Greubel Forsey: Hand-finishing, Mechanical Complexity, and Precision with Stephen Forsey

- The human capital required to achieve Greubel Forsey’s level of hand-finishing, mechanical complexity, and precision translates to approximately 100 people making 100 watches per year. Greubel Forsey was founded in 2004 by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey who sought to reawaken and practice hand-finishing techniques to an almost unparalleled level while also innovating on the technical side. They refused the ‘conclusion’ from while they were students of watchmaking that everything had been invented.
Fast forward 15 years, and in this conversation with Tim, Stephen Forsey recalls some of their most daring innovations and resultant collections, including the Invention Pieces, Quadruple Tourbillon, GMT, and the Hand Made 1. Upon the occasion of Dubai Watch Week, Stephen sat with the Hand Made 1 in hand as he detailed the extraordinary 6,000 hours work that goes into this timepiece, of which 95% is made using only hand-operated tools.

These interviews are some extremely good material
valebliz totally agree, such good content here
Glad Tim is getting the big boy interviews🙌
Not really a surprise given he works for a big boy company
Tim, your interviews are some of the best in the business - Thoroughly enjoying these inspiring insights into the people behind these great brands.
Wow Tim,, you get some great interviews! The fact that these people grant you their time and information means they obviously view your interest and brains thus view you more than a Salesman, he is like a top notch Heart Surgeon of watches!!! In 2002 I had open heart surgery myself, a 4X bypass and I keep in touch maybe 1-2 times a year with the Surgeon who saved my life, thank GOD for people at that intelligence level, the same can be said for top notch watch designs, if it wasn't for them breaking boundaries many watches and complications simply wouldn't exist
Tim doesn't want anyone to think of him as a salesman but rather an unbiased watch reviewer.
@@richardr2555 That's why i said MORE. Tim is very intelligent and focuses on watches as his subject, i really enjoy his reviews and interviews. I don't have the $$$$$ to afford some of the watches he displays for sale on WATCHBOX, etc. but not really into chronographs and ultra finished watches anyway though it would be nice to own a beautiful Glashutte to view the amazing design, detail and finishing if i had the $$$$.
I have a nice assortment of dive watches and had some nice Corum limited edition watches which now i wish i had kept. VERY easy to spend a small fortune on watches
I truly love these interviews of watch makers and watch legends. I click instantly when I see an interviews.
The interviews are brilliant Tim. Had the pleasure of meeting Stephen in London to see the handmade in the flesh. Absolutely insane. Some of the black polished surfaces defy logic.
I like this kind of intreviews with watch makers, great job Tim
Watchmaking = Art + Science + Mechanics.
Spot on Mr. Forsey!
Great interview Tim!!
Best,
Amintas
Absolutely amazing watches! And Stephen Forsey is one of the most briliant and articulate individuals in the industry.
An intriguing and humble man. Several big-name companies could learn from Forsey and his values. Thanx Mosso and Crew.
That company is a treasure for the watchindustry
Steven Forsey looks like a villain in a Bond movie.
I had a beer 🍺 with this guy at Baselworld, he’s a really nice chap.
Good job on the interviews. Keep 'em coming.
Best interviewer in the bizzzzz. Another great one Tim!
Excellent series, can’t believe I missed this one! Greubel Forsey is what horological dreams are made of and the people behind seem so nice too
More heavy hitters joining in the show. Love their latest releases, the hand made 1, and the sport GMT
Wonderful interview Tim. What a great insight to a ultra hi-end micro brand. Please keep theses interview coming. All the best sir. Stay safe and warm.
Great interview. I learned a lot here. Great job as always Tim .
Sorry Tim. This interview felt more like an infomercial. 3 for 4 gets you in the Hall of Fame. Keep swinging cuz I’ll always be watching 🤘
Loving these interviews.
Amazing interview, I find it fascinating how much time is spent re-inventing dated tech and the techniques involved, certainly this step back should be in more aspects of our lives! Certainly a romantic notion and maybe thats why my cars still have manual transmissions!
@@the1916companywatchreviews You should, for a while my daily was an auto and I started to think it was convenient (Live on LI NY so traffic can be crazy) until I switched back and realized how much I really missed being engaged. I actually drive better as well as I am less bored and more involved. Will be interested to see what you choose when the time comes!
Outstanding as always....
Amazing, as always!
Fantastic.
Thanks Tim.
Love it. Thank you.
On another front, this studio backdrop (or something similar) is what you need for “watches tonight”. The new set is an improvement, but you deserve better. Much, much better.😉
The best of the best, GF ❤️
FP Journe next?
How many of these do you have?
Really interesting video, he talks like an older version of TGV. As a fellow Brit I can’t place his accent to location.
Fascinating video. Thanks.
You could have taken your sunglasses off your head too...
Thanks god he is not an older tgv...
Those tall chairs look uncomfortable. Great video however!
Your content is superb, I love everything about the channel....but I CANT see past the sunglasses on the head!! Why? Just why??? You're not Liam Gallagher!!! You talk about watches!!!!
I'm sorry but why does he have sunglasses on his head. Not a great look!
It's kind of Tim's signature thing. Think of it as his "brand identity".
Watchmaking = Art + Science + Mechanics.
Spot on Mr. Forsey!
Great interview Tim!!
Best,
