar probs can happen but its more consistent b/c its self owned and operated not relying on others. also, the screen and overall controls are faster and quicker, the Mach-E screen is laggy even in 2021
Overwhelmingly the Ford Mach-E gets high marks from the industry. Kudos to Ford for not just "phoning it in" as they could have but actually taking their time to do it right. I wish them the best of luck.
I disagree on following Tesla's way to do their EPA range estimations. The rest of the industry isn't doing that, ask Tesla be more conservative instead.
And why would they? If that makes their numbers look better? Also, at this point in the EV world - 'the rest of the industry' is Tesla. They literally sell more vehicles than all other competitors combined and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.
@@truantray Tesla doesn't game the epa estimates. If you drive the epa cycle, you wil get the epa range. Just like with mpg. They are not for 75mph on the freeway. If you drive 50mph you will get the epa ranges.
Your complaint with the trunk divider is just Fords way to legally get around putting a child safety release in that compartment. The NHTSA sets the size of any closed space like a trunk or frunk at 35″ long x 15″ height x 12″ wide or 89 cm x 38 cm x 30 cm. Anything this size or larger can fit a small child, so it needs to have a safety release to allow them to escape. I think the release is still there but it looks like an electric button and not a mechanical latch, not sure why they did that.
I actually like the more conservative approach to Ford's estimate. I feels more like they are being honest with us about the range and I appreciate that. Besides I know for a fact there are some people out there who raise a huge stink if they do not hit the estimates 85%+ of the time even when they are the type to flog what they drive daily. They will die on that mole hill all day long.
The only reason they are doing that is because if they try to game the system like Tesla they will still end up losing horribly. Which would then look a lot worst than it does now.
I am having second thoughts about the frunk divider. i initially thought it was a terrible idea, but given the generous space in the rear, i think i will keep mine and use it to store things like my portable air compressor, first aid kit, an extra bottle of wiper fluid and other things that tend to fly all over the place in a trunk or hatch,
6:50: I disagree. One of the biggest problems with EV’s and what is putting people away from buying one is the fact that car manufacturers keep announcing range that you can not get on real life driving, What I want is a car manufacture that is true about this numbers so I can make a really informed purchase. So if Ford tells me that range is 250 miles and than, that’s what I get on real life, it makes it a more trustworthy company and, therefore I more willing to give them my money.
@@bob15479 oh man, great call (same issue in my acura in the past). if android, check developer options for BT AVRCP version and see if a different one helps.
@@laloajuria4678 I have a note 9 and my wife has an iPhone 11.both have the problem. Although thinking about it, most of the time it happens when we are at home
Agreed about the glass roof. I've spent enough time with the glass roof in the Model Y to wish for an opaque metal roof instead. I would gladly give up an inch of headroom in exchange for proper insulation and getting the damn sunlight off my face.
Yeah a transition roof would be nice. I used to have a smart for two EV and even that car had a shade I could pull out to cover the underside of the glass roof. I had plenty of issues with that care but the roof was a smart choice.
A on A is the gold standard of auto reviews. Why don't auto manufacturers have you review their models before production to eliminate some of those annoying problems?
Regarding Apple Car Play problem: I had similar issues on my Explorer Platinum 2020. The dealer easily fixed it by installing an update, so now it works perfectly fine
My 2018 Fusion Titanium still frequently kicks me off Android Auto for no explainable reason. Even the dealer couldn't figure out why. Thankfully I have integrated Navi so I just don't bother.
@@dsan2509 It comes with the territory. No matter how thorough you are in designing and testing a product, you're never going to be able to account for all the scenarios that consumers will end up using the product. As was said though, it looks like the typical quirks you'll find in the first model and since the car can be updated OTA, it probably won't require a trip to the dealer to resolve.
FWIW the phone as a key (PAAK) has worked flawlessly every time on our Mach-E, but I do think it should work 100% of the time for all buyers if they're only going to give you only 1 fob. Nobody should ever be stuck in a dark empty parking lot at night trying unsuccessfully to start their car cuz it won't recognize the phone. Ford should at least offer a second fob at no cost if you want one. However, the fact that this car lets you enter AND drive it just with passcodes only (no phone or fob needed) is a fantastic backup that means you'll never be stranded. Regarding the roof, I had an I-Pace previously and live in southern california and have never had any issues with sun or being hot inside due to no shade in that or the Mach-E. They insulate the glass pretty well and it's never bothered us in either car even on the sunniest of days. A retractable shade would be nice but just another thing that would add to the MSRP....there are already aftermarket solutions availabile for those that want them. And when comparing to the I-Pace, yes it has much better ground clearance and more head room but it's literally $20k more expensive and wayyyy less reliable with a terrible infotainment by comparison (even the new Pivi Pro stinks compared to SYNC 4a). Our I-Pace was so unreliable Jaguar bought it back after 6 months. I'm very happy to have the Mach-E for $20k less with much better build quality.
I found on our Model Y that the issue can be the phone rather than the car. If the phone is in deep “sleep”, Bluetooth is also is “sleeping” so the car can’t pick up the phone. Now I turn my phone right side up to get it out of sleep, and it works as the key every time.
@@ng7216 That is a good point about the phone. I usually leave both my iPhone and Android in some sort of medium power mode because of how bad some of the background services like to suck the battery dry.
No heat pump, no sale. Even the Leaf has a heat pump. The Leaf is a pretty nice EV as long as a person doesn't need to fast charge twice in a day (see aircooled battery).
Two comments: 1. The last time I owned a Ford product (1989 Lincoln Continental), it had one of those numbered keypads on the driver's door. The advantage of this was that keys (we had keys then) could be locked inside the car when swimming or jogging, and then we could get back into the car, find the keys, and drive away. Unfortunately, this being a relatively unreliable car, the car would unexplainably forget the keypad entry code from time to time. So I learned not to trust locking my keys inside, just in case the keypad code didn't work when I returned to the car. So much for that being helpful. 2. My Lexus sedan with a panoramic roof has a motorized opaque panel that can be extended inside to insulate against the harsh sun. Why couldn't Ford have supplied such a simple solution in the Mach E?
I've never heard of any paint issues in the Mach-E. I have heard of rare body-panel alignment issues. No creaking. I have *heard* of people complaining of wind-noise at high-speed but I'm wondering if that's real. I only hear moderate wind noise in mine *only* if I'm doing 70+ mph ... no more than I hear in any other car I've driven.
I suspect Ford has a LOT riding on this car. I also think it is going to be a BIG hit! With those 2 things in mind, I am very optimistic that Ford will fix any problems in their control!
I agree with most of your complaints as I’ve experienced the same issues. However seeing as how unreliable and unrealistic my Tesla 3’s range is, I’m glad Ford choose a more real world range expectation. Overall I prefer my Mach E over my Tesla 3, and I’m hoping Ford can resolve the minor connectivity issues with PAAK(phone as a key) and the interface with the Sync 4 screen.
When you do that range comparison vs the model Y, make sure go change up which car is leading. The one following will have the aerodynamic advantage, which extends a surprising distance backwards.
@@mukamuka0 Exactly because if one car is following another and for the same time traveling. The one in the slipstream will have more efficiently traveled so its range would be longer than driving on its own. So a swap of which car is following is needed if they are close to each other during the test.
Mythbusters did tests on this, but they had to be really close (like 10 feet or less) to get a noticeable difference. Just follow 100 feet or more and there would be no difference.
I agree Alex - I do not want a vehicle with a huge glass roof or one of those panoramic sunroofs. The all glass roofs let in too much light and heat, while the panoramic sunroofs are prone to mechanical failure. The regular sized sunroof on my current car gets used a few times a year at night because I can't stand the amount of light it lets in during the daytime (even on an overcast day).
@Beelzebot : that’s a BS cheap shot. The ICE engine problems you’re referring to I assume are some of the ecoboost products-those things are jammed with tech, and other manufacturers using similar tech have similar problems. Their NA engines, like the 2.5 in my hybrid escape, are basically bulletproof. The issues Alex is reporting are just brand new flashy tech which they will obviously sort out. You could argue it was a stupid business decision to unveil all that tech in such a visible car, but they wanted it to attract attention.
First model ALWAYS has issues. At least it looks most of it may be software and the car can be updated OTA so you won't have to take it to the dealer at least.
Other than having a good sun shade the only missing hardware I would like to see added so far is a physical display dim/off button. There are still plenty of road out there that I have to drive through that are not lit up at all where the paint is also worn off completely and sometimes have shear drop offs with no railing and with that much screen on the console it would trash my night vision.
Like they did with the Ford Focus and Festiva DCTs? They built the same crap for 6 years then got out of the car business. I was a Ford owner, I was sick and tired of being on class action suits.
Disagree. The best reviews come 2-3 years after daily driving. Never, ever, buy a new model of any car, especially a Ford and especially a fundamentally new platform. These are all beta cars and suckers who buy them are paying beta testers.
Some of these complaints are subjective, and some are just nit picky. When one of your complaints is that it comes with a divider in the front trunk we can tell you were searching for things to include on the list. At least none of these issues is anything I would consider a deal breaker so I appreciate the video for that.
I had all of the software issues you mentioned regarding the phone key, carplay and buggy software but I got an over the air update and all of it has been fixed. I think it's a great car and it has outperformed my expectations. I bought the 300 mi range version and I'm getting at least 340 miles which is great because Tesla's always get less than the advertised amount.
Marques Brownlee did a pretty good review of this car, the Tesla Model S and an Audi gas car for control. The problem they ran into with the Ford was the charging infrastructure. At one point there were in rural upstate NY and had to drive to Vermont to get the nearest charging station! The Ford continually routed them to chargers that were broken, info that you could find out from the web. So whatever system Ford uses doesn't have up to date info regarding what charges are available (and working).
Being brutally honest is just the Ford way. I can tell you that after 25 years at engineering in Dearborn. The only thing to do is deal with it as we say in michigan. Best wishes. As for computer glitches, they'll get it right eventually. On that issue you are very correct in bring that attention to all. Blessings.
Another complaint is the surprising lack of an electrically controlled tilt/reach steering wheel. The seats, mirrors and infotainment settings are keyed to particular drivers, but you have to manually wrestle the steering wheel for reach and tilt. My wife hates it.
If you are planning to drive them caravan style (in serial), than whichever car is in the lead will run out of juice first because it is reducing wind resistance for the car following behind.
Alex, this is the best complaining video I’ve ever watched .. I truly appreciate honest and constructive feedback .. Just a few things I know you know this by now .. the Mach E select and GT only comes in solid aluminum roof .. no glass, also I think you should do a temperature test because in my model 3 I feel allot more sun heat from the glass roof them in the Mach E, I may also do a video on this .. but yeah it’s not perfect but it’s better than other glass roof keeping out the sun temps .. As for EPA I think The government needs to change how all that is done completely.. it’s all over the place look at the Taycan omg EPA did a number on them .. Alex great 👍 content! More please..
My wife's 3 has had the same issue with the phone. It takes a completely random amount of time to unlock. Sometimes instantly, sometimes 20-30 seconds. Like it rolls a dice and decides how long its going to make you wait this time.
Yep happens occasionally. In my case I bet more than half the time it's my phone's battery saving functions. Usually if I pull out my phone and turn on the screen the door will open. If I get that far I go ahead and just put my phone to the pillar and unlock it with NFC.
According to my brother it is an Iphone issue. His wife's Iphone glitches and works at random on the Model 3, my brothers Samsung Galaxy works every single time without issues.
5.8 to 8.8 inches on the Etron. The best-kept EV secret considering what you get for Model Y money and a 25k discount from Model X. Oh and a full glass roof with a retractable shade too.

Fellow Mach E AWD 88Kwh owner here and I can confirm the inconsistencies with phone as a key function. Also, Apple car play was glitchy at first set up but now it works fine for some reason. I have no issues with the glass roof at all. It looks great and my kids love it too. As far as range, we got as little as 90 miles on a full charge a couple weeks ago during the deep midwest freeze. Approximate temps were single digit highs and negative lows on average. However, now that temps are back to about 50 to 60 degrees here in KC we are averaging about 230 to 240ish miles of range with aggressive driving. I've even seen the car reach 260 out of the advertised 270 range without really trying to achieve it. Really impressed with the car overall and wish we could buy a second in the grabber blue.
@@larryallin7404 The range does move around a bit with really cold weather. It got as low as - 5 in my garage during that 2.5 week cold front. I wasn't too surprised by the loss of range since it was so relentlessly cold and the car is designed to protect the batteries this way. I should also mention that we would always preheat the car in the garage and drive with the heat on pretty high during that period. Once we got a 220v charger installed about a week into that cold front we saw much better range as the temps normalized. I would say it improved to around 150 to 180 miles on average in 20 to 40 degree weather. Today it's 60 degrees here in KC and the car says about 245ish miles of range which is close to fords milage claim. Again to your point, extreme cold will have big impacts on your predicted range and that's something people in really cold places should consider. It doesnt bother us a bit here in the central midwest. We flat out love the car and would love to have a second one. Sorry for the long post.btw
@Nomen Clature I think they do. 2 years ago Ford and Volkswagen announced they would be platform sharing. Ford will build the next Amarok and Volkswagen would produce Ford's first global full electric vehicle. Even though they don't advertise it, I'd say this is that car.
@Nomen Clature yes so does the E-Tron and the Taycan but different wheel base does not mean they are not on a shared architecture or shared battery technology. VW's "MEB" system is modular so it can build any size battery, for any sized vehicle. Ford's Focus, Escape, and Bronco Sport all share a platform and all have different wheel bases. Maybe it's just the battery system and tech.
Thx for the "10 ways to knitpick, about The Mach E".... I especially liked the one where you told FORD, they need to use unrealistic EPA figures, since Tesla does, while the rest of industry disagrees... Nice to know i'm not the only who has a different perspective from you on some issues.... But ofc as always is was nicely detailed, even, when the glitches failed to a present themselves... Looking forward to the Model Y comparison, which is where this channel is at its best.... Since it mostly just based test based facts...
Cheapest MachE is $35k after federal tax credit. Cheapest ModelY is $49k and has no credit. Not sure if Alex is adding some dealer-specific incentive to get to a $16k difference.
Appreciate your honesty in even doing a video like this Alex. It reinforces my person belief to never buy the first model year of anything, even Toyota...so they can work out the inevitable flaws that only show up with day to day use by the consumer.
There's a dollar cost to the inefficiency of the Mach E. apart from the owner consuming more electricity to move it down the road, Ford have had to pay to put that 100 KWh battery into the car. That is $20,000 just in the battery pack. They are probably making a loss on them.
It's weird that you have it this way in the US. I'm shopping for a Mach e here in Europe, and the drivetrain and battery is not connected to the glass roof in any way. The glass roof is an extra equipment, no matter which combination of four drivetrains/batteries you choose. Obviously the prices here start at $57k for the cheapest version with the smaller battery and RWD...
@@backlumchaam3688 with the base model in the USA you get a steel roof non extended range batteries and the base drive train. This is going to be our next car so I’ve been doing a lot of research on the different things in the different models. I want a glass roof AWD and the extended range battery so I have to go up to a premier to get those features.
As someone who works in new product development (not automotive) I usually wait a bit before buying a new anything. Of course that doesn't help Alex, whose job is to test new things. Interestingly though, the phone app, car play, and infotainment should be able to be fixed via software hopefully.
I think the CarPlay issue is an issue when using it wirelessly. I have a wireless CarPlay interface in my Porsche but it rarely actually works wireless. Always works when plugged in however.
It’s the phone, not the car. Apple keeps glitching CarPlay in their software updates. I get much better sound quality on wireless iPhone 6s than on Xs in the current iteration.
I’ve had the phone as key issue with my model 3 since I bought it back in 2019…no updates to fix it from Tesla. I even upgraded my phone and the issue persists
To this day the keypad is one of the best things ever, no idea why more companies haven't adopted it? Jaguar really is the only one that kind of did something in the same vein with the bracelet thing you wear that opens the car.
I think Hyundai’s option is better with a key sliding out from the key fob incase the phone is dead. Keypad is just drawing attention and will make some try to guess the right code
The Apple car play thing is a definitely a problem. Another problem we ran into was that the SiriusXM stopped working in the middle of a drive. We called SiriusXM and they said it wasn’t a problem with them. The next day we get in the car and the Sirius is back. I think the software is just a little touchy right now
Have to disagree with your take on the ‘play the game everyone is playing’. Ford is in a way playing the game with a different strategy: be realistic and aim for customer satisfaction. It’s the EPA that needs to sort their system out instead of giving manufacturers a choice in what test they run.
I went to a dealership yesterday in Norway and i saw the Key and it had a button to open the Frunk.. This seems to only be missing in Markets that have the Panic button.
should we add moose test failure as 11th? Also, I feel like weight and charging speed is more relevant than actual battery pack size. for daily any size will do, on the road efficiency and speed of charging (ionic 5) is more relevant
I think 16000 different will be unfair, when you compare similar equiped which you used to say on other video, mach e premium is really the similar equiped to model y, at 230 miles it is 47000, after 7500 tax rebate, it is 39500. And tesla model y stand range which you can still order one on tesla website today is 39990(i ordered one this week). I know they are discontinue this standard range for now, but i still like people know they are similar priced at this moment.
I think the legislative reason you’re referring to about the frunk divider is that Ford has to either divide the space up or put an emergency release latch on the inside due to its dimensions.
I own a Mach-e first edition and my major complaint is the software for various features. I have yet to test the smart key with my phone because it's having trouble integrating, says my device (galaxy note20 ultra 5g) isn't compatible. My android auto took a while to connect at first. Once connected it'll automatically connect once km back to my vehicle. There was only one time that got confused with android auto and trying to switch to my satellite radio. I also noticed that the back/forward play button don't work with my SoundCloud app, but does with Napster app. Again, all while connected to android auto. Via Bluetooth, zero problems. As far as everything else including charging my vehicle I have no problems. Although I am still trying to figure out how to tie my payment to my vehicle so when I connect via electrify America it'll automatically detect my car and payment. So overall the software still needs plenty of work.
Fair complaints. The narrow tires don't bother me at all and they make for a great hwy ride. My X3 had 255s and would follow every crack on the road which made for exhausting road trips. I don't find the glass roof letting an any SoCal sun or heat.
Thanks for this and if those are the only things wrong that is a great thing. Also doesn't the mach-e's front trunk have an emergency release the green square? Also, I think Ford being honest about the range is a great thing and an honest selling point over tesla. Tesla's management is really the worst thing about their cars.
Really enjoy your videos, they have a lot of good information. Reviews from people like yourself helped me to decide to get the Kia Niro EV. On this video I disagree that Ford needs to change how they calculate their range. You said they need to change it to match everyone else and then you said like Tesla. In my opinion Tesla is the odd one out. My Niro EV has en EPA estimated range of 239 miles but real world is actually 270 to 280. They under promised and over delivered. Tesla over promises and under delivers and they are the one that needs to change. Thanks again for all of the videos you do.
I have rwd extended range. The range in the winter in NY is about half of epa advertised range which I believe is 305. I was getting 305 in summer. I car feels solid. The ride somewhat firm due to weight of automobile. I phone as a key is finicky as mentioned in video. I enjoy riding the car which has very good acceleration. If you charge at public station you will need to unplug at 80% state of charge because the rate of charge drops off significantly from 80 to 100%. I only charge to 90% for battery maintenance reasons. The interior is comfortable and handling excellent. I love one pedal driving.
Drove the steel roof. There was a substantial loss in headroom and it was very claustrophobic. Great range though. Excellent battery capacity per dollar. Will almost certainly go further than Model Y in fair weather.
@@frumpd63 We don't really know the economics of the Mach E as far as if it is actually profitable. Odds are that it is not, but Ford figures it will be in the future or the technology can migrate to other vehicles. It cost at least a Billion to develop a new car, probably a bit more. It will be years before Ford sees any ROI on the Mach E, especially at current sales volumes. Most legacy manufacturers are playing the long game, letting their ICE product lines fund their EV transitions. So, the Mach E will get better and more efficient over time and may turn a profit eventually. But that scenario is still years away.
I have only heard of issues with the tech. Things dropping connection, compatibility issues, software glitches. Hopefully Ford fixes this quickly but it seems rushed as is. The forums haven't offered a solution to these issues yet sadly.
Ford's already planning to switch from the QNX based system they're debuting with this and the F150 and the Bronco, to a Google Auto based system for '24 models. So that raises a theory that the system is a misstep for them. Hopefully they can update the system to be better in the meantime though.
I have had my First Edition now for 2 weeks and have experienced every little FordPass and key problems which were mentioned. One thing that seems to help is ensuring your Bluetooth is connected before approaching the vehicle. But there certainly are gremlins anyway.?Especially when walking away from the vehicle. You cannot assume or trust that the car will lock itself. A new one I experienced yesterday was when I had a rear seat passenger and the middle seat seatbelt warning would not go off until I shut the car off and turned it back on. Am going to try just latching that belt in the future and see if it stays off.
I would rather few tesla adhere there EPA rating to how most of the auto manufactures do it, more realistically lately, than have everyone start playing a game and the consumer loses out (like the old EPA ratings used to be). My niro ev is pretty much right on the EPA rating on average
I'm no fan of Tesla.... but it's EPA fault (not Tesla) for allowing, so many different ways to calculate the figures... just look at how Porshe electing to reduce its range... www.edmunds.com/car-news/electric-car-range-and-consumption-epa-vs-edmunds.html
@@cherch tesla "games" the estimates by actually performing all the EPA suggested testing. Ford skipped many of those and by doing so are obligated to use a "coefficient" to multiply with the standard required tests results. Ford should simply do the whole battery of test so that cars can better be compared between themselves. The WLTP range rating is even more generous than the EPA in Europe, but it's not an issue because manufacturers have to do all the required testing, not just a subset of all tests and everyone is happy.
Alex, The only compaint I agree with is the glass roof. With that said I test drove all of the other EV,and I like the Mustang the most. bought one. getting better range than EPA. Why not ask Tesla to be honest about their calculations instead of asking Ford to fudge theirs?
Probably because Tesla is the leader and thus the reviewer is used to that standard but I agree. Tesla needs to stop.
The very reason car reviewers annoy me. That don’t really know about the industry or cars. They know gimmick things
Why not ask the EPA to produce a more strict guideline for calculating EPA range? Don't have the player, hate the game.
but they matched their epa estimates as edmunds had to learn from the tesla team to include it's buffer zone for the calculation. now they didn't exceed them like some other car brands, but they definitely aren't lying.
Thank you!
The Ford securicode door keypad is one of the smartest "little" things. I've had it now on my Taurus SHO and two F-150s and it is so useful. I hope they keep it forever.
It’s brilliant, and Ford’s been doing it since the early ‘80’s-kinda shocking it gets so little press.
It’s absolutely awesome! I love it and the keyless Solution that Jaguar off with the wristband watch. More auto maker’s need to offer genuine solutions like these.

Me too!
Yeah, my 85 maxima had it too.
1. Phone as key seems to be consistent IF the Ford Pass app is running, not optimal yeah.
2. 2022 resolved the extra key issue, Ford assumed you'd use the phone as key as the extra key, I agree with you about the frunk release.

Overwhelmingly the Ford Mach-E gets high marks from the industry. Kudos to Ford for not just "phoning it in" as they could have but actually taking their time to do it right. I wish them the best of luck.
Life is never a waste
I disagree on following Tesla's way to do their EPA range estimations. The rest of the industry isn't doing that, ask Tesla be more conservative instead.
He is suggesting Ford game the EPA estimates because Tesla games the EPA estimates.
And why would they? If that makes their numbers look better?
Also, at this point in the EV world - 'the rest of the industry' is Tesla. They literally sell more vehicles than all other competitors combined and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.
you forget that ford is actually the little guy in the EV space.
I agree. Tesla’s number is very optimistic, GM’s 259mi range is surprisingly spot on so long as you’re obviously not flooring it.
Totally disagree about “playing the game”. Being honest and giving the customer more than they expected puts Ford above the competition.
Ford had been sued for their over estimated mileage estimates in the past.

@@toolrulz8005 you must be in 5th grade, right
The only reason they are doing that is because if they try to game the system like Tesla they will still end up losing horribly. Which would then look a lot worst than it does now.
I am having second thoughts about the frunk divider. i initially thought it was a terrible idea, but given the generous space in the rear, i think i will keep mine and use it to store things like my portable air compressor, first aid kit, an extra bottle of wiper fluid and other things that tend to fly all over the place in a trunk or hatch,
Yeah, it just keeps your stuff from rolling around. Unless I go on vacation or something I would probably keep it too.
Yes. The better the range estimate the less range anxiety, the more acceptance.

Agreed about the glass roof. I've spent enough time with the glass roof in the Model Y to wish for an opaque metal roof instead. I would gladly give up an inch of headroom in exchange for proper insulation and getting the damn sunlight off my face.

Two comments:
The question is will Ford listen and do something about the issues. What about body panel alignment, paint issues, creaking and wind noise?
Doubtful
All of those things are OK and better than Tesla
Or swap between leaders.
That's exactly what the original comment said. LoL
It's range comparison not time. So, just start drive both car 5 mins apart from each other. No confusing swap need.
It would be nice to see a video that compares the prices, sizes, and major specs of all of the 5 door EV's available in America these days.
Much like non-EV cars, they fall into different categories.
All cars go through teething problems, I hope they listen to the consumers and fix these issues.
@Beelzebot So, just like Tesla then? Let the owner work through the beta software and apply constant OTA updates to fix things?

Some of these complaints are subjective, and some are just nit picky.
Blessings.

You lost 2/3 of range in cold weather. Wow that has to be the worst I have heard of.
Good old half baked buggy software, looks like ID.4 has its share of bugs too. (see Engineering Explained).
Id like to see a minimalist EV.
The ID.4 and the Mach-E are platform sisters. I prefer the Mustang.

There's a dollar cost to the inefficiency of the Mach E. apart from the owner consuming more electricity to move it down the road, Ford have had to pay to put that 100 KWh battery into the car. That is $20,000 just in the battery pack. They are probably making a loss on them.

Nissan did it back in the 90’s on the Maximas. Really great feature. So glad Ford still does it.
I agree! I owned/still own several FoMoCo vehicles and the key pad is an OUTSTANDING, versatile convenience!!
Regarding the glass roof, that is the chief reason why I booked VW ID.4. It provides an automatic sliding screen.

should we add moose test failure as 11th?
It has an emergency release
Why don’t manufacturers consult with you? You certainly have a gift of objectivity and usability.
greed
Looks great but I couldn't get over his small it is inside. Especially rear trunk area.
Thanks for this and if those are the only things wrong that is a great thing. Also doesn't the mach-e's front trunk have an emergency release the green square? Also, I think Ford being honest about the range is a great thing and an honest selling point over tesla. Tesla's management is really the worst thing about their cars.
Not having a sunshade would drive me nuts, not even for the light but for its temperature and sound insulation value.
For the sun issue on the glass roof can you place a nano ceramic tint on it or does the preexisting tint cause problems with this?
Hey, those are not too bad so far.
I appreciate that you're the tester here. Never but the first year folks.
Drove the steel roof. There was a substantial loss in headroom and it was very claustrophobic. Great range though. Excellent battery capacity per dollar. Will almost certainly go further than Model Y in fair weather.
The battery in the Mach E is 30% larger, the fact it struggles to match a Model Y range shows just how inefficient it is.
@@redbaron6805 I own a Model Y so I hear you. I just think the fact that Ford was able to provide such a big battery for the money is impressive.
Great review! Ford lost me at no heat pump for the winters I get here.
Upcoming Range test will be much appreciated.
Agreed. And travel the same route. Make sure you use the Mach E Extended range.
You a catch... My dealer told me you can't yet buy an extra key! Setup your phone immediately and don't lose your key! Crazy
I'm glad to hear solid roof available, hopefully the bugs can get worked out while the tax credits are still available.
You can disable the "rear seat passenger warning" in the settings menu
If Ford would make a model with AWD and over 300mi of range I'd be sold.
Isn't that the premium model? Or it may be 270
They do make a model like that. I am buying one.
They do. The California Route 1 trim level has 305 miles of range and is AWD.
@7:03 Mach-E does not have a Heat pump?? is this correct? how then does the car maintain the health of the battery?
They need to get these software problems worked out soon or it’s going to sink the truck.
Alex, The only compaint I agree with is the glass roof. With that said I test drove all of the other EV,and I like the Mustang the most.
bought one. getting better range than EPA. One peddle drive is the best. As far as the Frunk. You can remove the plastic easily with the new twist screws. Franky, I took the separator out.
I have the GT model. Ordered 235/19 Mich/Latitude tires. Oh my so much better, griper etc.
This is why i waited... gonna wait a few more years till they get all the issues looked over a fixed and then I’ll be purchasing 🤠
LMAO. You just bought a 20 year old truck. I'm sure you're in a position to buy a $60K dollar EV. now or in a couple years.
@@cwqrpportable well considering i work at a ford plant and i get A plan discount I probably could afford it, but why would i do that at 19 years old? Stop hatin.
Can you set a phone AND a code/password to unlock and start the car ?
They could've offered a solar roof like ioniq 5
